When…read moreit came to long term care, for my now 96 year old Mother (who is also my best friend), there was not even a question as to what the choice would be. From our side and from hers. Citadel of Wilmette!!! We were referred to Citadel by Evanston Hospital and her primary physician for rehab following a very serious fall last year at 95 for which she was hospitalized.The rehab and the staff at Citadel is beyond anything one could imagine. Personal, lovely, exceptional in their knowledge and care. She was successfully rehabbed and we brought her home, but she was so sad to go. Shortly there after, she suffered another fall for which she broke her hip and again was hospitalized and chose Citadel for her rehab facility. Again, same experience and she was greeted back with open arms and hugs and a determination and willingness to get her successfully rehabbed again. Within a few weeks, she was ready again to walk and rehab was successful. But what was clear now for us as a family, and for my Mother, was that going home and living independently now would no longer be an option. We faced the fact that long term care was now a fact and that living on her own would be fatally unsafe. Knowing the answer ourselves as a family that Citadel was the #1 choice for long term care, we asked our Mother where SHE wanted to be for her long term care. She said HERE of course with all of my "friends". You see, she does not call the staff her caregivers, they are all her "friends". In my life, I have never seen a nursing home or hospital or actually ANY staff as happy, joyful, caring, patient, diligent, smart, safer and loving as the staff at Citadel of Wilmette. I am almost crying while writing this, because my heart is so abundant with love and thanks for this incredible facility and staff for making my Mother in these twilight years SO happy and cared for, safe and feeling like she is at home. Mary, my Mother calls Citadel her home and we as a family do too. The location of Citadel is outstanding as when we visit we can enjoy the fireplace and bird room with her and take her for wonderful outings in the town of Wilmette and neighboring villages. And when I work in Los Angeles, which is often, I can FINALLY rest my head on the pillow at night knowing my Mother is safe and so very, happy. The facility is extremely clean and modern and upkeep is outstanding. The KIND, LOVING, JOYFUL, HAPPY, PATIENT AND EXTRAORDINARY staff is like nothing I have ever seen before and their long term care and their rehab is the BEST you will ever get. Thank you Citadel for the joy you bring our Mother. She loves you ALL and as I say, calls you her FRIENDS. Because you ARE. 10 STARS!! My dad rehabbed here once and returned a year later to live. They are attentive and caring…read more Having seen my inlaws in two different nursing homes, I have a basis of comparison. The residents here are treated as human beings and not just left in bed. There are activities, a cafeteria for meals. In the cafeteria, the residents are matched so that relationships can form. Roommates are matched for compatibility. (My dad and his roommate are so courteous to each other that neither goes into the bathroom unless he has checked to see if the other one needs to go first). We had heard good things about this residence and it has proven to be everything we had hoped for for our father. There has never been a time when we, as his family, has reached out to staff, that we have not had thorough and meaningful communications about my father - from the CNAs to the chief administrator.

Ask them what the ratio of employees are per amount of patients, then you understand ... They are understaffed and the general staff is undereducated. Make sure you are visiting several times before signing up. Take part in activities (if they happen as posted). Take part of dinners etc. at the memory care unit, not the restaurant. I could write a lot of details of what was utterly missing before I removed my husband from this place that looks so great on the facade. It could be such a wonderful place if it had the right caring leadership.

The nurses and CNA took fabulous care of my mother-in-law. They did not hesitate to call the doctor or a family member if any concerns or issues arose. They kept us informed and worked with our family to provide the best care possible. Our questions were answered in a timely manner. The admissions and social work staff went above and beyond to assist us. The physical/occupational therapists put great effort into the therapy provided to my mother-in-law to keep her mobile. The facility is clean and the food service excellent. The entire team at Wesley Place put great effort and care into their jobs. Their smiling faces and giving hearts created a home away from home for her time at Wesley Place. They not only cared for her medical needs but kept her spirit healthy, enriched her life and supported our family. Thank you Wesley Place!

I was unfortunate enough to be hit by a car while bicycling. After surgery I went to Wesley Place…read morefor rehab and stayed two weeks. I regret stepping foot in this place. Every nurse and CNA was friendly and more than competent, however medications were often given late and most of the time it took more than 20 minutes for somebody to answer the call button. This was not due to laziness of the staff, but due to intentional understaffing. I was at Wesley to receive physical therapy. I had a horrible therapist who threatened not to give me therapy. I left messages three days in a row to the head of therapy and now, three weeks later I have yet to receive a call back. I also called the administrator three days in a row and then once 7 days later, and am still waiting for a return call. If the head of the main department for skilled nursing cannot take the time to call a patient in the facility, and the administrator cannot either, nobody should ever stay in this place. Let me conclude on a positive note. My problems were resolved by the social worker, Sarah, who took her job to heart and treated everybody lovingly and with great care and attention to detail. She deserves to work at a place that appreciates her and its patients, so if anybody needs an amazing social work, call Sarah. You won't do much better.
