Then when my second plate was bright out the waitress tipped it and the boiling juice went on my leg and my daughter's leg. Burning my leg and hers. Waited for 15 minutes to get a drink. Very disappointed tonight. Our Chef, that we were excited, to have entertain us did little to nothing. He left the vegetables in the corner of the grill for twenty minutes before moving them to cook and serve much much later than the protein and rice. I had my hungry teenage nephew with me and there was two other couples that we did not know seated with us.....the chef served everyone before my nephew and literally gave him less than half a portion. He is as big as a man, standing over 6'2"! The other people looked at his portion and spoke on the discrepancy as well! I typically visit this restaurant about 5-6 times a year, maybe more. They recently changed ownership, but I can hardly tell as difference. If there's any difference at all, they now have more fluent wait staff that may make it easier for timid merchants to stop by and actually give it a chance. The menu looks the same to me. I still can order my favorite three items. I love the Boston Bay Roll. It's so good, especially with the sauce they top it with. I can also house a good amount of their edamame. I think if you're looking for a down side, I'd say depending on the time you go on a Friday or Saturday night, you may have to wait. The other down side I have faced there was the fact that if you only want broccoli in your hibachi meal, instead of all veggies, you actually pay extra for just broccoli. Kind of funny? i'm seeing a LOT of reviews yapping on about how bad this place is... are y'all forgetting that this is a hibachi place in a rundown mall with around 5 stores left open? the food is mediocre.. lots of options but lots and lots of garlic (but hey, im into that!!) if you order any of the hibachi meals. the language barrier between staff can occasionally make them seem rude but it's simply the tone difference (if you're an adult toddler who wants to cry about that, ask for a different staff member. there are usually one or two who only speak english.) the sushi chef is quiet, respectful, and talented. he may put a little bit of his own spin on some of the rolls, changing the traditional dish, but he has never failed me yet!! read more

This place used to be great. I'm afraid they've fallen victim to the first axiom of restaurants, it takes money to make money. They appear to me to be cutting corners to reduce cost . This just reduces the overall customer experience and puts them in a death spiral. I would no longer recommend eating here. The service is slow, the place appears dirty, and the food is meh. Sushi was okay, but the food was not that great. We ordered some sushi rolls and hibachi lunch plates. The hibachi lunch is a good portion for the price, but the taste isn't there. The fried rice is the worst I've ever had they put way too much black pepper in it, and I think they used basmati rice instead. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND GO AT LUNCH WHEN THERE IS A CHEAPER OPTION. FOOD IN HIBACHI: It is awesome, big portions, done well, and I highly recommend asking the chef for two white sauces. He'll oblige and you'll enjoy it. I usually ask for refills on them later. Eating with others may be weird to you - if so sit in the other side and be anti-social. SUSHI: Somewhat small but the Volcano, Friends, California, and Eel Avocado rolls are great. STAFF: The American hostess with big blue eyes and a great smile is a warm welcoming. 3/4 other staff being foreign are hit and miss. They can be testy at times, miscalculate which table gets a chef next, etc. Keep calm. it's worth the wait. In terms of tipping: TIP THE PLACE. DON'T BE A TIGHT WAD. It's not an all-you-can-eat where you can get away with $1 tip. I'd chase you too if you left me a dollar. PRICE: I usually spend $25 a meal here. I get the chicken, extra rice, and a roll. Sue me. Update 12/20/2018: Have been back several times since the change of ownership almost a year ago, and sad to say it has declined since then. There's an odd smell as soon as you walk in, that continues into the dining area. The small plates used for sushi/appetizers are plastic, pink with hearts, and say Galentine's Day on them, and are used year round. Special rolls aren't coming out as described on the menu, such as the Green Phoenix is now served with spicy mayo, & no roe. Overall, the experience feels cheapened, and kind of dingy. Will probably give them another try in a few months to see if anything has improved. We have been going to Wasabi since it opened over 10 years ago, & in the hundreds of visits only a handful have been off, usually do to new wait staff, not the food! We usually choose to sit at the regular tables (not hibachi), but you are able to order from the hibachi menu, which is nice if you're in a hurry or just not up for the presentation. Our favorite appetizer is the pork gyoza, and the Green Phoenix roll (spicy tuna rolled in avocado & topped with roe & a vinegar cream dressing). First, the food was AWFUL. Too much salt and too much grease. It was 70's style Cooking - people eat "cleaner" these days. I had to stop eating as my heart started to race from the salt and I don't have heart problems. It also isn't the cleanest - there were 3 dirty brooms parked in front of our table and the hibachi had food leftover In the discard tray but the chef was lifting from the discard tray-new food and old back on the grill. Ordered 3 Hibachi side orders, and they all came on one plate even though it's separate items. Problem is one of the items was steak and 2 vegetarian items, and I am a vegetarian. So it was mixed together. When I asked to have them made separately the waiter argued with me saying I should have told them to put them on separate plates. Then the person walks away and I assume this was the manager that came back and argued with me as well, until I had to fully explain the vegetarian situation. Long story short got insane amount of rudeness for a mistake on their end, and they didn't apologize for the mistake or try to make it right. Rude, and choppy service. This was not an enjoyable experience. We ordered hibachi chicken, vegetable tempura, and aged tofu. As we were waiting for our food, a cockroach was crawling on the table and I leapt out of my seat. I refused to stay at that booth and insisted on changing tables. The whole time we were eating, I was just so paranoid that another cockroach would appear. The hibachi chicken and the vegetable tempura were okay. We couldn't even finish the aged tofu because it was barely cooked/solid and just fell out of the batter. This place is the worst restaurant I have been to!!!! Please avoid!!!! First of all, the bathrooms are DISGUSTING! They don't clean their toilets, floors or sinks! Paper towels on the floor! Secondly, the manager accused my friends of not paying the bill and giving a tip (If we were Caucasian, I'm sure we would have a different experience). And then, when she realized she made the mistake she didn't apologize. The food was bland and the servers were okay. I have to say, after changing the owner, the new Wasabi Steakhouse offers fresher and energetic food then before. My husband and I ordered sushi and sashimi boat for two and we got more than enough food for both of us. Sashimi wasn't the melt in your mouth kind, but it was a taste sensation and celebration. This is a tough one to review - the good is quite good and the bad quite bad. I grew up in the area and when I go back to visit, my wife and I have made it a point to stop and eat at Wasabi, as it is perhaps the best Asian food in the area. The decor is very nice and projects a fairly romantic atmosphere. My wife and I have only eaten sushi and appetizers, but they have all been well-prepared and flavorful. Some are good and some are great, but we haven't been disappointed with the taste of any. I do think the rolls are a little on the small side; the special maki are about the size of most other restaurants regular rolls. Still, they are quite tasty and well-balanced. The major problem is the service (or lack thereof). Unless one is eating at the hibachi grill, it is quite difficult to get the attention of the waitresses. Most recently we had service that was pretty much the absolute least one could do and actually serve food; it was so bad my wife refused to use a credit card to play and I actually left the dreaded three pennies as a tip (not that anyone knows about that anymore). As this lack of service seems to be endemic (the last three times we've eaten there over the past two years), I doubt we will return, which is a shame, since the food is actually pretty good. If I were rating just the food, I would give it a 3.5-4, but the service really, really drags it down. What could be a great restaurant gets relegated to 'meh' by unmotivated employees. read more

But I wasn't expecting much since this place is attached to the mall. The food isn't terrible at all. It hits the spot and fills the crave for some Asian food. My rating here is due to there not being anything that stood out with the food. The two sauces weren't all too good either. I got chicken and shrimp hibachi and both were cooked very well. But nothing stood in taste or service/experience. I know it's the smaller town factor, but I wish I didn't have to ask for chopsticks. Both times I've been there I haven't been impressed with the service, but it wasn't terrible either. Definitely didn't get hassled about a tip. I love this place! The food is always great - their fried rice is some of the best I've had anywhere, and their sushi is great too. I've tried several of the specialty rolls, and I've never been disappointed. Prices are reasonable for this type of restaurant as well. WARNING: Be careful paying here!! You may end up with a bill for $10.50 pay with $21.00 and receive NO CHANGE back. Only to be told when confronting the waitress "that was tip TIP!". This has happened numerous times, not only to me but to my friends and family. Not only that, but if you walk up to pay with a card you may be confronted with yelling "you tip YOU TIP! The service is very poor and it always leads me to believe that the wait staff are there against their will! It almost feels like the staff absolutely hates their customers and only puts up with them to get a dollar. We left a low tip one time because of the poor service and the waitress was visibly upset and showed the owner what her tip was...she actually came back to our table and asked why we didn't give her a better tip, I told her that she should try smiling and at least act like she gives a crap. this was a very negative experience. our waitress came to our table as soon as we sat down and asked what we wanted before we could ever open our menus and when we said we weren't ready she just turned and walked away then she came back maybe a minute later and asked us again and we rushingly gave our order and she grabbed the menus out of hands. She then came back with our soup and salad and slammed them down on the table. We got our food and when I tried to get our waitresses attention for more yum yum sauce she looked right at me and walked away. When she did come back to our table and I asked for yum yum sauce she gave me back a tiny to go portion halfway filled. They had so many workers with nothing to do they were taking our plates and bowls away before we barely took our last bite of food. Our waitress stood and basically watched us eat our entire meal and we were basically rushed in and rushed out. Overall the food portions were very small (our sushi only had 6 pieces and most places when you order "special" rolls give you 12) the hibachi portions were small and it was over priced for the amount that we got. But when I do ever come back up here this is where I'll eat with Banana Leaf. Never had the hibachi because of the price and based off observing obviously better Japanese hibachis in the rest of Maryland, not going to waste my college broke self.
