To begin with, according to their website they open at 9am but that's changed to 10. And it does say 10 in Yelp. When a good sized crowd was able to get into the building we went to the second level where we were told there is no restaurant or buffet (this was on a Sunday). It is grab and go to take to the 3rd level and eat. The grad and go consisted of biscuit and gravy from a mix. They also had beans and cornbread. That's it. I had a biscuit and gravy and a bowl of beans. $11.84. Beans were not bad-pretty salty but for what I got definitely not worth it Went downstairs after eating and the gift shop seems like any other gift shop. Maybe the mixes were made there but even so nothing else seems to be. Suggest you go for the history and not the food read more

Not exactly what we expected to see. Yes it is a working mill but mostly a gift shop. We could not see the mill working although we could see the wheel turning in the river. They do sell some unusual items such as local grains. On the third floor is a small clean cafe serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Staff was friendly and helpful. Some nice views from upstairs windows. Stay away from the bathroom as it is just a dirty outhouse. read more

The building is so cute, the only problem is the restaurant is on the 3 floor and it is stairs all the way. The Reuben is fabulous. My husband loved the BLT. The chicken sald sandwich was good, the bread was different, it was cranberry and pecan. The Pecan and Blackberry Cobbler were very good. It was fun seeing the mill down stairs and my daughter liked being able to hand grind corn. read more

For those enchanted with historic places, this is one of the best day trips I can recommend. The upstairs cafe includes vintage items from the frontier era encased in glass. The seating provides cleansing views of war eagle creek & the still working water mill attached. Stopped in for beans and cornbread on a cold afternoon. Wasn't as good as previous trips. Beans tasted more like chili than beans and were just lukewarm. Cornbread was also cold and pretty dry. Real butter would've helped. Cobbler was the star of the show this trip. Have always had good meals here before so will return. Hopefully this was just an off day. Kids first trip. As a person with high standards I have learned to curb my expectations most of the time... but when you scout a place with a 4.5 stars, is known for its breakfast/brunch and stops serving it at noon on a Sunday. A place that is one of the last living grit mills in the area and not only are the not serving grits past breakfast time but not on the menu at all. This place is beautiful and has so much charm, it is a shame that they couldn't do more with their restaurant. Only eight items on it, zero variety. Unless they do some radical with the menu and operating standards, we will not be recommending or returning. Such a shame, mediocre is not acceptable any more! The character of the War Eagle Mill is built on combination of the location, the one lane bridge, War Eagle creek, the shop, the unique restaurant, and the actual working mill. This is a great spot to get in the water and cool off, to grab a bite to eat, or just to explore the premises. We visit the mill several time a year as we love to drive through the area during the various seasons. I am a fan of good beans and cornbread, and the mill has some of the best. Completely home-made. For the cornbread, I believe they even grind the corn meal and flour onsite. (You can buy packaged their cornbread mix in the shop!) The sandwiches are great, but skip 'em if you like beans and cornbread, would be a crime to order a sandwich instead. This location is extremely busy during the craft fairs, so might be best to skip those weeks if you don't like crowds. The craft fair is their claim to fame, so it is a must see if you are into that sort of activity. (Hint if you go, drive out about 530 or 600 in the morning to beat traffic!) read more

The food is really good. We visitied with our out of state car club and everyone at the mill was so very accommodating in setting up (with advanced notice) for lunch for 30 people. The special of the day, open faced roast beef with gravy was so good and large portions. Several people got the peach and blueberry cobblers, with ice cream of course, and they said it was the best they ever had. If your a small or large group, let them know in advance that your coming and you won't be disappointed. Oh, two things, the restaurant is on the 3rd floor, stairs, and the restrooms are out houses, but that didn't stop any of us from having just the best time. We were definitely full when we left. Great place to pick up your favorite flour, corn meal and lots of other wonderful items in the gift shop areas. read more

Great for a short (30-45 min) pitstop on your way to/from other sites. We stopped on our way back from War Eagle Cavern and hd a great time learning about the history of the mill with our kids. Gift shop was fun with lots of local good! read more

Mind you, this is a very humble place - the restaurant is on the third floor and the bathrooms are across the parking lot. There are but a few tables. Counter service. And a very limited menu. But, truthfully, all they need on the menu are the biscuits and the pancakes. They are the best. And the drive there, depending on the time of year can be quite beautiful. Biscuits are 5 star. Have been going to this mill for decades - have seen it during ups and downs over the years. Now, is clearly a down time - I could tell in May that something was up - high turnover - now it is pretty grim. It's still a beautiful location and drive In the run up to the holidays - there was no decoration - no specials. Several shelves empty. Several product suppliers seemed gone. No grinding was taking place - the mill wheel was just in freewheeling mode and I could not see that they were using the waterwheel to actually produce anything anymore. The saddest thing was the grim, cold and joyless atmosphere - A woman - Apparently a manager, spent her time - glaring at customers and workers like they were all pickpockets she was trying to catch. I got what little I needed and got out. It's really fallen on hard times there in the past 7 months or so. read more

On this particular visit, my sister (who has been to this mill many times) and I were on our way to Eureka Springs on a Sunday afternoon in August, when she suggested this special detour/stop. Boy am I glad we did! To our advantage, they are open every single day of the week. The area is so picturesque and quite an exciting drive too. Coming down the hill, spotting the bright red building through the trees with the attached waterwheel nestled by the river, simply charming. I hadn't ever seen a single lane wooden bridge before yet alone drive over one. What a thrill! The inside is certainly unique, with a general store to purchase goods, the mill in action, displayed antiques, a sign in book with the story of the mill, a second floor with general merchandise for purchase and a restaurant on the top floor. (No elevator) Needless to say, I was enchanted from start to finish and look forward to my return, next time for the Arts and Crafts Fair. read more
