5/5 - Our Favorite Dog Park!…read more We've been bringing our GSP here 4-5 days a week for nearly a year, and 95% of the time it's a fantastic experience. There's a strong community of regulars, and most dog owners are responsible and attentive. You'll find a rhythm to the park: the 9am crew, the noon "puppy hour," and a lively 5pm group (avoid this time if your dog prefers a mellower vibe). In summer, there's water available and people often bring kiddie pools. The park is donation-based, so consider bringing your own water for your pup (and others!), just in case. As with any public space, you'll occasionally run into an untrained or aggressive dog--usually brought by someone new to dog parks. In the past year, I've only seen two serious incidents. In one case, a dog attacked another and was subsequently banned by the city. In another, a dog aggressively "resource guarded" its favorite best friend dog at the park, and attacked any other dog who wanted to play with his best friend. It was handled by the community. Incidents like these are rare but worth being aware of. Personally, I stay vigilant. I screen every new dog my pup meets and carry a pet corrector spray and small foghorn, just in case. I never assume others are as proactive, so I ask questions and stay alert. It's every owner's responsibility to manage their dog to ensure everyone's safety--that's how public spaces like this thrive. Overall, Starr Farm is hands-down the best dog park around. The positive experiences far outweigh the negative, and we've made great connections. There's even a "Friends of Starr Farm Dog Park" Facebook group, which has grown to include social outings for dog owners. My dog does well here because she's highly trained, socially savvy, and prefers fetch over pack play. If something seems off--like a checked-out owner or a dog with concerning behavior--I create distance or leave. There's also a smaller fenced-in area for shy, small, or young dogs right beside the larger fenced in area FYI. It shares the same parking lot and it's gated entrance is on the left side (when you park). A few asks to keep this space safe: - If your dog resource guards other dogs, please don't bring them here. If they resource guard high value "toys" or other dogs balls, please be aware of this while at the park and manage the situation (like don't bring it's favorite toy) to avoid creating triggers for aggression. - If your dog isn't up-to-date on vaccines or parasite prevention, please stay home. - If your dog is aggressive or attacks other dogs, this is not the place--try a private "Sniff Spot" rental instead. Community spaces only stay safe and welcoming if we protect them. This park is a gem because people genuinely care. Let's keep it that way!

Extremely friendly people and dogs all over the place, everyone seemed to know each other and the name of the accompanying dog. It had a great community feel, it really made me wish I had a dog! I'd come here every week. Maybe I'll steal my mom's dog for the day! There is a large section of the park that is off leach and you can go down by the river for the dogs to swim. We didn't go down to the river, but saw numerous wet, happy dogs coming from that directions. There are lots of picnic tables and benches to stop and enjoy the mountains, grass, ponds, breed spotting and people watching. I'm not sure if the address goes directly to the park, but here are some directions from the website: "Mills Riverside Park is located directly off of Vermont Route 15 in the Town of Jericho. Driving North/East on Route 15, just before entering Underhill Flats, you will see the entrance to the park on your right." You can't miss it! Check it out and bring your dog if you can!

There is a corner in the back reserved for the equipment the volunteers use to turn it into mulch and there was really no smell in that area at all! They have a water access point located within the large dog park. The small dog park has a separate entrance which was blocked by the snow. What is nice is that there is also an entrance between the large and small dog parks, which can be helpful for those small or reactive dogs who have settled down in the small dog park and want to try joining the large dog park. There is also a separate gate in the large dog park which opens to the woods on the back which border on the river. In warmer months, dogs can go swimming or wading in the river. There is a shelter with two picnic benches and a library book box within in the large dog park. The dog park is located at the end of a side road (River Road) from the main road (Route 2) surrounded by the woods near a river.

My friend Vee has brought her dog Hazel up to Middlebury because we wanted to try taking care of her for a semester before we graduate. We needed a way for her to get her exercise in and in a large space so she can run free. Unfortunately, we live on a college campus and Hazel is not allowed to be off leash anytime except in Vee's room. Luckily we found this dog park that is within walking distance of the school. It's a bit of a hassle walking in the snow though, especially once temperatures drop below freezing. We were lucky to come on a few days when other people brought their dogs too. It's always nice to meet new people and new dogs. I hear 3PM is prime time for doggy playtime. The dog park has places to sit, balls to throw, and ball throwers in case you're like me and have no throwing strength. There's two sections: puppies and dogs. There are rules in place too, so make sure you follow the rules! Come! Hazel needs new dog friends!

I didn't take the time to read the reviews that explained you must park at the school to get to it. It is a very nice and well maintained park. It has a small and a big dog side. Very nice fence but a small dog can possibly get through the main gate so if your dog is smaller than 15 pounds keep an eye on them. There is a picnic table that is covered and uncovered on both sides which is very nice. On a Thursday morning we are the only ones here. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Walking through the chapel and seeing the countless tributes, photos, notes, and memories left behind by pet owners is both moving and inspiring. It is a powerful reminder of how deeply animals touch our lives and how much they are loved. Whether you are grieving a beloved pet, celebrating the memory of one, or simply love animals, this is a place that speaks to the heart. There is a sense of peace, compassion, and connection here that is difficult to put into words. I left feeling grateful, encouraged, and a heart full of so much love.

If you are a dog lover and/or dog owner, this is a place for you. First, you can bring your dog(s), on a leash or without, and let them run free (except in the gift shop... there, they must be on a leash)... but outside where the air is so fresh, the terrain is beyond beautiful, they can run around to their hearts' content. In addition to the breathtaking grounds, there is also an exceptional gift shop filled with all kinds of things from clothing to furniture and everything in between... all about dogs and all designed by Stephen Huneck, the creator and owner of Dog Mountain. In addition to this great gift shop is a Dog Chapel, also created by Mr. Huneck. It is a very beautiful, spiritual homage to dogs... a place where people of all faiths and walks of life can gather to reflect on the love of their dog(s)... living or departed. When I say there were THOUSANDS of post-it notes and pictures of dogs, I think I may be way off... maybe MILLIONS, plastered on all of the walls of the interior of the chapel. Truly amazing and inspiring. I felt bad because I didn't realize we could bring our own photos to affix, but maybe if we ever return, I certainly will bring some. I did, however, write a message to our dearly departed doggies in a big notebook. I couldn't help it, but I cried buckets while there. It's okay cuz I wasn't alone, to be sure. It is DEEPLY moving, and while it was very sad for us, it is also very uplifting, too, because it's a place to honor your loving dog(s). I heartily encourage you to visit whether you live locally in St. Johnsbury, in the State of Vermont, on the east coast, or from wherever you reside, if you are a dog lover, you need to go !! Such an amazing place, and one we will NEVER FORGET.
