There is high turn over with in the staff and the board has a problem with being transparent and upfront with the parents. The atmosphere of the student body is very clicky and heavy with favoritism which might be the reason for a bullying epidemic there. The cost to benefit just isn't there when you are literally getting the same education in the public school system. This school started out strong when it was first built but over the past 5 years it has really gone down hill while its tuition increased due to the population growth in the area.

I came across SVA (Squaw Valley Acady) while researching for a boarding High School for my nephew…read morein China. I also spent a day there. Students use lap tops during class with wifi access. A lot of emphases is placed on learning with a laptop. . (All wifi are turned off at 11pm at night.). Considering all standardize tests in the US are computerized (MCAT, LSAT) and most work environments in the US use electronic records exclusively, lap top in classroom is a good idea. Students come from all over the world with the goal of attending a college in the US. SVA has transformed itself in the past few years to focus on college prep for international students. Class sizes are small, usually less than 10 students per teacher. I noticed the students get alone with each other rather well. This is observed during lunch time. I see students from different countries sit next to each other. Dorm rooms are 1-4 students per room. Most of the ones I saw have 3 students in them. There is a microwave on each hall, fridge and safe in each room. Overall the rooms are larger than the one I used to live at UC Berkeley 20 years ago. (unit 1 Cheney) and much larger then the tiny rooms at Univ of Tennessee. Washers and dryers are free for students to use. At night, dorm exits have security alarms, hallways are video monitored SVA pride itself at offering a balance between academic and personal development. They encourage students to take advantage of it's location to learn many physical activities Tahoe has to offer - hiking, soccer, golfing, cycling, ski / snowboard. I think this makes SVA different from other college prep school. I have the opportunity to spoke to students there. Due to the many Saturday field trips student take, expect another $4000 or so in additional expenses. While the students like them, parents may be surprised at the bill.

This reviews saddens me to write. This school is amazing, but there are some small issues I find…read more The most recent one is the change of system used for grades, schedules, counselors and such. This new system is so difficult to figure out and I don't understand why Manogue found they needed to switch it. This is a small issue that over time I know all families will just need to learn to love the new system. However, not only has the school's tuition gone up, which causes more financial strain on families but they have started to charge for little things, most recently they have started to charge a $100 schedule change fee. This is absolutely absurd. This is a small request on behalf of a family already paying so much money to attend Manogue and they have the audacity to charge us $100 to try and change a class. I cannot believe that they have gotten to this point. Very disappointed and saddened by this.

We were so impressed with not only the stage sets, costumes but the talent of these students.Their ability to sing and dance was amazing. All of them had great stage presence and were spot on with their lines and dance steps. Great talent! This was our first time and I promise we will return thank you for a great memorable performance and evening.

This is a wonderful recurring concert put on by amateur musicians playing alongside professional…read moremusicians at the Billyinghurst middle school. Very nice for professional musicians to come and spend time to let amateurs know what it takes to hone their craft they love si much. The amateurs comprised of people from all stages in their life, I saw many older musicians along with younger aspiring artists in the band. This is a great worthwhile art to support!

The library has up to date computer stations and services in a well designed study space, comfortable reading areas, a comprehensive childrens collection of books, and an excellent collection of western fiction books. The librarian on duty, Wynn, graciously served the patrons offering to get books from other libraries, offering coffee, and gave my husband and me information about the local area as well as helped us find material in the library.
