We have been using this laundromat for several months, but we won't be going back until it's time to wash the comforter again.
They have been through several employees in the last couple of months, each getting worse than the one before.
Note: People, if you don't enjoy working with the public, don't work in an industry that requires you to interact with the public on a constant basis!
They do try to keep the business relatively clean, which can be difficult when dealing with today's sloppy people. But they don't even try to ask people to control their children. Be prepared to have small to pre-teen kids running around and screaming.
They keep the restrooms locked, you have to ask the attendant for the key to use them. Not bad, unless you can't find the attendant.
All of the above, I guess, is part of having a business in which employees have to keep up with messy & rude customers. However, what I do find unacceptable is the fact that they have gotten into the habit of locking the front door during business hours (illegal), just to keep people from coming in to start new loads after the cutoff time (8 pm), instead of staying near the front door and telling people that they are not letting new loads get started. They are starting end-of-day cleaning procedures 2 hours before closing time, and even turning off the tv's at 8:30 when they don't close, officially, until 10 pm.
Last Friday, Dec. 5th, we got there at 7:55 pm, just in time to start our laundry. Washers take about 33 minutes to complete the cycle if you don't opt for extras (extra rinse or heavy soil). So, our wash was done at about 8:30. The whole time the washers were going, the attendant was turning off the back pair of tv's, cleaning washers, and running back and forth to unlock and relock the front doors for people to come back in to collect their finished laundry. (There's a thrift store next door, a lot of people go browse while their clothes are drying.) One lady had washed sheets & a blanket, and had to wait for the attendant to come unlock the door for her, when she just pulled her things from the dryer & walked toward the door, the attendant asked if she was going to fold her things, the lady said, "no," and left. The attendant just didn't get it. When all the other customers besides myself & my husband were gone, the attendant turned off the rest of the tv's and continued cleaning. We were feeling decidedly uncomfortable, so when our washers were done, we just dumped our wet laundry into our laundry bag and started toward the door. She asked us if we were going to dry our things, we said that we weren't. She asked why, we told her the truth about how uncomfortable we were with the whole situation, including the locked doors. She said that the manager told her to keep the doors locked after 8 pm. I pointed out the sign at the top of the door that says,"These doors to remain unlocked during business hours." She said that we were welcome to dry our things, that the business didn't officially close until 10 pm. I asked her why, then, she was getting everything ready to close at 8:30, including locking the doors. She said that's what she was told to do. We had been the last customers of the night before, with a different attendant, who didn't turn off the tv's until we left at 9:15, but she left right
after us.
I know how it is to have to work late into the evening. I have 25 years of retail under my belt, and a lot of those years were closing. I know how eager a person is to leave at the end of the day. But you can't just go about business this way. Locking main doors while you have customers is illegal, and beginning closing procedures while you have customers is plain rude. I know, doing laundry that late in the evening is confounding to some, but remember, some people work second, and even third shifts. We work second, with Fridays off, so 8 pm is just after lunch for us. Needless to say, we won't be going back to New Spin on Laundry any time soon. We will deal with the tiny & hot laundry room at our apartment complex. They just gave us 24-hour access, so I can go do laundry in the middle of the night, which is my evening, when no one else is there. read more
