I was displeased with the customer service at Watches Etc. I brought in a mechanical Tissot watch with an unusual leather strap that I was trying to replace. I was told the original Tissot leather strap is no longer available and there was nothing they could do. I felt insulted when they suggested I should use it as a paper weight. Besides this watch having sentimental value it's also still worth about $350. Anyway, I was able to find an aftermarket leather strap by a company in Germany and I installed it myself. I can't comment about their actual watch repair services but their customer service skills are severely lacking. Update: The owner's response to my review is..... "we offered you several alternative watch straps by different brands we carry in the store, but you declined". That is absolutely not true that never happened because my watch has unique ends and standard watch bands don't fit it, that's why I had to special order it from Germany. I went into the store to get a strap that I had already purchased replace a damaged strap on a watch. They replaced for it for free. I was blown away. They certainly have a good selection of mid to high end watches. And they were willing to answer any questions we had. My sense is that it's the type of place that provides high quality customer service - something very important if you need after sales service in regards to a high end watch. The store is a small independently owned business and it is the type of business that brings character to the town of Wellesley. It is cute and quaint. Breitling told me they could only replace just the clasp on my watch bracelet or the entire bracelet for a lot of money, if parts could be found. I had given up and went to Watches Etc to get a replacement strap. Tami said she could sell me a strap but she wanted to show my watch to the watchmaker first to see if anything else could be done. Within a few minutes he had found a replacement part for one piece of the clasp that completely solved the issue for about a tenth of what Breitling would have charged. I found the staff at Watches Etc. to be very professional. Offering to diagnose the problem and explore a repair instead of a quick sale is exactly what I want from professionals like them. I have to agree with another review about the surliness of the staff. I have taken my Cartier in on 3 occasions over the years for a battery replacement, twice no problem. On the most recent occasion I noticed that the crown (to adjust time) was missing. I have a hectic work & travel schedule so could not go in immediately, however, daytime savings meant I had to find time because I could not adjust it on my watch. The watchmaker - an incredibly rude man - denied having mislaid the crown (as I expected). I took a deep breath and said, 'you know, I would just like some assistance here, please give me a new crown and adjust the date.' He said he could not open the watch without the crown? Opening the watch has nothing to do with. He then said they would see if they could order one. The glum assistant then asked for my phone number and home address - I asked why the latter was necessary for a watch repair? She then said I would need to leave the watch with her so they could check that nothing was wrong with it I said there was nothing wrong with it, aside from the missing crown and time needing to be adjusted for daylight savings. She insisted they need to open the back of the watch to check it - this after the watchmaker saying he could not do it. I'm afraid it is easier to drive an hour into Boston to Cartier where there is always elegant, helpful staff than these surly, rather awful people. read more

Took my Swiss diver in for service and they did the best they could given the age and parts needed. However the biggest issue is the glum woman behind the counter. Neither her or the watchmaker seem be very warm and fuzzy. To tell you the truth I wasn't impressed with the craftsman either, I now take my watches to Saltzmans in Newport RI, they may take the watch for a month but it's service with a smile. I do believe this guy is a fair watch maker but you can find better. These guys are also fairly expensive. I just don't see any evidence of skill I can change batteries, bands and size brackets myself with tools I buy on Amazon. However, upgrading hands, finding parts for vintage watches, restoring them, regulating them and making them look new is an art a lost art and this isn't the place. read more

I had an exceptionally poor experience. Left some watches to receive estimates for repair/maintenance. I specifically asked front desk worker before leaving the store whether estimates were free of charge to which she responded "yes". The estimates were higher than what the ADs charge to send to factory so I politely declined and did not try to negotiate. When I returned to pick up the watches, I was charged an estimate fee. Given the contradiction from what I was initially told, I did not feel this was fair. The "boss" watchmaker showed up and interrogated the front desk worker whether I was telling the truth. She started stuttering and was clearly distraught. Watchmaker essentially accused me of lying and proceeded to rip up the paperwork. Raising his voice in a rude and condescending tone, I was told he would "never repair my watches again". I promptly left feeling very uneasy following this uncomfortable interaction. I felt for the front desk worker. Maybe he was having a bad day. Still, does not excuse him from mistreating people. read more

Had my third small watch repair and they did what I asked. However, it was again very pricey, but my main concern is that I have yet to meet a more unpleasant local employee as the woman behind the counter (who has been there years). She consistently acts put-out with customers. I have seen her indigence shown to others while waiting, she is unpleasant at the most simple of questions put to her. There are other more reasonable options -as much as I LOVE supporting local shops sadly it's too feel-bad to support this one. read more

I have had the watch for 7 months and only wear it about 2 days a week. Nevertheless, the clasp mechanism on the metallic band is starting to get stuck and I have to pry the clasp open with an awl (a type of steel tool). Can I give negative stars? read more

They have replaced crystals for me and I've purchased multiple watch bands and batteries there for a high-end dress watch as well as for a more casual watch. Authorized Victorinox repair center ...I own many Victorinox watches of various styles from self winding to battery and diving watches in both styles. They do an excellent job of battery replacing and pressure testing for reasonable price. I ship them my watches using their online form for watch repair. I have used them at least 6 times and always satisfied with the results. read more

I work in the area and popped in to have a couple links removed from my Omega for a better fit. 15 bucks and 20 minutes later the watch came back fitting great and without any scratches. The woman behind the counter even let me try on a couple watches even though I wasn't buying anything that day. They're very knowledgeable on Swiss pieces, and I'd trust them for more expensive repairs on mechanical watches. read more

Recently purchased a Victorinox watch which needed some initial adjustments not covered in the instruction manual. Victorinox referred me to Watches Etc. which was my first contact with the store. Staff (Mike) remained on the line with me offering instructions on how to adjust the watch and stayed on the line until my problem was resolved. This staff member was proficient, but most importantly, interested in resolving my problem. 5 star rating for that reason alone. read more

The back came loose from my watch. It was an old and not very well-made watch, but was a gift from my brother with sentimental value, so I brought it in for a repair here. A week later it was finally ready for pick up. The next day I realized the knob to adjust the time was not there. I hadn't taken my watch out of the bag, so I know I didn't lose it in the 24 hours since my watch left their custody. I brought the watch back in to ask if they had just forgotten to put it back on. They said that it would be at least $40 for them to replace the crown. The watch had a crown when I brought it in; it didn't when I got it back, and they want to charge more money for another repair. I will say I was surprised. My Dad has had good experiences here, so maybe it depends on who is working that day? read more

I have never written a review before but I was so happy with the service at Watches Etc I have to let people know. I brought my Rolex in because it was running very fast. I was told by the nice young lady it might be a day or two before they could get back to me. I got a call in 45 minutes with a very reasonable price and a clear explanation of what was wrong with my watch. My Rolex was ready in a few days ! Another repair shop told me 4 weeks! I had my watch recently repaired by Watches Etc and I'm very happy with the result. Its an very old watch that has been in the family for some time and the gentleman at Watches Etc was very knowledgeable about such an old timepiece. He serviced the watch within just a few weeks (where some stores had quoted me months!) and even cleaned up the outside of the watch so it looked like new. Have used this location for repair and recommendations of several reasonably high-end watches and they have done exceptional work at good price rate. Servicing mechanical watches requires a high degree of skill and, in my experience, there are authorized dealers who do very minimal work and charge high prices. The experience here was nothing like that - professional and high quality, but only what is reasonable and required. This has become my regular watchsmith...and I live an hour away. I came here to see if I could get my watch serviced, it was running about 45 seconds/day fast. I called them up, explained that I had a Swiss Legend with a Claro CL888 movement, and asked if they could service it. The lady on the phone said that their watchmaker would have to see it. I gave her the details of the movement again, told her it was a generic Claro automatic, Swiss manufacture, and asked her to talk to the watchmaker again, but she just came back and told me I'd have to bring them the watch before they would even give me an answer. I finally got the time to do that, arrived just as they were closing, and presented my watch to the lady at the counter who came back and told me that said that they couldn't service it because it didn't have a Swiss movement! I might have argued, but I had no time to waste bickering with this moron. How stupid can these people be? For starters, Claro is a Swiss company, and Swiss Legend is so named because they only use Swiss-made movements in their timepieces. Secondly, even if it wasn't a Swiss Movement, that wouldn't change the fact that any competent watchmaker should be able to service a simple automatic movement! What difference does it make what country it comes from? It says on their business card that they deal in "fine watches and fine watch repair", but don't expect to find any here. They sell Citizen, Oris, Victorinox...your average mall kiosk shit. As for "repair", if this mouth-breather calling himself a watchmaker doesn't know a Swiss movement from a Japanese one, do you feel safe letting him work on your Rolex or Audemars Piguet? I sure as hell don't. Given the positive reviews, I was surprised to find such an embarrassing level of ignorance. Total waste of my time. read more

My Chopard watch stopped working so I took it into Watches, Etc. About an hour after i left the watch, I got a call from the store saying that it needed extensive work and it should really be sent back to Chopard. They very kindly offered to send the watch for me. About 2 weeks later I received a follow up call with an estimate and about 2-3 weeks later I got a call saying the watch was finished and back at their store. My watch came back much more quickly than expected and in better than new shape. Watches Etc made the process very quick and easy for me and I would definitely recommend them for watch repair! I wouldn't buy a watch or have one serviced anywhere else. The owner went above and beyond any reasonable expectation with repairing my old watch. He was most fair and reasonable and I felt very safe in his judgement and advice. He and the young woman who works there were extremely patient with me and helped me pick out a new watch as well.
