Watchman campground. Absolutely beautiful. Very limited shade. Crowded but never noisy. Extremely clean. Cleanest bathrooms of any national park I have been to. No showers. However pay showers within walking distant to campsite site. Helpful Rangers. We were at C loop site 25---no shade. Great for car camping with kids. read more

We got luck and were able to reserve the last 2 nights in a row 2 months prior our trip here. The weather was great in mid April, highs of mid 70's.They have electric onsite and you fill up with water and dump station when you enter. You can't beat the views. We were able to have a campfire at night. Love walking to the enjoy the river just a few feet away from our campsite. read more

We stayed at this campground in loop B in a trailer in June. It was a very well kept campground, bathrooms flush and nice. The virgin river is a short walk which helped us cool down. It was hot 101 degrees during the day, but other than that it was nice. We had some shade. Saw a lot of deer too. read more

Zion is an AWESOME place, the Watchman campground is one the best in the west for both tent and RV camping. Next to the campground is a lazy river, the sites are far apart so that you are not camping on top of each other like the sites in Cali. The Narrows is probably the most scenic hike and climb I have been on. Not bad during the week, but its a zoo on the weekends... This place deserves 10 Stars!!!! Must see National Park!!! read more

Sweet location for a sweet U.S. National Park. The park is extremely well maintained. The bathrooms are old and do not have showers or hot water. You have to go into Springdale to get hot showers and it's $5/person for a shower. The campground is set right at the base of Zion and the camp sites are very spacious. We had spot A8 and we had foliage between all our neighbors, so it was awesome. I'll definitely be going back to Zion and Watchman campground. read more

One of the best national park campgrounds we have stayed in, we love this place. We stay in loop A, so we can walk into the visitor center and bus area and also a short walk into the market and town.. This loop is also close to the river which is bliss on a hot day and good even on a cool March day! Facilities are great, all sites on Loop A are power sites which is great even if you chose to pitch a tent as there is no generator noise. Stayed here twice already and will be back. read more

The 2nd campground after our stay at the Yellowstone. The weather in the summers is perfect for night camping. The warm windy weather and star gazing gets back some childhood memories. The campgrounds are spacious and people around stay up quite late till mid-night compared to the campgrounds at Yellowstone, where after 10 pm you have quite hours. The soil is a bit hard here, so there could be some hassle to put up your tent. I would go hear again! read more

Really great campground. Love the river going by, it lends atmosphere and dampens the noise from other campers (which was pretty quiet to begin with). Beautiful sunset views of The Watchman, most well-kept bathrooms of any campground I've ever stayed at and access to a very well-stocked store and restaurant (with a beer garden!). Deer come in to graze and doves coo in the morning and the evening. Highly recommend this campsite to anyone who wants to experience Zion. It would be great if it had showers, but I understand why they cannot have them there. You can however go to the Narrows Outfitters shop just across the river and shower there. read more

My fiancé and I stayed at Watchman Campground in C004 this past weekend for Columbus day weekend. It was my first camping experience EVER, so I was a little worried. But from start to finish, it was the BEST first camping experience ever. The views were beautiful, the size of the campground was perfect, the shade was amazing, we woke up to beautiful deer around the campground every morning, and there were great restroom facilities. I will warn you though, the wind was pretty aggressive at night. We had a great time all around and would definitely recommend staying here!! read more

Stunning location and lovely campground. Stayed in site D-22, which was nice, but unfortunately on Saturday evening too close to the group area. They were very noisy but did quiet at 10 pm. Bathroom area has 3 womens stalls and 2 sinks and was always crowded, but clean. Utility sink for dishes provided, also can refill water there. No showers, walk less than 10 minutes or drive right outside park to Zion Outfitters, showers there very nice cost $4 for 5 minutes, separate mens and womens. They dispense a token with a credit card. Reservations 6 months in advance go fast. Nearby South Campground is first come first served, get there early in season. Read other reviews complaining about shade. Our site had ample shade, and we were there in mid-May so weather was pretty perfect: 50's to low 80's, patchy clouds, a little wind. read more

Loved this campground. Only downfall: no showers and the bathrooms were not clean while we were there. People for the most part were good about quiet hours which was nice since sites are fairly close together. Loved our stay and that we were able to walk everywhere. read more

In looking at my trip photos for Zion it occurs to my that my campsite ratings could be easily determined by the number of photos I take of a campsite. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon site that will likely forever be one of my favorites - literally hundreds of photos..... Zion - a grand total of 7! To say the least I didn't enjoy this campground at all..... but it serves it's purpose. It is not unlike the cheap hotel that you pick just to get you close to the attraction you are wanting to visit - you don't spend much time in the room (campsite) at a place like this, so there you go. The main reason we chose to stay at an official campground here was because private vehicles are not allowed on the main park road and you can access the shuttle with a short walk from the campground. It saved us from having to find parking for our larger than norm vehicle. The campground itself is basic.... sites are close together, dusty, no privacy. There are 176 sites in 6 loops. Bathrooms were clean. If you are in normal shape it is an easy walk to town for dinner.... or ice cream on a hot day. We had our bikes as well so we rode those around town. We were in Loop B site #009. read more

you'll either really like or dislike the campground depending on where you stay. watchman is the closest campground to zion's entrance and zion's national park visitor center. this is great because you can get to the shuttle station easily. note- zion no longer allows personal cars on its roads to its hikes. shuttles are now being used. they arrive quickly.. less than 5-10min apart. there are 3 campgrounds within this area -loop a,b,c. they do not have shower stations but they do have clean bathrooms and a spigot right outside the bathroom. bathrooms are lit and has a mirror (er.. if you care). no hot water and toilets are sit down flush toilets... smancy stuff (haha, i'm use to porta-potties at camps). loop a it gets all the traffic from the visitor center & entrance. i'd try to avoid staying near there if possible. loop b is pretty good. at the outer edge of the loop (b40's) ... there is a running river. you'll either really like it because you have a little private beach or hate it cuz it's quite loud when you're trying to sleep and people will walk by your campsite to get to the river. we stayed at b51 which was directly across the river so we didn't experience the foot traffic. each site comes equipped with a power outlet, campfire site and bench. i have no idea about loop c. hehe didn't go there. ;D campsite reservations are $16 and you can reserve online at http://www.recreation.gov/ *** look on the map online to see where you'll be staying, it's fairly detailed. also reserve online soon. we happened to be lucky and got the last possible spot open for a weekday! it is very very popular... i didn't see any construction going on.. must be done by now? read more

Stayed here recently on a visit to Zion National Park. Pros: Right inside park, next to Visitor Center, convenient to shuttles, great views of the Watchman Cons: Lack of privacy, sites pretty close together, lack of rules enforcement*, can get hot! *When we were there several group sites were rowdy well in to the night. We weren't even close to them and they were loud. Feel bad for people right next to them. read more

Great location. Brand new bathrooms that are perfectly clean and maintained. No showers - but you can go into town for showers if you need. Easy walk to the Visitor Center and the shuttle system that takes you into Springdale or deeper into the park itself. We didn't need to use our vehicle at all during our stay. Spent three different nights at this location - in three different spots. Each was in great shape. As mentioned - not too many spots with great shade - but we were there in an RV and all we needed was a pretty place with a plug :). The views from the campsite are spectacular. We recommend hiking the Narrows from the bottom up and also the Angel's Landing hike. Amazing. Watchman Campground was one stop of many my husband and I made on our two week RV trip out west last year. We couldn't have asked for a better campground or area! There is, to my knowledge, two other campgrounds... one of which is inside the Zion National Park (also at the South entrance where we were) and the other is on the complete other side of it (about 45 mins from the south entrance) and has only 6 sites. It's free, but from what I understand, it's mainly for bikers or hikers to crash for the night and move on. We happened to be under a couple of huge trees that were absolutely beautiful. Shady enough to keep our rig cool during the day, but open enough at night to see the beautiful sunset and open sky. Right at dusk, you can see all the bats flying around in the treetops! Trust me, it's beautiful! They keep the bugs to a minimum (if that's possible). Be careful when booking under foliage though. Certain times of the year (mainly spring) are really bad for caterpillars. They have huge cocoons and they are everywhere! Then they turn to moths, so even after the cocoons are done, there are thousands of moths all over the place. We got there right as the cocoons were beginning to appear, so we didn't have much issue. But we have heard that they can become a real problem. Also the cottonwood tree's shed everywhere around that time of year. So prepare to live WITH nature, whether you are tent camping or RV camping! Our biggest issue was the ants. They were horrible! But first thing in the morning they were pretty much gone and after a certain time at night, they would just leave. We never did get bitten, but they were quite a sight! What else was quite a sight? The deer! They are so beautiful and they simply walk through the area like no one ever put a campground there! I walked to the bathhouse in the middle of the night, and when I walked back out my eyes were still adjusting to the darkness. I looked up and was literally one foot away from a huge doe! She looked at me and I looked at her... I put my hand over my mouth and in a flash she was just gone! It was AMAZING! I have video of three deer standing next to a family who were eating at their campsite. They just stood there and watched them eat like it was an everyday thing. As amazing as it was though, always be respectful of nature and animals! Do not feed them and realize that although they are probably a lot more used to us than they should be, they are wild and can hurt us or themselves if threatened. Keeping that in mind, I was in heaven seeing them so close! The sunsets were amazing over that huge cliff that's right beside the campground. The reds, purples and oranges of the cliff itself were spectacular! The campground is walking distance to the little shop and museum at the South Entrance, which is also where you can catch the bus into the park itself. They do not allow vehicles of any kind inside the park anymore, so you'll be taking the bus to every stop. We hiked every easy trail and a couple of the easy ones that turned to medium ones. The day before we left, we went through The Narrows. We got as far as the first slot canyon, made our way a couple miles in and then turned back. WOW! Be prepared, but if you do it, you'll never regret it! It was a hike I am very proud to say I accomplished and took some brilliant photos of! If you have the stamina, don't skip that one! Also, if you have the time or need a day to relax after hiking, head into the little town right outside the park. There are so many great people there. People who live there, people who just love to visit, photographaers, climbers, hikers, campers, old and young - it was so wonderful meeting so many different people in such a small area. And yet it was relaxing and not rushed or crowded. Cute shops too! It was a perfect trip! read more

My husband and I decided to plan a trip without reservations and just put our stuff in the car and head out. The day before we left I decided to check the recreation.gov website to see if any spots had become available just so that we wouldn't have to leave home at 1:00am to do walk up at 6:30-7ish. To my surprise some had. We got so lucky and reserved spot B54r which is a riverfront bloop spot!!! Awesome views and spacious site. There is a market and pub near by so buying ice and wood was easy. Wood was about $7 a bundle with about 5 pieces per bundle. The campsite was very clean and extra quiet at night. The reason I am not giving the campsite a full 5 stars is because of the way our campsite was designed is that a lot of the rV camping families walk directly through our tent to get to the river. We came back from hikes on a few different occasions to people walking out of our campsite. It makes you feel a little uneasy.... The other campsites nearby didn't seem to have that same issue. Also, it's mid July. STEAMY and HOT!!! My husband and I found it very hard to sleep in a tent at this time of year 2:00am and its 80 degrees..... Yuck. But that's not the campsites fault. So there you go. Pros and of course some cons but overall I would recommend this campground to any Zion visitors. read more

We were in the D loop tent only area and when we were here it was basically a party campground. Bathrooms are nice, but the sites are close together and people are loud. There are also really aggressive squirrels because people are careless with their food. Not a very nice place to put up a tent, but there aren't many other options in the area. read more

Great campground with Zion in your backyard. There are flushing clean toilets with running water and a picnic table and grill firepit at every campsite. Our site wasn't particularly shaded but that wasn't a problem since we didn't return until later in the evening. The only downfall is that there are no showers at Watchman hence the 4 stars. The closest showers are at Zion Outfitters which charges an insane amount at $5 for 5 mins...no thanks! We were told you could bathe in the Virgin River that runs right next to the campground with biodegradable soap. This campsite also gets really windy at night! The first night I woke up in the middle of night thinking there was a thunderstorm rolling in but it was just the wind howling and hitting our tent. read more

We tent camped in March of 2013. Weather then can be unpredictable, but we hit it perfectly! We stayed at site 21, Loop D. WOW, what a view. sites come with a fire ring for cooking over the fire. Bathrooms have flush toilets with sinks and are heated. There is an outside sink for washing dishes. There are no showers and we were unable to find anyone in town (Springdale) that did have shower services no matter what we heard on-line. They have many places in town for buying wood, ice, etc. The tent sites were nice. While we were there, there were no leaves on the trees so there was minimal privacy. However, the view of the stars was mind blowing. Typical in that there were some really loud and inconsiderate people there that needed to be reminded about Quiet Hours, a few people with dog issues, but overall no issues. read more

Absolutely beautiful campground! Minus one star for the lack if showers and camp store on the park. There are public showers right next to the brewery in town which is a short walk or drive. We didn't know this so when we asked and were told we had to go out of the park, my husband and I reacted as if it were an hour ride back out. It's not, it's literally right next to watchman so no biggie but the showers are expensive and dirty. Watchman campground, however, is absolutely amazing and stunning. We stayed in the group area and met a few people. I highly recommend it but make sure to reserve in advance. read more

I know winter is not the ideal time to visit. We were there in Jan. But if you can deal with the cold, there's NO crowd. The campsite was almost empty on Thurs. Weekends are a bit more crowded. We didn't make reservations, just drove in. The park was just as empty. Plus you can drive your own vehicle throughout the park. You have to use the park shuttles from Spring to Fall. read more

ANTS! EVERYWHERE! The campsite we got had no less than 8 ant hills on it. And most all of these ant hills were inside the small confined space that was allowed for pitching tents and using as camp ground. On top of the ants, that confined space was a surprise. There's a wood barrier around the campsite that was so small we first thought it was just to outline the fire pit area and the parking lane. However, after setting up our tents outside this area in the very large open space the camp counselor came by and told us we had to be inside the wood. This made for some VERY intimate camping. The environment was nice, other than the ants, and I just enjoy camping in general so overall I had an okay experience. We did some scouting and found some other larger campsites and made notes of which ones we should book in the future. Well in advance, mind you. This place fills up quick. read more

The views don't get any better than this! It was also very convenient to the buses, nature center, bike path, river, and the Watchman Trail. DON'T FORGET TO FILL UP ON WATER! There's electricity at the sites but no water or dump hookup. There are bathrooms but no shower. You can pay to take a shower right outside the park gates, however. My kids had a blast playing in the (cold!) Virgin River right next to our site in loop B. Plan on renting a tube and going down the river- looked like fun! read more

The campground itself was fine but there was an extremely noisy road construction project on the adjacent road and this went on from sunset to sunrise. All night long, heavy machinery scraping, cutting, pounding, dumping, and of course the incessant beep, beep, beep of construction vehicles backing up. This literally went on until 6am. I don't know why there wasn't any warning about this... we would definitely have stayed elsewhere if we'd known, hence this review and warning to future visitors. We stayed January 3, 2018... not sure how long the project will continue. The park itself is spectacular. read more

Incredible scenery and a very well designed campground, spacious sites, well separated from one another. Electric at the sites in two loops, very clean restrooms, recycle bins, water and dump station nearby. Many sites are shaded, and the river is very close by. No showers, which was no problem for us in an RV, but would be a drawback for tenters. read more

My husband & I stayed here 3 nights after our visit to Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ. It was very hard to find spots/reservations but we were very lucky and go to reserve in advance in loop B site 60. Pretty much no shade so that was the hard part since we only did tent. Having hook up station was good since we got to charge our phones for picture-taking and internet browsing. Free internet at the Visitor Center. The restrooms are very clean and warm. The dish washing station is awesome and so the water pump where you can get water or rinse off. I had to soak my hair and head several times to cool off from the heat and the water pressure is strong so it was so refreshing, favorite part about the campground. Watchman Campground is an ideal location for Zion because its walking distance to the Visitor Center, Zion Outfitters (place to rent water gear which is must if you are doing a water hike so you can feel so much more at ease and have fun) and Springdale the town nearby. It was hot and dry, but the nights were starry and peaceful. The motors and A/C sounds from the RV's can be bothersome so if you can, get a tent only site, I hear they are very nice, but they do not have hook-ups. It is very hot, so bring a shade or find ways to cool off. The Virgin River that flows through Loop B is very muddy and murky so we did not go inside. We were used to the Rivers of Yosemite and Tahoe. But if you do the Subway (permit required) or Narrows River Hike, the water is very clean and cold, just not from the campground. No food lockers, no bears. Closest Showers at Zion Outfitters for $4 for 5 minutes. Because of the time limit, there is no lines. But they should really give you at least 7-10 minutes for the price of showers. Its clean though. read more

A concert and being able to hear it clearly is not in the cards. Come on park service, you need to get this under control! read more

Why would one complain about the lack of shade in a campground located in the desert? We were there in our RV in loop A. Our campground had plenty shade. Facilities were great and the campground is conviniently located within walking distance of the park and town shuttle. It would be nice if they had lights out hours and less facility lighting after a certain hour in order to fully enjoy the stars. I live in Los Angeles. Can't remember the last time I was able to see the Milky Way. Absolutely beautiful. read more

We stayed here in our RV in loop A. We reserved 6 months ahead to get a riverside spot. We discovered that you can't actually see the river form the riverside spots. It has a large burmed bank to prevent flooding and it's 100 feet from your site to the edge of the river. You are also looking right at the hotel across the river, but not that big of a deal. People regularly cut through our site to get to the river too. The site (A-009) was very nice and did have shade and plenty of space with our little 23' RV (It would have fit a 30'+ RV easy). The bathrooms were VERY nice but lacked showers. They were clean and almost new. The visitor center is 100 yard walk, nice! You can walk across a foot bridge to the local grocer, ice cream, outdoor shop, etc. or even hop the FREE shuttle into town form right there. All in all I say this is a nice site except for the usual lack of showers. We payed $20 a night and that was for a riverside space with power hook-ups (no water). read more
