The safety railings and paved walkways with extra grooves to prevent slippage, especially in steeper sections. The trails would also make a great place to run as most of the paving is flat. This is definitely a place for repeat returns.

Parking is street in a residential area, free of meters and parking time limitations. The park is closed off to traffic, so crossing between the tot and big play areas is pretty safe. It is very quiet, even with the sounds of children and adults. There are two benches directly on the play area of the big kids (5-12), with three additional double benches with attached tables. There are well maintained, stocked restrooms directly off the big kid play area. Littles and parents will have to time their potty time as it is about 30-45 seconds from the tot play space. Definitely a cute little neighborhood park to visit if you are in the area.

But as soon as we landed I didn't like it :( I really wanted to love the idea of frog park and I love that they are using this area for a good purpose but it's right below the highway and it sucks because of so much noise it creates :( I don't know but my idea of children's park is in a quiet area with lots of greenery for them to enjoy. Frog park has some decent space a nice wood chipped playground and 1 decent bathroom. But that's about it. I don't feel good about coming here for a casual day or a party. I wish Oakland had more amazing parks such as Berkeley has. Sad :'(

The park has a walking trail (known as the Montclair Railroad Trail) that is located just behind Montclair Village and is about 1.5 miles long (3 miles round trip). This trail is paved and almost completely flat, and it runs behind homes and through pretty tree groves. Aside from the paved trail, there's also a children's play area, large grassy field space, and a small scenic overlook. There are also several rest benches and some neat interpretive trail signs that detail the history of Shepherd Canyon. Apparently, this trail use to be an urban railroad and was also known as highway 77. Along the trail, you'll find an adorable community garden and a neat little area up on the hill where skateboarders test out their tricks. There are also helpful mile markers throughout the trail. Part of the trail runs along Skyline blvd through the upper hills neighborhood. It's pretty easy to connect to other popular regional parks from the trail at Shepherd Canyon Park such as Sibley, Huckleberry, and Redwood Regional Parks. Since the trail is flat and easy, you'll find a lot of young children, families, and elderly frequenting this trail. Since it's not as popular as the regional parks nearby, the trail isn't crazy busy and is mainly frequented by locals. I enjoyed my brisk walk through this quaint little park and trail, and will definitely be visiting again once the weather starts to warm up again.

You've got a pretty cool baseball field with more field area for some other activities like ultimate frisbee, etc. You've got 2 different play structures and there are bathrooms. There are tables with benches throughout the park and if you'd like to have a party there, you can do so through the parks and rec department. They even have some great basketball courts and I enjoy seeing the pick up games in action! Some sad things are that the bathrooms are never clean. I am not a fan of taking my little ones in there and try to avoid it. I often find drug paraphernalia or needles on the ground and/or tables near the benches, and there's no shade in the park area except for one bench. As much as I love coming here since it is located near businesses like restaurants and we get to run into some friends there, I try to avoid it.

I later learned that there are multiple marinas in the Bay Area and so far, I went to two of them as of today. This is pretty much like a smaller peninsula of the marina where you can relax and picnic here. It's really a great place to come here in the morning to get some breeze and walk around it. There are multiple benches here and that's really good because when sitting, you're basically viewing the peninsula, San Francisco, and as well as the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. It's quite naturalistic here with much greenness here. I heard that you can make reservations to picnic at the benches. Also, there is a free 4-hour parking limit here and that's very long and that's fair enough since this parking lot isn't large especially when some parking spaces are reserved for permit holders or marina members I think.

Safer to walk now; no garbage, litter, human waste, needles, fires, property crime, etc. everywhere any more. Community Center - Rebuilt. Atmosphere - Finally clean and safer. Look forward to seeing "kids" use this park again. Good news, less gang violence, but more homelessness. Service - Self service. Price - Free. Owner Comment - Congrats on your goal in 1996 to better utilize this wasted space. Then in 2002, it slowly started to change for the better. But too little too late. It is not until 2024/2025 (end of 2024) that the park actually looks safe and habitable.... I hope we/you can keep it that way! Our government at work, it just took 2024-1996 = 28 years from idea to action... Thank you to all the volunteers and advocates that finally made this all happen! Overall still 3 stars (used to be 1 star) but with continued improvement, I can see the rating improve.

Clinton square park is descended from the clinton township of the 1850's. the township is named after mary ellen clinton, the township founder's girlfriend. jack london and robert louis stevenson lived nearby here at one time. the native american tribal center is a block away. this area may seem to be mostly populated by southeast asians, but there are also significant numbers of native americans, latins, and russians in the area also. parking spaces are a premium here as the surrounding commercial businesses attracts many cars. a shame since this prevents me from frequenting clinton park more often.

One car speeds down the road going maybe 20 miles over the speed limit - a few seconds later an old mustang peels out and fishtails around without any control of its direction. From the people speeding down the street - that alone I wouldn't let my cat out in this area - let alone any other human loved one. You would think people would have more respect in areas kids play or go to school but they don't. Dead lawn - tons of it - trash and cars that probably didn't move in months clutter the streets. I hate to hate on some park - and maybe you live nearby and its your jam - but likely this place wouldn't attract anybody who lives more than a block or two away. Your here because its in your back yard or you stumbled on it. To me parks like this are bad enough I would think the city might be better off redeveloping or rethinking the space.
