In my previous home, I had Waste Industries for 6 years and had no issues. My husband and I moved and they didn't deliver the bin the day they said, then we have a week where they didn't pick our trash up. I was also told our pick up day was on Monday. It as picked up one on Monday. So I called again, this time I was told it should be on Wednesday and they would update the system. I have had them for 3 years and I call at least once a month due to miss days. Half the time our trash gets picked up on Friday. Found out a couple of ppl in the front of the neighborhood have a Friday pick up day. How does that happen? But it makes sense if our trash gets picked up majority of the time on they sat. Every time I call though they insist our day is on Wednesday. No one can tell me why our trash day gets missed, they are nice on the phone but I'm being told there's not much they can do. Not sure if the issues are do to them going from Waste Industries to GFL. I had such a great experience before and it's just been unfortunate it hasn't been the same as before. 90% of my neighbors use a different company. We are switching and I'm praying for better service. read more

Every week it is a guess as to where my garbage can will come to a rest. I live on a hill. Since they added the arm, they refuse to get out of the truck. The rolling/dragging of bins has damaged mine and my neighbor's mailboxes. Today, they just left boxes that would not fit into the bin. Waste Industries needs a new driver in Poplar Creek Estates. Update 4/7/2021 They are now collecting my trash every week except that they only started collecting my trash after I cancelled! It's been 20 days since they agreed to cancel. They still have not collected my bin or refunded any money. This is the Brentwood, TN location. Terrible! Original post: If I could give this company 0 stars, I would. They literally only had 1 job to do, pick up residential trash on my scheduled pickup day (that they provided). As a brand new customer, they did not complete a successful pickup for a month straight. I would have to call to report a missed pickup and then get it rescheduled. After 3+ weeks in a row I asked to cancel at which point I was told I'd be charged for the full quarter. I had to then file a formal complaint request to the local office because I "didn't agree with their cancellation policy" and was supposed to hear back from the local office within 24hrs. A week later, another missed pickup, and still no word on my ability to cancel without penalty/quarterly payment. This time when I called I finally found someone willing to cancel my contract without penalty. I'm thankful for that person but that's about it! read more

I have called 5 times and they have said each time (Kayla) that they red flagged my service and will have someone out the next day. Still nothing! I first signed up for GFL's trash services at the start of October 2022. It took three weeks before I was finally given a trash-can as I was told the company was having issues stocking them. Once I did receive my trash can at the start of November 2022, I was assigned a monday pickup. The first week came, and my trash was still there. So I called the customer service line and was told that it wasn't uncommon for the first pickup to be missed on accident as drivers were used to their routes and changes sometimes get overlooked. They promised to have my trash picked up the following business day. Which, to their credit, it was. However, the following week it happened again. When I called I was told that the driver was a sub and that it wouldn't happen again. But, yes, the following week it did happen again. I was told my account would be flagged in such a way that the driver would literally have to sign a log stating they had picked up my trash. The fourth week came, and again my trash wasn't picked up. When I called the customer service line, my call was escalated to the supervisor. At the time, her name was Amber. She was very polite and apologized profusely, promising to resolve the situation. She asked if she could have some time to investigate what was going on and would it be okay if she called me back later that day. I said yes. When she called back, she had to apologize, apparently the company was stretched thin and they didn't have the drivers to cover my route appropriately. GFL's answer to this was to cancel my account. I was told I would receive a refund for my prepaid 3 months of service and that it would take around 6-8 weeks for that check to arrive as it had to come from their parent company in Canada. I was kind of shocked that they were canceling my account, and even more frustrated with the fact that it would take so long to receive my refund. That was December 13th. Two months went by and I had not seen the check in the mail - so I called GFL again and was asked to be patient, that it might just be running a little late. Another month went by, and this time when I called I was told that the check had been cut on the 10th of March and should be arriving shortly. At the start of April, I called again, asking about where my check was. I was told by one representative at the corporate office that they would be looking into it and could I be put on hold? I said yes, and while I was on hold the call was dropped. So I called back only to be berated by a different representative for not being patient, that the first rep would be calling me when she had the answer, and I just needed to be patient with the whole process, despite the fact that at this point we were going on 3 and a half months into what was supposed to take 8 weeks tops. The second rep had no other answer for me, but to be patient, that I should hear from the first rep within a day or two. I informed this rep that after I got off the phone I would be reporting GFL to the BBB and to the Division of Consumer Affairs at my state AG office. A week went by and I never heard back from the rep. I was going to call today when I finally got the check in the mail - with the mailing stamp in the corner stating that it had been mailed on the 5th of April, two days after my last phone call, not on the 10th of March when I was originally told it was sent out. This company will not only fail to deliver on their promises of services to you, but they will lie to you about how long any refund will take, lie about when they sent out the refund, and basically ignore you until you threaten legal action. No one should do business with GFL. read more

Another week, another update. This time I watched the truck pickup my neighbor's trash, backup the road, and drive off, all with the container at the curb as it had been since the night before. The online form for a missed pickup is useless, they don't correct the skipped service, call you, or acknowledge they're taking your money and choosing to do nothing. Waste Industries is hardly a professional company!! Since I started with them 2 1/2 years ago, they have missed my street about 9 times. I live in a culdesac and cars park at neighbors sometimes trash cans are next to cars........the other waste companies, come and move the cans so the truck arm can reach the can..not WI...they just skip the house. Every time I have an issue with my bill, the office claims their system is down AGAIN or their phone rings busy for hours. I don't know how they think a business can be run like this!!! Been with them over 10+ years, the last 3 weeks, I've been serviced 1 time, they took my can and never replaced it, even though I've been given 5 different days that they promised I would get a new can..... every person I speak to promises it'll be delivered, and it never does... they claim a supervisor will call, they never do.... Apparently when you sign a contract with gfl it is a 2-year contract one or two years is up they don't come to you for a new contract they automatically renew your old contract and per the lady on the phone that we talk to when gfl needs money they just press a button and raise everybody's rates to gain more money guess it's a good way to keep shareholders happy read more

Terrible! They have a Monopoly in my area so I have no other choice. They Pre-Bill 3 months in advance and they can't even get billing right. Just 6 weeks ago I paid through the end of the year 2017, also 6 weeks ago they came and took away my PERSONAL collection bin I purchased and then told me they had no idea where it went and Charged me $100 to bring one of THEIRS out the same day. Fast forward 6 weeks to present, I just had to run outside and stop the guy from coming back to take my collection bin yet again, I was already paid up through the year, they missed THREE weeks of collections and this guy had a terrible attitude like he wanted to fight me. We hired GFL to service our home in a new development in the Nashville area. I signed up for trash and recycling service online and our trash bins were delivered the next day. We were told our trash would be picked up the following week, and recycling two weeks from the sign up date. All of the neighborhoods and houses around us use GFL so we thought everything would go well. On the third week our trash bin was finally picked up after skipping us for the first two weeks. One time they said they would send Saturday service since we were skipped, no one ever showed up. Yesterday they skipped us again but picked up everyone else on the street. The bins are neon green and we're right on the curb, hard to miss. The recycling truck has never shown up at all. When I called in to their office it would take at least half an hour every time for someone to answer the phone. They had no way of contacting the truck drivers, and the manager was unavailable because he was out on a truck due to understaffing. Emails I sent using their website were unanswered. The only thing the service person could do was leave a message for someone which was useless. This company is severely understaffed and poorly run. They have you prepay a quarterly fee, plus a prorated amount for the month you sign up, and then never show up. I cancelled and now have to deal with getting our money back. Do yourself a favor and do not consider using GFL. read more

Franklin, TN - This "service" is perhaps the worst residential utility service I've ever experienced. I've been a customer at the same address for over 10 years and they have consistently gotten worse even though I have not changed service. The group has zero issues billing me $109 per month for a standard offering yet they consistently miss pick-up based on their schedule. Additionally, forget about calling and discussing with customer service. They do not answer (tried CS, Billing, and Sales) after multiple attempts waiting and listening (music/advertising) for over 20 minutes each. Unbelievable. read more

Their service has been fine, but they recently raised our quarterly bill without any notification at all. We have recently switched to a new company. I have tried calling and emailing GFL MULTIPLE times in the past month to cancel my service. Nobody answers the phone, EVER! Nobody responds to emails, EVER! Aside from the fact that I live in Metro Nashville and still have to pay for my own trash pickup service, I signed up with Green Monster in January when I moved, as that was who my precious landlord used for the property I was renting. Green Monster was wonderful, and then I received a letter a few months back that they had been acquired by Waste Industries. From the first pickup with Waste Industries, I have had issues with them. They've been a day late on pickups, they've left trash in the bins (even though they are ALWAYS bagged), and they frequently leave the recycling in its' bin to the point that I just don't even bother with recycling anymore. I've sent emails and called them, and they promise to correct the problem, but it always happens again. I sent a final email yesterday to let them know the recycling hasn't been picked up in three weeks, and that I would be canceling service and dos not require a phone cal to follow up. They called today. I informed them I was not interested in talking, and that I would be canceling service once I signed up with Hudgins. I then received another phone cal from them, from a different number and a different person, asking when I would like my dumpster to be delivered. I didn't request a dumpster. I told him I would be canceling tomorrow and that they can take the cans when they take the trash. Do yourself a favor, and pay attention to the fact that they have such a low rating. It isn't just one disgruntled customer. It is several, and for good reason. I gave two starts instead of one because sometimes they get it right and pick up trash and recycling, and because customer service is respectful when I have spoken with them. Just recently got a dumpster from these people, has been almost 4 weeks and has yet to be emptied. Called customer service and she named 2 times that the driver claimed that we were either closed or a U-Haul was blocking the gate. Both are lies, we are very particular about anyone blocking our gate (this is a well known fact in this town). And if the it appeared that we were closed, it must have been after our business hours. The lady on the phone said that they started pickups at 12:00 a.m., we are not open at 12:00 a.m.. Our dumpster can only be picked up during our business hours, not there's. Every pickup I have to call customer service, schedule a missed pickup, and wait 3-5 days for my recycling to finally be picked up. Every time I call I ask customer service what is going on. Worst trash collection service ever! I cancelled their service close to a year ago, and they ended up acquiring the company I switched to. They leave my can in the middle of my driveway and/or in the road. Today, they put my can back in my driveway but did not dump the trash out of it. I knew something was off when I came home about 3 weeks ago & my can was in my driveway. Why are trash companies usually so horrible? We've had several in our 12 years in the Middle Tennessee area, and ALWAYS they have ended badly for us. UNTIL NOW. We are madly in love with this company. They have GREAT customer service (HELLO! UNHEARD of in this business)- there is always someone helpful on the phone when I have an issue. When I have forgotten to put my trash out, they have VERY kindly offered to schedule me for a run on a different day, so that my poor can isn't ridiculously overflowing and stinky for another week. But finally, when I HAVE forgotten to put my can on the road, the kindly trash person comes DOWN my driveway and picks it up. They have no idea what love overflows when I see that they have done this. As a mother of two children, who makes more trash than I should, WHAT a relief to see a nice empty can after the misery of realizing that I have forgotten to put it out! You know? So we've used them the whole time we've lived in TN. In the middle of last month (April), we received a letter telling us they will no longer pick up our trash. "Effective May 1, 2016, we will no longer provide residential trash and recycling service in your area. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience and will be more than happy to issue a refund for any payments you have made in advance." So they picked up last week and left the giant trash hopper. I called today (5/3) to see what was going to happen to it since as per the letter they are not coming back. I also wanted to clarify the "happy to issue a refund" as we pay quarterly. And I wonder if they cancelled the auto-pay. Surprise they are coming tomorrow (5/4) to get our hopper. Great that might have been good information to share with people. OH and even better they are taking the trash that is in it too. As for the refund, I was told they processed all refunds for the people being cancelled and that it would take probably SIX WEEKS! What?! You wouldn't let me be six weeks late on payment. I get that they had to make a business decision but communication in this matter would have been greatly appreciated. Also since you are quitting me I feel that the appropriate thing to do would have been to give me the names of other trash companies in my area that would like to pick up my trash. That would give warm fuzzies and I might have considered using you should our situation ever change. As far as picking up the trash, they did a good job. But we had a guy who drove up in a pick-up and got out to retrieve the bags from the hopper. The only other issue we ever had was a past due bill for a price increase that happened a year ago. We had auto pay set up from our bank because they didn't have that ability when we started. Whoa we owed them $11 for something like 5 quarters of the increase. We pay for recycling every other week however, for months, have only been receiving a pick up once per month. When you call (and actually get in touch with someone), they only offer a credit, not to come and do the job you have paid for. Also, if you don't call quickly to let them know the pick up was missed, they later tell you a credit can't be issued even though they didn't provide the service that was paid for. I don't know of another company that makes you pay for something you don't receive. Save yourself the frustration and choose another company for your trash and recycling service. read more

My trash was not picked up I called the office and they said it would be picked up on Thursday, it was not picked up, I called the office on Friday I am on the schedule. No pickup I called the office again and was told I was never on the schedule. I spoke with Cory he informed me I was definitely on the schedule for Saturday they were sending a truck to get the ones that were missed. It is 4 pm do Saturday and my trash is still sitting here. Our experience with Waste Industries has been nothing close to the many awful reviews posted here. We used their services over 9 years and they never missed a pickup day and on the very rare occasions we had to speak to an employee they were polite and helpful. That being said, we recently cancelled our service with them and use a competitor because our (already more expensive) bill jumped about 20% with no notice. The very nice lady I spoke to on the phone offered to price match but we'd already set up service with the new guys. If they don't work out we would probably go back to WI but for now we're going to save $18 per quarter. read more

We have been customers for two plus years and have had nonstop problems with this empire of laziness. Today they outdid themselves by refusing to take all of my recycle bags. They physically got out of the truck and manually emptied the recycle bin and then deliberately left the three extra bags that were on the ground and drove away. When I called to have it remedied I was told they aren't allowed to touch the extra bags (even though they touched everything inside the bin) BECAUSE OF COVID!!! This company has supposedly been bought out, or merged with GFL Environmental. I have had a trash can of theirs outside of my home for over a MONTH now. I was told someone would come get it on FOUR separate occasions, and it is STILL there. I've spoken with 4 or 5 different representatives from this company, and each said they were "submitting a ticket" to get it picked up. The final person I spoke with, said there was no ticket history. So basically, 5 people said they'd do something and didn't do it. No ticket history. This is how the business is run, and customer service is. Terrible. I hate doing this crap, I'm not a complainer, but these days this is the only way a business will care. I've called and left a message with the local supervisor over a week ago, haven't received a response. I posted a BBB Review which they responded to, but haven't responded to the email they requested I send, or any additional comments made by me on the review. I also left a review with pissedconsumer.com, hoping that maybe this pressure will encourage them to get this can out of my front yard. Please, contact me ASAP. I've called like 20 times, you've got my number somewhere or can retrieve it from one of the many voicemails I've left (probably at least 10?) or the several complaints I've left on various platforms. Best advice to ANYONE considering residential trash service, don't give this company the time of day. 1-star ratings across the board on several platforms, it's not looking good for them, and if you proceed with them as your trash service, it won't be looking good for you either.
