I was visiting family down in this part of the country for the past week and during one of our…read moreadventures together we passed by the old Myrtle Beach Train Depot. This railway station has not been in public service since the 1950's I was told but the building still stands and on the nearby rails stand both a decommissioned box car and caboose. Neither of these is open for public exploration inside but the train depot building itself is. Inside the small facility are numerous photographs from across the stations history and a few related relics. There is a time capsule as well which was sealed in May of 2004 and is set to be opened in May of 2054. In the rear of the station which probably originally served as the waiting room area and some office space is a publicly accessible room but I did not go into it as there was a family function happening at the time. My guess is that they rent this room out and let people bring in catered fare. You can stand on the place where the platform used to let passengers on and off but mind your step and the same can be said for the tracks. The two cars can be posed in front of by I discourage climbing on them as all for the sake of your own safety. I was glad we chanced upon this since the photos will make for good blogging and Instagram material.

It continued this way until 2011 when the rail line was shut down by federal authorities due to other bridges in the vicinity that were unsafe. Today, this drawbridge stands permanently raised and happy to see you as you pass across into Myrtle Beach (if your bridge raising lasts more than four hours...). Perhaps one day it will be fully restored and rail traffic will flow into Myrtle Beach again. Probably not. Until then, stop by and check it out. It's truly an Americana town with so much history dating as far back to the 1732 British settlement. We took a lovely stroll on the Riverwalk and soaked in the scenery. Saw many different types of boats coming thru on the water as the trailhead is right there. Boaters can even dock, do lunch or simply just walk around town. Few people were fishing, and many families were enjoying the fully fenced in playground. A local hot spot right on the edge of the riverwalk is a place called Chanti's Pizza, it's a popular local restaurant that caters to many homeowners, as well as great reviews by numerous visitors that come to town too! Would be a perfect place to dine if spending some time here and wanting to have lunch or dinner on the water. It's truly an iconic boardwalk trail (approximately 1.5-mile of a scenic pathway) along Waccamaw River that goes under the US-501 bridge and over some extremely old railroad tracks. Stunning views of the river and an abundance of Spanish moss draping the trees. Definitely a must do if you are near this community or while traveling on vacation just as we were.

Oceanfront Playground!…read more This is probably my favorite place in Mrtyle Beach. There are lots of activities for the young and old. Bungee, speed boats, zip line, rollercoaster, small rides, tons of bars/eateries and a Ferris wheel plus it's all on the ocean! There are a variety of shops selling the usual fare of souvenirs, tshirts and shot glasses....but it's a nice walkable area and and couldn't help but notice how clean the boardwalk area and strip was. There was even a Starbucks. lol In all, I truly enjoyed my time here and definitely recommend as a stop when visiting Myrtle Beach.

It was founded by Indian-born Canadian businessman and entrepreneur Spoony Singh. After touring famous attractions on Hollywood Boulevard, Singh realized he had not seen any celebrities save for their foot and handprints at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. He wanted to give people a chance to get close and look into the eyes of their favorite entertainers. He purchased an empty brassiere factory and luggage shop near Hollywood Boulevard and reopened it as the Hollywood Wax Museum: a wax museum that put its focus on A-List stars as well as classic entertainers. Singh would retire in 1990 and pass away in 2006, but his family still runs the operation. Additional locations of Hollywood Wax Museum opened in Branson (MO) in 1996, Gatlinburg (TN) in 2007 (replaced by Pigeon Forge in 2012), and Myrtle Beach (SC) in 2014. My family and I recently visited the Hollywood Wax Museum's Myrtle Beach location while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. We decided to purchase the All Access Pass which also gave us access to "Hannah's Maze of Mirrors" and "Outbreak - Dread the Undead". As soon as we walked in, we got to take a picture with a life-size sculpture of King Kong! Afterwards we had a blast seeing lifelike sculptures of all of our favorite celebrities and characters, such as Indiana Jones, Audrey Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Dolly Parton, Frank Sinatra, the Terminator, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, Beyoncé and much more! I especially enjoyed the Chamber of Horrors which featured Count Dracula, the Mummy, and my personal favorite: Frankenstein's Monster! Afterwards, we had a lot of fun exploring the mirror maze. We actually had a hard time finding our way out of there. I had fun exploring the zombie attraction, but the thought of it was way too scary for my wife and sons. They decided to have another trip through the mirror maze instead. We ended up spending over 2 hours at the museum. We highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys wax museums!
