It's amazing, but there is a right and wrong way to do this tour. Let me help you out: Go on to the website and get a tour lined up beforehand. You can show up without tickets, but you could end up waiting an hour or more. With the reservation, you breeze into your tour without the anxiety of waiting in a line to find out when you can go on the tour. I've done the line, and it's hit or miss. Get the res. The tour is FREE. This is an amazing service to the public and it's one of the truly fantastic things about DC. They could easily charge but they don't. The tour is excellent. It starts with a short video in a lovely auditorium where you get the full scope. I've seen this video now a dozen times and it's inspiring. Then you get broken up into 1 of 5 groups and assigned a docent who communicates over your own personal radio-headset. You don't see the actual chambers of congress on the tour, but this is something you can do on your own and sit in the gallery during an actual meeting of Congress, if you like. The Rotunda is impressive. The art is museum quality. The halls are hallowed. The information is extensive. Each docent does their tour a little different and they all impart so much information, you would literally need to be on the tour a dozen times to absorb it all. This is an A+ experience in DC and a must if you come to visit. And, frankly, going to the gallery is impressive for only about 20 seconds. You sit above and listen to the presentation of a bill and see a few famous members of our legislative branch, but after 10 minutes, it's exactly like watching C-SPAN. Literally. Go on this tour of the Capitol building. You'll walk away feeling you really saw something worth remembering.

What's nice is that they provide free tours even without reservations. The next tour ended up starting in under 10 minutes. Like the other reviews mentioned, I do wish the tour was a little longer. You start off with a brief movie giving a quick overview in an auditorium prior to getting in line with a guide. You're given headsets and follow along a rather big group as there are many tours going on simultaneously. Then you visit and learn about the Crypt, the Rotunda and National Statuary Hall. The whole tour felt under an hour for sure. Very educational, historic, and definitely worth checking out if you've never done so before. After that you're free to explore with limitations. Didn't get the chance to see the Exhibition Hall. The bathrooms were exceptionally clean, very nice gift shop, cafe, and there's even a 5 minute passage over to the Library of Congress if you want to explore that after.

I was surprised, as I thought this would be a glorified gift shop or place to learn about the area. If you are looking for a good gift shop, they do have one with lots of merchandise from the White House Historical Association. The exhibits and replicas are fun and would be interactive, but many screens were broken. One area featured a spot where you could write down an idea of what the president should do, but there were no pencils or paper. The suggestions were from many years ago, mostly the Obama administration. On the other hand, the staff members were incredibly nice! They are National Parks Employees and showed me an authentic piece of the White House that broke years ago. His enthusiasm for his job is the big reason why I'm giving the center four stars instead of three. I worry that with the current Republican administration's budget cuts for national parks and sites, the museum may not get the fixes it needs to continue to educate people about the White House.

I always enjoy visiting places that honor the dedication, service, and sacrifices of those who have served. This was a small museum, but it was a meaningful tribute to the men and women who enlisted and committed themselves to serving our country. Even with its size, it carried a lot of history and respect for those who wore the uniform.

It was crammed together which I wish there was a story behind each curated section. I am not going to complain because the museum was free and open to the public. --Service/Staff-- I only one employee which was running the front desk and was a bit rude upon asking for directions, but don't let one employee ruin my whole experience. This is great for naval history and to see many of its legacy and it impact on modern warfare. --Products-- A museum without an entrance fee, this is a must stop even for not naval fans. This display in the building show and inspires us with its naval maritime experience. --Overall-- Recommended for any naval fan and people who have navy personnel in their family, be warned the collection does not compete with its neighboring memorial, but still worth a visit.

The airline put us in a nasty hotel about 20 minutes outside Alexandria but a friend alerted us that Old Town Alexandria was beautiful, historic, and a don't-miss. My husband and I and our five kids in tow ubered with all our luggage to Old Town and popped into the Visitor's Center. I begged to leave our bags with them so we could tour around. It isn't something they are used to doing but gladly helped us with the request and locked our bags safely away. Barbara came out from the back and asked if she could take us around on a one-hour tour. Best decision we made. What an amazing town! The people who work at the Visitor's Center were so sweet, kind, considerate and helpful and what could have been a chaotic and hectic day from our unexpected flight cancelation turned into a historic and memorable time for our family. Thank you Visitor's Center of Old Town Alexandria! Be sure to visit them and TAKE THEIR TOUR!
