At first glance this place is beyond amazing! Initially when my family and I was touring the place the staff said all of the right things. The place is gorgeous and modern. However that faded really fast. After my dad was admitted and he received a room his care started to slowly fade. If he pushes the nurses button sometimes it takes 45 minutes to and hour for a response. I know nothing is perfect but it's scary to wait so long, because what if he really needs emergency care? Although, the nurses casually discuss how they don't like their jobs I can still see hope in this place. I hope this is just a weird week. I know that we all have bad days. read more

Serious concerns regarding cleanliness and basic patient care. I visited my aunt here regularly, mostly during the evening hours, and frequently observed a concerning lack of proper care. It was often clear from the odor that she was not being changed or cleaned on a regular schedule, which, unfortunately, resulted in her developing painful sores. To get her basic needs met, I often had to actively hunt down the nursing staff to request diaper changes. While a few individual nurses truly went above and beyond and showed genuine compassion, the overall systemic issues are hard to ignore. Beyond the care deficits, the patient rooms rarely seemed properly cleaned or disinfected, creating an unsanitary environment. I strongly advise any family considering this facility to do extensive research, check state inspection reports, and speak directly with current patients' families before placing a loved one here. read more

Lied to me about of moving to another. Told me maintenance had to fix something so I couldn't be in my room. We'll the next day there was a India couple in the room. We'll the administrator KATE LIED TO ME. THE SOCIAL WORKER HAS LIED ALSO. Well early this morning (2:30am) we had a thunderstorm. We'll electricity went out. I have a LVD to keep me alive and have to change from power to battery, We'll of course no body on this shift had any idea how to do it. No lights so it was hard to change it over. It's a challenge to describe all the failures of this institution. One would presume that physical therapy can be obtained from several facilities. That feature should not lead to WBGC. A friend was confined for a number of weeks. He needed assistance to get to the restroom or use the bedpan. At night, the message light was practically meaningless. Having an urgent need, a response might come hours later. On occasion, an aide would say they were taking a break and walk away from the request for assistance. There was no valuable input (diagnosis) from doctors. Requests for information were ignored. On one occasion, visiting, I saw an employee wearing a hoodie. It's script? IDK - IDC - IDGF. There is little to no support for anyone of limited mobility (like me due to an injury) which translates into very limited basic personal hygiene like face washing and toothbrushing, not to mention bathing and linen changing. The use of diapers and external catheters is very prevalent to accommodate the lack of nursing staff. Long waits for response to call buttons leaves patients in soiled diapers for extended periods of time. Staff frequently respond with frustration like the call or request is an imposition. The rehab team was terrific and survives in spite of the lack of nursing care and reinforcement. And, as in most situations there were a few terrific CNAs who cared and went above and beyond. I was finally able to get relocated to a great facility. read more

It's hard to believe how bad this place is. The front desk, multiple times, has said, "oh, I'm filling in here, I'm not sure how to transfer to a room". My Mom's phone also had issues, I had to make a quick payment to activate her phone. Tried to call her room and she wasn't answering. I called the front desk and said my Mom isn't answering her phone, can you deliver a personal message? No call later in the day, so I call back. Same girl at the desk says "OH YEAH, I tried to call her to tell her and she didn't pick up her phone." lol, and I guess that's where it dropped. They have no wherewithal nor feel any responsibility to make sure the message gets through. She can't even freaking call up to her floor to have the nurse get her a personal message? WTF?? The minimal service, or lack there of, is evident in this example, but it prevades every aspect of this place. They don't listen, they are unqualified and uncaring. They don't listen to my Mom's needs either. There for 4 days and Mom says nobody has really done ANY physical therapy with her. No hair combing her head is full of knots. I now see why Warren Barr has over 200 bad reviews. My Mother In law was sitting in her own urine for hours. I stopped in for a visit and found her catheter was not connected. I pressed the call button, a person popped their head in, and said she would be back. Never returned. I had to go to the front desk to complain to get some help. My mother in law told me when she rings for assistance, it's a 50/50 if anyone shows up. Is it time for the Department of Elderly Affairs to get involved for a thorough investigation? A relative was here for rehabilitation. After several weeks at this facility, she complained about the cold food and the same thing being served every day. They also only did rehab once a day on weekdays for her and never helped her get up after that time of day or on weekends. She would sit in the bed the rest of the time. Needless to say that when Medicare stopped paying she was not ready to go back to her home. She was released and ended up falling several times on her own. I also tried calling her case manager before she was released to discuss this and never received a call back from her. I called her multiple times and even spoke with her boss. so.... to preface: I had a hip replaced, and we anticipated a complicated recovery, because of other medical conditions. So I went with 'sub-acute care' at Warren Barr. In hindsight, I would have been fine to go home. I might have recovered faster at home. I sure as hell would have eaten better. OMG. And I wouldn't have gotten covid. The covid was the worst of it. My case was mild, but damn, getting it at all, and being stuck there for a week, was just bad. I ended up spending an extra week there. I decided to subsist on Uber Eats for that week, because I couldn't deal with gagging every time I tried to eat. Not cheap. I complained and got thoughtful, 'yeah we hear that a lot' responses. Not that anyone would actually do anything about it, just, yes, we know the food is terrible here, and we feel bad about it. Which I didn't really have a lot of use for. They never complained about running downstairs to get my orders, though. They understood my situation. I shared rooms with two other guys, both of whom were zonked out on Oxy, with a weak relationship with the time of day, and a desire to have the TV on twenty-four hours. There were no institutional 'quiet hours,' so I went a couple weeks without a decent night's sleep. One CNA told me 'he wants his TV on, deal with it,' at 4 in the morning. Once I managed to get in communication with my roommates, they were fine with turning the TV down, which was better, but not really what I needed. And I'm gonna have the theme to Hogan's Heroes playing in my head for a while. The staff was something like 80% excellent. Most of them were helpful, professional, responsive, and thorough. The PT and OT was generally as good as that is, though in my experience, PT and OT aren't usually challenging enough to make an evident difference. That's more my problem with PT in general than their service. I got there on a Thursday and didn't get any real PT til the following Monday, and I was healing before and after we started. They could be bureaucratic. I arrived needing the toenails clipped, badly, on the foot on the same side as the hip I got replaced. They were like 'the podiatrist comes Mondays.' When I do it myself, I just get the damn clippers. I spent almost three weeks there, and they're still not clipped. And I legit cannot do them myself now. The other 20% were mostly CNAs I think? Lower paid, not happy to be there, some seemed unfamiliar with things. Not great attitudes, though I'm not sure my attitude would be much better in their shoes. So.... I dunno. I felt like I was in the wrong place most of the time. For someone who was in a lot worse shape than me, maybe it would be more positive and useful? Maybe if you're on stronger painkillers than I was it's a better experience? There are a lot of good people working here, and I want to respect their work. But I just had such an awful experience. read more

This place is hell please don't send your family member here the first night my mother arrived. Her CNA smelled like marijuana. I called her out on it and she blamed it on a coworker. The next night. She had the same CNA and smelled like marijuana again I brought it to the administrative attention and the young lady still has her job there. The next night, Madison gave me an attitude and told me to take it up with administrative to hire more people. They left my mother in diapers for seven hours. She left North Northwestern hospital with no rashes. She goes there and she has rashes all over her behind and her inner thigh I had to write instructions and tape on the wall because my mother is on a feeding tube and they are supposed to stop the feeding to when they lay her down to change her and they never do. I have to get up and do it myself when I'm there God knows when I'm not there if they do it. Then I also said my mother needs to be washed with the washcloth and soap and Madison had the nerve to say well who okayed it. I said I did. She's like well. How do you know it's not from the pampers I said I don't know. I want my mother washed with a washcloth and soap. She's like what did you get an allergy test to say that it was the wipes? I said I didn't know that I needed to get an allergy test and prove it to you. I said I want her washed with a washcloth and soap and she says well I guess I have no choice. Then I asked to speak to her supervisor and when I addressed it to the supervisor, she laughed about it and said oh that's Madison for you that's how she is. There's a lobby there by the elevators where they bring out the elderly to sit around and hang out and there was this little old lady and she needed to go to the bathroom really bad and it was hurting her where she almost cried, and they were neglecting her even a physical therapist brought it to a CNA's attention and they did nothing. I wanted to take her myself some of the nurses don't know what they're doing especially Jenny. She gives you an attitude. She's very lazy. She was put in medication in my mother's peg her feeding tube and she didn't clamp it right and some of it poured out and she just left it on her and didn't even clean her up. The place is dirty. My mother had a roommate and the elderly lady didn't want a male CNA so it took almost 4 hours for a female to come in and when they did get the female, she started arguing with the nurse in front of the elderly ladies's daughter-in-law and the nurse had to change her because the CNA walked off. The day they left my mother and pampers for seven hours the CNA's had switched her regular CNA came in at 3 o'clock to do the vitals then I didn't see anybody for four hours and when I rang her bell, the nurse came in and I said my mother has not been changed since 12 o'clock and she said OMG she grabbed the CNA and I guess that was my mother CNA when she walked in the room. I said you're not my mother CNA she says yes I am. We switched. She never came to introduce herself or check on my mother when her and my mother's original CNA switch there was no communication there. This place is horrible and I'm surprised it's not shut down, they don't get their act together. They're going to run into somebody that's not as nice as I am and it's going to get them shut down or in very very big trouble. Also, my mother had to go back to Northwestern because she was severely dehydrated. They gave her a UTI the day before she went back. The nurses were trying to put a catheter in her and it took four nurses and two different times and they couldn't get it in. It took a while and I know that caused The UTI and she also had a little pneumonia, but thank God Northwestern took care of it. Social worker was lovely. Dismally understaffed; my family member waited up to an hour for someone to respond to her call button. Food was inedible; worse than grade school cafeteria food. While there my family member developed C. diff -- it's extremely contagious but I would see staff members wipe surfaces down with communal rags that then went on the cart to contaminate everything else. That was when they cleaned the room; sometime there would be debris on the floor for several days in a row. Horrendous diaper rash that cleared up once she was home and being changed regularly. PT was sometimes good and more often MIA; doctor was condescending once I actually got hold of him. You'd think with the location it would be better. read more

So poorly managed. I just can't. We had a relative there and given the location, you'd think it would provide adequate if not, superior service. No. From the handful of times I've visited... 1) rooms are disgustingly dirty. Not sure how this is even helpful to the many sick there 2) Short staffed problem. The nurses that actually do their job are working long hour shifts and short staffed. I had to help a few times when I was there 3) food is terrible and if your loved one even gets half of what they ordered. Remember some of these patients can't even speak up. Unfortunately, some staff are taking advantage of that. Be sure to check what you're paying for versus what they're actually getting. Every time I visited it was depressing, gross and miserable. After talking with a few friends at my disappointment in this establishment, I've heard similar stories. Seems like a business just taking advantage of sick patients. the staff is about and nice, and attentive, but understaffed. this is the second time my mom went to WB:GC the first time was great. this time however WB:GC really dropped the ball. she went in with physical rehab in mind to get her back on her feet with a walking aid. A day or 2 before release, she had a gout episode, and upon release did NOTHING to treat it. and released her back to her home. if anything was done i havnt heard about it. today i recieve a call from her that she wet herself, cant stand. and is going back to the ER. you should not be released from rehab in a diminishing state like this. i would not be mad if they had transferred her to a hospital cause gout GETS WORSE if not treated. i would know as i have gout too. i will update this review if i find new facts or errors in my review read more

Beautiful Lobby area and friendly/caring staff. Greeted us when we arrived in the lobby and we were met by a friendly face in the room. The following morning we were greated by a group of individuals being lead by a member of administration to check on our first night. We were followed up with daily/ weekly after that. The attention to patient satisfaction is unmeasured and the professionalism by every member of administration is great. My wife recently left this establishment. I am so pleased she agreed to move after almost a 2 year stay. We world give this place a negative rating of -10 if we could. Our concerns start with the management of the facility. When she would contact the office she would be informed that someone would contact her later that day. Sometimes they would and other times they didn't. When they did respond frequently they would state they would research her concerns and never responded and the concerns continued. A major concern that I had was the telephone service. One extended weekend one could not call in or out of the establishment. This initial problem lasted four days. It was repeated several times over three months. Calls to the main number were also not answered. When one finally got through one was frequently not given any satisfaction. One of her major concerns was other residents screaming, yelling and disturbing other residents starting around 3 AM. Complaints to the on duty staff were typically ignored and management never got involved. It appears that they lodged patients with dementia issues with those with mobility issues. She also had concerns relating to the meals offered. Food was frequently served cold and was frequently unappetizing. During the Covid outbreak the facility was almost completely locked down. When visiting was allowed they frequently closed unexpectedly. read more

Updating my review of WB Gold Coast,.... Even after the Executive Director called me -probably because of my low rating assessment of this place - i'm going to give it no stars now. My mother is going to be released from there soon. I've had relatives and friends go over to visit her. And in each photo that they have taken this last week not one of them showed her hair having ever been brushed or combed! Her hair is all over her head! It only takes a few minutes to brush somebody's hair, to actually show like you care, especially if they have company in the room. it's pretty sad that they left her looking that way. It's junot just because they're just busy. It's because they don't care. Sept 4th My mother arrived with my cousin, and I didn't recognize her! Her teeth are protruding out of her mouth. Her hair is all over her head. She has a huge matted tangle of hair in the back of her head as if her hair had not been combed in months! And she can't walk at all. She went to Warren Barr, Gold Coast for rehab and she cannot walk at all! She had a huge bruise on her right big toe like something had been dropped on it. But my mother can't feel that because she has neuropathy in both feet. I thought dandruff was falling all over the little sweatsuit. My cousin purchased her because they were flakes everywhere. But then I realized it wasn't her hair, although clearly her hair had not been shampooed nor brushed, nor combed. The flakes while the flaking was her skin. It was just peeling off of her because Warren Barr Gold Coast they may have showered her or just wiped her down, but they never put any kind of moisturizer or oil or lotion on her skin for the full 6 to 8 weeks she was there! Who cares so little for the elderly? Now she just is achy and moans all the time! I am going to consult an elderly care attorney. read more

I have been visiting my aunt daily for the past month and I remain Impressed with the genuine services being provided. The clinical care and therapy services continue to impress me. After one month of being here, I am excited to see how far she has come and how much further she will get. I am also very satisfied with administration. I'd like to give negative stars. This place is a nightmare ! The nursing staff lies. They literally were on the phone with me saying my mother was doing better while she was on the phone with my father crying that they are ignoring her. Everything concerning her got worse while she was there. They do NOT have a full time doctor. The doctor says be only goes when he gets called by nursing. Who are useless an incompetent. One nurse thought 97.8 was a HIGH FEVER. Or the difference between low white blood cell count & high count. Or if an infection was a UTI or infected surgery incision. They can't pronounce the medications they give. They can barely speak on phone without "uhm er uh" 4 times between EVERY WORD. If they knew what they were talking about, it wouldn't be that hard to read a chart. They promised daily video visits. In 2 weeks we got 3. The 3rd was only after her first social worker left the job permanently and a say earlier than she said and was replaced by her boss. They tried to put a MALE patient in with her when she was CONTRACTED to be in a PRIVATE ROOM. This hellhole should be SHUT DOWN. The pictures are nothing more than a polished turd Update... after transferring her EMERGENCY ROOM she is doing better. Since she is actually getting attention. Including treatment for EXTREME MALNUTRITION. They don't even feed the patients properly. DO NOT EVER ALLOW ANY DOCTOR OR NURSE TO RECOMMEND THIS DISASTER. THE EMERGENCY ROOM STAFF AT NORTHWESTERN SAY IT IS THE WORST PLACE IN THE CITY AND ANYONE RECOMMENDING IT MUST BE GETTING BRIBED TO DO IT Interesting how an employee finds patient neglect funny. The staff at Gold Coast are very friendly and truly care about their patients. I have been visiting my grandpa for over a year and the staff take very good care of him. Agency CNAs leaving their masks under their noses, even though they are face to face with unmasked elderly patients). Docs waiting THREE days to give my dad antibiotics for a UTI, my dad's stupid, unnecessary fall due to CNAs not following toilet protocol (forcing my dad to walk to the toilet with a walker instead of honoring his request to take him in his wheelchair), and more. I AM WORKING SO HARD TO PICK UP THE SLACK the staff here at WARREN BARR can't handle. Basic customer service and human decency are not even considered here. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Since my father checked in on Thursday, we've had to fight for an Oxygen concentrator (despite that they had several weeks to arrange for one). The RNs and LPN Ramon were disrespectful, unprofessional and just gross people. i.e. Manual fought with me for five minutes about why he should not have to wear gloves to touch my dad's hands. Despite investing hours, talking with administrators about my dad's physical capabilities (he needs a wheelchair to get to the bathroom). The bumbling CNAs denied his request to please be brought to the bathroom with a wheelchair. So of course he fell, and the head of the CNAs, Karen's response, "You think we have the time to transfer every patient to a wheelchair to take them to the bathroom?" Do not under any circumstances consider this facility for anyone you care about. One look around and you can tell this place is filthy and the "food" looks like it was scraped from the bottom of a toilet dumpster. After I read ALL the reviews everything is TRUE and I regret putting my father in this place. Location is great and lobby area is beautiful however do not put your love one in this facility. My father has been there since March 2020 and he has complained about the food & staff. My father social worker Vanessa do not return calls and she does not have my fathers best interest at heart. The social worker prior to her was awesome and communicated with me on the regular! I'm not able to visit my father and residence are ALWAYS on lockdown as if they're in prison. I would give this place a big fat zero if I could. I was a patient there this past February. I was transferred there because I needed to go to a "step-down rehab facility." That's code for "nursing home." I was there for a whopping 10 days before my husband was able to spring me from that hellhole. Not only was the staff rude and incompetent, the food was inedible and the administrative staff was AWOL. I caught Covid within three days of being there. I had managed to go three years without catching it and then BAM! I was in the Covid Ward. No one checked on me or asked about my symptoms. I was bedridden and couldn't go to the bathroom on my own, so they helped me use a bedpan. Until they didn't. I had several accidents yet, no one helped me. I once waited over two hours for someone to come help me. Not only is it disgusting, but it's unsanitary. I begged my husband to let me come home because it was so atrocious. I finally left after 10 days. The whole place is filthy and the staff is terrible (as well as the food). If you are thinking of putting a loved one there, DON'T. The nurses, doctors, and therapists really seemed to care if I got well or not. I cannot give them enough praise for the level of care I received. Someone that I know stayed here for a 2-3 week stint, This person is over 70 and has had health problems and was recovering here. This visit included rehab. I visited him here 2 times. His experience with the staff was great. For those visiting, they had a concierge. The parking situation was good. His rehab went very well. My friend was a bog fan of the therapy dept. Only issue is there are just 2 elevators. It could take 5 minutes to get an elevator. Great location and great staff that is attentive to every detail read more

Very upset that my mother loved this facility when she fell and had rehab! She now had a stroke and against my better judgement we let her decide where to go. She is paralyzed on her left side and the 1st day in the rehab she FELL out of bed and here we are a couple of weeks later and another fall! I asked why wasn't there rails put up? The alarm didn't go off? Or wasn't even put on her or the bed like promised, the neighbor had to call the nurse the second time to get her off the ground! The hospital has rails. Like are you kidding me they are against the law! She is paralyzed and can only move her right side. Something isn't right and I am beyond pissed. CAN'T VISIT OR SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO HER.
