The Washington Park is one of the larger parks on the main island of Alameda, and it is divided into two sections, the Upper Washington, with the playground, recreation center, basketball courts, and the Lower Washington, where visitors will find the tennis courts, dog park, fitness trail. I think it's a good place for locals to walk around and chill.

Maybe because it's on its own island, Alameda has a vibe on its own separate from the rest of the East Bay. The South Shore has a beachy vibe, and the West End adds a folksy vintage charm that makes this nice patch of greenery an ideal fit for its surroundings and also for the local residents. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches, and of course, the adjoining beach. The Crab Cove Visitors Center has an aquarium which recently reopened for limited hours, but honestly, just taking a stroll and watching the windsurfers is enough of an activity on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Went here for a wedding.. Although the ceremony was beautiful and on such a beautiful warm / breezy day sitting under a shaded tree was perfect . The wedding ceremony was located next to a tennis court. Parking lot is small we were lucky to find parking spots. Walked a few yards past the tennis court to the ceremony location. This is where I stopped dead on my tracks. ;( Tons of ducks/ swans / geese ? some kind of bird related Poop .. ugh!! All over the grass area.. (all I could think about was my dirty shoes) I can't wait to have this ceremony to be over so I can clean my nice beautiful alligator hot pink sling back heels .. As soon the ceremony was over I made a quick dash to clean: wipe off the nastiness of my shoes in the bathroom located right at the parking lot..

Expansive park with lots of amenities: walk/bike trail, dog parks, tennis courts, basketball courts, restrooms, grills/BBQ pits, baseball fields, etc. Perfect spot to catch the sun set at Crown Memorial State Beach. This park has something for everyone, and having a such a huge, peaceful space like this to have fun in and clear your head is my favorite part about living in Alameda. Some parts of the beach smell like a hint of ass, likely a combination of old seaweed washed up from the bay and geese turds in the lawn (total minefield, so watch your step)!

Date: 4/23/2016 Time: 11:35 AM 61° Partly cloudy Yesterday was Earth Day. Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970. Forty-six years of celebrating Mother Earth and the environment. We, as people, need to take better care of the ground we walk on and the air we breathe. Recycle, compost, less items in our landfill, please and thank you. The local newspaper, Alameda Sun, had an insert in its paper, announcing Earth Day to be held at Washington Park on April 23. Event is from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Purpose of visit: Earth day with a host of various vendors, ARPD (Alameda Recreation & Park Dept.), EBRPD (East Bay Regional Park District), APD (Alameda Police Dept.). Cafe Jolie was selling beignets for $4.00. Kettle corn was being sold in three different sizes by a vendor. There were also two businesses signing people up for monthly delivery of organic produce (Farm Fresh to You was one; don't remember the other one). Trader Joe's was handing out samples of free popcorn, free animal cookies. In the field area, they had fun activities for children (inflated bouncing cages, jungle gyms). Weather was perfect to the point that I was humming the song by Spanky and Our Gang, "blue sky, sunshine, what a day to take a walk in the park..." - Washington Park, that is. It is located on the west end of Alameda, within walking distance from my home. I have been to this park numerous times in the past for picnics and bbqs, walks on their paved pathways and getting a workout on the tennis courts. One can also sit in their bleacher area to catch a baseball/softball game during the day or night. Basketball courts are available for shooting a few hoops, 3 on 3 with your buddies or practicing your free throws. It's a great park for families with children, especially when it comes to birthday parties. The park has a play area for young children; and plenty of grassy area in the sun or in the shade to relax with a book, blanket and a few snacks. The only minor drawback: parking can be difficult on the weekends. They have a parking lot, but it fills up quickly.

My company plays annual softball here every summer. It's such a great park with a parking lot near the dog park, basketball courts and softball/baseball fields. In the summer, the sun doesn't even set until past 9pm, so there's always a beautiful sunset with hues of pink, orange and blue in the sky after our late game. It's also so close to all the yummy restaurants and bars, so it's a great way to burn the calories after nomming away!

A very chill park that has a baseball field, tennis courts, and exercise equipment along the paved walkway. Nice big trees to cool out under and also bathrooms and bbq areas are there also. Also, this park is within walking distance to the beach, so you get that nice breeze in the summer time.

I have lived in Alameda for 21 years, and eventually moved to Oregon. However, Washington Park has always held a spot in my childhood memories. I still remember a decade or so ago they used to have a black freight train here for kids to play in. I returned back to here last week, while visiting family here, and now I'm a proud father. My three kids still enjoyed this park, maybe just as much as I have when I was young. Great atmosphere and field area - baseball field, basketball court, dog park, and a childrens' play area.

Ask the Community - Washington Park

Is this a good spot to fly kites? Saw it was recommended from another site.

There's a large open field (baseball and softball) and it's also close to the beach. Breeze is stronger in the mid-afternoon.

After parking, if you can find a spot, the first play area includes a trampoline, climbing structure, a wide metal slide and an oversized musical chime. To the left are three picnic tables. In front of the sand area is the smaller kids play area which is directly next to the restrooms and water fountain. To the left of the little play area is the zip line. When you go further in to the park, there is a covered area with lots of picnic tables and seating grouped together, more benches and lots of grass to play and explore further. There are paths to ride bikes, scooters, roller blades and skateboards. During warmer weather this park is packed. When we visited, following a prior event, there were already lots of kids on a gray, windy, overcast day. This park is spacious on the interior but parking on the exterior is limited. The parking lot is minimal for the amount of space to explore, which is awesome but makes it difficult to navigate up close parking. Street parking is not really existent unless you enter on the opposite end of the park.

I only noticed this as my mom never told me not to talk to strangers or be scared of people I didn't know as a little kid - but she advised everybody who would listen to stay away from these kinds of vans. Enough of me sounding like Forest Gump telling you about 'Momma always said...." Weather in Alameda is nice and that is a plus - but the problem is you would never come to this park if you didn't just stumble upon it or live close. No, no, this isn't some destination. Across the street is a new development. I like it because it kept the old brick historical front and it hid well the huge new monstrosity sitting just behind. I heard that developer is huge in the area and owns and collects rent from many hard working locals. Get the kiddos out - they had enough Tic Tok - talk to them. Tell them something - let them know if they listen to all the social media nonsense its message starts to have too much weight in life.

The 4 pickleball courts were converted from 2 tennis courts and have permanent but recently replaced nets. Surfaces are very worn with numerous cracks and can get gritty from sand/dirt blown from the 2 adjacent bocce ball courts. Play is from 8am to dusk and players range from beginner to advanced with mostly intermediate players. Players are friendly and receptive to visitors and beginners. Prospective players put their 4 paddles on the fence under the numbers 1-8 and venture on to court as a 4 person group when courts become available. On occasion, a yellow pickleball with a hook is put above beginner paddles in search of other beginner players. The recently renovated playground has structures to climb, slide, swing on and has a new bark surface. The new structure has nearby benches allowing parents to sit and watch their children play. A rose garden and a grove of Redwood trees are on the High Street side of the park for those looking for some Zen time. Beautiful spot for pictures and picnicking below the redwood trees. FYI - there is a defibrillator in the swim center. Public and clean restrooms are located next to the small parking lot. Restrooms are well maintained as the park maintenance department has equipment and workers based at this location. Overall, a beautiful neighborhood multi-purpose gem of a park... needs PBall court resurfacing though...
