So cool to get on a ferry and watch nature at its best. The views of the city are top notch. Seats are comfortable, ferries are clean and staff is nice. read more

The Washington State Ferries are great fun on the water. It's a very enjoyable ride to the islands for an inexpensive day taking pictures and somebody told me they might be renting bicycles at the terminal really soon and that would awesome. read more

The ship is nice and process in terms of purchasing tickets, boarding etc. are fine. One thing to highlight - the ferry DELAYS, like a lot - on my day, I experienced 1 and 2 hours delays in the morning and afternoon respectively. This makes day trip from Seattle a VERY LONG Travel. I can't imagine people make arrangements cutting tight based on the ferry's scheduled times given the randomness of delay. Please allow yourself AMPLE time for travel. read more

On time on schedule. Crew fantastic. Elevators for disabled, ask the crew and they will park you next to it. Has a galley that serves beer for your convenience. More than adequate seating throughout the ship. Has Sun deck. There are many routes, this one happens to be Kingston to Edmonds 30 min run. read more

Terrible service from toll booth staff, they never notify you before purchasing a ticket if there's long delays or if the boat is overfull. If you even seem slightly upset over the prospect of sitting hours in your car waiting for the next late boat, you'll face lectures and nasty faces. All of them need to be fired and replaced with people that really want a job. read more

Seeing is how I have nothing to compare the Washington State Ferris (WSF) to in this life or any previous life. I totally dig the WSF! Be it from Seattle to Bainbridge. Be it to Kingston to Edmond or the other way around. Anacortes to everything San Juan and back again...I totally dig the WSF! Always punctual, after chilling out in your sled, the ferry comes. Some are bigger than others...regardless of the size of the vessel, it's all about the views. Sure you could chill in vehicle, but don't deprive yourself of walking around and checking out the character that is unique to each ferry, or checking out what is happening in the world around it. You never know what your going to see, hear, or feel. The sky, the water, the whales, the dolphins, the cool, crisp air, the rhythmic doldrums of the craft....It's all awesome! Depending on the route, some ferries have a galley, and in those galleys there is beer. Though your are restricted to where you can consume your fermented beverage, it absolutely takes the edge off. I have been a passenger on every trip and could always enjoy a second cup if time permitted. I would be remiss if I did not say something about the picturesque ferry pulling into Lopez Island, of which I have enjoyed many, many, many a time while looking out the living room window, from morning to evening, sipping a this and that. I look forward to many another ferry ride in both the near and distant future! read more

I cannot give enough praise to the crew of the 2:05 pm Puyallup ferry (from Seattle to Bainebridge) and everyone else involved in the rescue of a passenger overboard. Truly remarkable. Thank you. read more

Let me first state the the ferries here in Washington state are great -- I've never once had an issue with a ferry not being on time or being unable to catch the ferry I've wanted. Service is fantastic. My biggest issue is with the inconsistent pricing. I don't understand why it costs more to go from one side to another. For example in Edmond you get charged for Car & Driver as well as passengers, but in Kingston on the way back you only get charged for Car & Driver. It makes no logical sense why one side would be $25 and the other side would be $16 when the level of service is the exact same. read more

Very expensive to take your car from Bainbridge Island to Seattle but view and experience is worth it every once in awhile. Make sure you walk around and explore ship. Plenty of good viewpoints. read more

People call me crazy, but I actually enjoy my 1.5 hour (each way) daily commute. About 45 minutes is spent driving and the other 45 is spent waiting for a ferry, or on a ferry. Seeing as I spend nearly 4 hours a week on these vessels, it seems fitting I dedicate review #300 to them. They do, after all, greatly facilitate my commute. I've found the ferry system to be a pretty decent, efficient mode of travel. Sure there are days when they'll randomly depart a few minutes early (damn those days, I hate having to wait for another one) and then there are days when they depart later than expected. Nothing is perfect so these not quite on schedule issues don't typically bother me, but with my luck I'm always running late when they leave early and am early when they're late. Oh well. The ticket booth employees are all really friendly and I find the brief conversations I have with them are always pleasant. It's amazing how a smile, a "have a good day", or "do you like elk?" always puts a smile on my face. I have yet to step foot outside of my car while on the ferries, but I hear they serve beer. That's cool. Without WSF I would be stuck driving through freakin' Tacoma and up the peninsula to get to work.... which, yeah.... wouldn't be fun. I just wish the cost wasn't so high. Even with a discount it's obscenely expensive to ride the ferry each day. No bueno. Otherwise, WSF rocks my world! read more

One of the employees for the Washingto state ferry on San Juan Island was one of the rudest person I have come across in a long time. Don't ask them any questions if they are at the booth where you walk on to The ferry. The state employee cleaning the bathroom and the person supervising him are super rude. I guess it sucks to get payed well , have good insurance and a good retirement package. read more

For the time being, I'm commuting on the Bainbridge ferry almost daily to and from work. Even though it's part of my everyday routine, I am still struck by the unparalleled beauty of going up to the top deck on a clear day, sitting in the sun, taking in the 360 degree view of the city and the mountains, and letting the salty air whip my hair into a frenzied mess. The Washington State Ferry system is (for the most part) a highly efficient operation. During the morning and evening commute and especially on summer weekends, however, demand for ferry space exceeds supply if you're driving on in your car. At these times, bring a book, or games if you have kids, and prepare to wait. Vendors on each side make the wait easier with some decent food and beverage options. I like Commuter Comforts on the Bainbridge side and Cafe Appassionato at Coleman Dock in Seattle. Skip the food and beverages on the ferry if you can help it-- it's largely overpriced and mediocre. Ferries also have wifi but it's through Boingo which requires a paid membership (9.95 per month) and gives you access to all Boingo hotspots which apparently include McDonalds and Starbucks (awesome?). It's really only worth it if you frequent these sort of establishments or commute every day. If you have out of town guests, nothing beats the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island and back on a clear day. Check the schedule online, avoid Friday and Sunday evenings, and be flexible if the wait is longer than you expected (If you walk on rather than drive onto the boat this is not an issue. This is also far less expensive). On Bainbridge, there's a lot to do, but definitely stop by Mora's ice cream in Winslow (walking distance from the terminal). You won't regret it. read more

My observation of the Wa State Ferry System, with regard to the loading and unloading crew is that they are soooo slow, and display no initiative in meeting schedules and timelines. Almost every run on the Anacortes to San Juan Islands is running half hour to an hour late. Watch the crew...they slowly load one car at a time using limited hand signals, as if they didn't have a care in the world. Often they will stop altogether to evaluate how many cars are in what area of the boat. Rather than using prompting, encouraging hand signals, they often just stand there. If they can't meet timelines for loading and offloading, then someone needs to be evaluating each employee. Suggest security cameras. Regular Evals to see if (in the presence of supervisors) loading and unloading timelines and schedules are met. read more

So I got the ultimate souvenir from my trip to Seattle and the San Juan Islands - a cute travel mug that says "We heart our ferries" with an Orca hugging a ferry! 5 bucks and I love it! (Too bad I don't live in WA - $1 refills people!) We took the ferry from Anacortes to San Juan, San Juan to Orcas, and Orcas back to Anacortes, and it was perfect every time. I love the ferries! read more

Sunday while boarding a ferry to Bainbridge Island at about 5:00 PM one of the loaders directing vehicles violently hit the trunk of my car with his hand as I was passing him. I stopped and got out of my vehicle to confront the worker and check for damage to my vehicle and to see what his problem was and he rudely shouted stay in your lane. I have never been treated so poorly by a state employee, a public servant in my life. this person should be fired before he attacks someone or causes a fight on the dock, I wanted to strike back but held back because I wasn't alone and probably would have been arrested and that's no way to spend a Holiday. I feel that this behavior was totally inappropriate and unprofessional from a public servant. The worker was a white male about 5'9 175 LB graying mustache and Beard, about 60 years old. read more

The walk on rate is great. But you will get raped in the ass if you drive on. It's over $25 round trip for the driver alone. I used the ferry more than 3 times a week for about 3 years (college related). The toll-booth workers are SO rude, for both- walk on and drive- on areas...I guess that's why they're there in the first place, god knows what they would be like in any other customer service situation. read more

Really, the boats don't ram the docks very often and the last wildcat strike I remember was on my 13th birthday when we were trying to get off the island I grew up on to celebrate. Yes, ferries are useful, especially if you live on an island without a bridge to the mainland like I did, but they're also fun. Want to kill a few hours? Pack a picnic on a sunny day and ride back and forth between downtown and Bainbridge or Bremerton. If you're really lucky you might see orcas. read more

Ferries are old and break down frequently. The ferry system in WA is anything but reliable. Also don't be fooled by the reservation system on the anacortes ferry - your reservation expires 30 minutes prior to boarding and you will be boarded on a first come first serve basis. It's like that Seinfeld episode where the rental car clerk doesn't understand what reservations mean. read more

Ride the ferries with kids- they will LOVE it. This is a fun thing to do with kids, rain or shine. My daughter loves to walk up and down the length of the ferry- and it is very stroller friendly as well (at least the main part of the boat- the stairs, not so much). We can always rely on this old standby when we have guests from back home (midwest)- it delights kids AND adults. read more

I took a trip to bainbridge and back yesterday and it was really easy!! It was a Sunday, so probably a lot less traffic than a week day, but it was pretty simple. It was about $35 for 2 of us and our car to get there and back which was pricy, but worth it. Overall a very good experience. read more

Great service, crap food. Seriously, worst food ever! I was dying for a burger and was really hungry so I thought, "Awesome ride and great burger to boot!" Not so. The burger was charred on the outside and dessicated on the inside. Gross tator tots and flat soda didn't help. I was so sorry I wasted the money and the calories on this lunch when so much good food awaited us on Orcas. YUCK! read more

I can't think of a much more pleasant commute than this one. It's a boat. It serves beer. On warm summer evenings, it is particularly nice to stand outside on the top deck, watching the city disappear into the distance. If you're visiting the city as a tourist, don't bother with the overpriced Argosy cruise. Instead, for about $7 round-trip, you can take a 35 minute ferry ride to Bainbridge Island, where you can walk around and go shopping or have lunch, or alternately get right back on the ferry to head back to Seattle. read more

While on a recent trip to Seattle my parents and I took the ferry over to Bainbridge Island. We had been debating doing one of those harbor cruises but I'm a budget traveler from way back and I simply refused to pay those ridiculous prices. I thought a trip over to Bainbridge would be a great way to see the skyline of Seattle on the cheap while making our way to another vacation destination. At about $7 round trip you just can't beat the price. The trip was smooth, the terminals were easy to find and navigate and we took a lot of pictures of the gorgeous scenery. read more

Oh, how I miss you WSF's! Can't wait to see you again in August!

Only $6.70 for a round trip to Bainsbridge. A BEAUTIFUL ride on a giant ship that holds cars too...so much fun and photo opps on this ride!

Yay ferry boats.... I feel like everytime I am on the ferry from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge Island that I am in heaven. I don't know why, yes its silly, but they are ferry boats people! You cannot get a better view of the skyline of beautiful Seattle, and its fun! Who cares if the snacks are lousy and overpriced. Who cares if its just a big boat? I do! I find it a perfect way to go across the sound when up at Mom's. Also, with the diff weather you encounter, it is always an adventure. A+ for being on time for me every single time!! I have been on these ferries more times than I can even count, and it never gets old! read more

Unless you need your car, park it and don't take it. It was about $25 for two of us round trip (plus a $5 parking fee). The ride was smooth and the view was GORGEOUS (inside and outside). I could ride it all day and be happy. The passenger area was a bit dirty (even in the morning), so maybe a few extra staff to run a broom, mop, or wipe tables. The staff, though, was knowledgeable and friendly. If you have a few hours to kill and want a somewhat peaceful* ride, take the ferry somewhere. *I say somewhat peaceful because it seems that parents like to let their kids run around screaming everywhere - not the ferries fault though. read more

I take the Bremerton to Seattle daily as a walk in and it is the most efficient way to commute. I have a month pass and it automatic reviews. Make sure to arrive 5 minutes early because the ferry can leave a couple of minutes early. If you also line up early if you want a window seat to see the seals. read more

When I first moved to Washington, I lived in Port Orchard and worked in Kirkland (yeah, I know!) and I was super pumped to take the ferry. I loved it! It was pricey for me so I ended up inquiring about a monthly pass. The woman I spoke with aloud me to buy it one the 14th of April and said I could use it until the beginning of June. I was really grateful and dashed onto the ferry. On my way back from Seattle, I was unable to get through the gate and found out that my pass did not start until May. Well, I had just pretty much used all of my money to buy the pass (moving from New York to Washington will do that to you.) and was really upset that I was given the wrong information. I spoke with a gentleman at the counter about it and he was nothing but attitude. A skinny older Sir in his 60's. He was really rude and I said that I felt we were getting nowhere on this predicament and wanted to speak to his manager. So what did he do? WHAT DID HE DO?! he looks over to the guy next to him and says "hey ***** do you want to be the manager today or should I be?!" Excuse me? Shut the front door! How dare you speak to a customer that way. All I was looking to do was get my money refunded so I could afford to get home for the night. I ended up crying and leaving and was finally able to dig up some change to take the ferry home. -After missing my ferry and having to wait for the next one. Being alone in a huge city 3,000 miles away from itty bitty hometown and 18 years old; this was my first journey into the world without my parents and it was a horrible one at that. Yes, you would think being from New York I would be a accustomed to rude people. I am not your typical New York thug. I have feelings too, Old Man Sir. Ooooh and then, AND THEN. One day my boyfriend brought me to the ferry so I could enjoy a wonderful day at my favoritist job, EVER! And my poor puppy had to poop. And, if you know any dog, you do not tell them where or when to poop. So he decided to take a nice little doosy in the walkway and I was guarding the pile of steaming abomination while my boyfriend found a bag to pick it up. This attendant practically flies over on her broomstick and starts screeching at me to have that "Asshole of a boyfriend pick up my dogs shit." Mother of Pearl! What is wrong with you people? I practically bent that Old Ma'am over my knee and made her think twice about talking to any human being that way. Well, not practically, I was sure thinking it though! At this point all I wanted to do was hop on the nearest plane and fly back home to my New York thug life. Well, guess what?! I am still here - Killing it with kindness! read more

I love the convenience of the ferries! It is much better than driving around (from Kitsap to Seattle). I like being able to get out of my car...use the restroom...grab a snack...and read a book. The Wifi works great as well. The only reason I did not give it 5 starts is because the cost is very expensive. It costs our family around $50.00 to go to Seattle and back. read more

i used to work on a ferry... and i must say the staff on the Washington State Ferries have a much more difficult job. Buffet style food stations are always stocked, and the bar tenders are very cool. Seating is ample and comfortable... if you want to take a nap or have a good convo while you're traveling... the WSF was an great experience. read more

They get me where I needed to go. I used them nearly every other weekend for a year and they never let me down. It was rough going while the food service was on strike but now I can get my beer and Ivars chowder and enjoy the sights out of the huge windows. Sure they are pricy if you drive but the service is well worth it. Birding from the Ferries can be great at times too. read more

The one star is simply for getting me across a large body of water. Maybe I'm jaded about government workers but every interaction I've had with someone at this terminal makes me wish there was a private ferry company I could pay twice as much for and tell these assholes to suck it. But alas, there are no other options so I deal. If you ask a simple question at the ticketing booth you are guaranteed that the answer given will ensure that you need to ask 10 more questions just to get to the point of your original question. The attendant that "helped" me yesterday rolled her eyes at me while texting. Sorry to interrupt your candy crush game, I just wanna buy a ticket for my brother. So you happen to give military discounts? "Nah" another eye-roll followed by gum smacking. Let me guess, never heard of customer service either huh? And don't be in a rush trying to buy a ticket to make a departure time, I've seen the ticketing agents slow down to a sloths pace if they sense any urgency from their next victim..err customer. Glad I've got my orca card and I don't have to interact with those jerks anymore. read more

Took the ferry between Anacortes and San Juan, and this was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip. The view is GORGEOUS!

I was BAFFLED at the classiness of the ferries. This was like FIRST CLASS ferry ride. The price was totally reasonable ($7.50 for both ways) and the ferry left RIGHT on time. The ferry itself is huge and has wonderful, clean and clear windows everywhere so you can see how beautiful Seattle is from every angle. The chairs are incredibly comfortable and huge. You can go outside and enjoy the views and sun. We took the ferry to enjoy a relaxing day at Bainbridge Island and the ride was honestly one of my favorite parts. I cannot wait for another good reason to go on the ferry. read more

It's a good transportation system but they seriously need to add a route from Bainbridge island to bremerton. Whether it's the fast ferry or the foot ferry.
