The host, Levi, is just one of those outstanding individuals who is always upbeat and wants to make sure you are enjoying your stay. Prices are comparable to a KOA without the "pack em in" feeling and the crowds. Plenty of places on the property to explore as well as the nearby George Washington National Forest. We found out about this place from a work friend and will be coming here regularly. Note that fishing the trout stocked creek does cost extra as Levi has day guests fishing it as well and needs to keep fishing pressure low. He also provides guided and semi-guided hunts during the season.

We were so relaxed, we added an extra day to our stay. The grounds are white painted buildings on either side of a campus-style grassy quadrangle of majestic trees -- with hammocks, volleyball court, benches, a music stand, and a "campfire" surrounded by semicircles of benches. There are lovely gardens, flowers and other plantings throughout the property. The resort is founded and grounded on the springs -- a source of uncommonly delicious and reputedly healthful water that flows to drinking fountains, room taps, the swimming pool, and to dining room. Delicious spring water is everywhere! We are hikers and obtained resort maps to the trails which were completely free of litter and pleasantly quiet, shaded and challenging. We loved the 100% spring fed pool -- profoundly pleasant and refreshing after a long hike. The relatively new spa facility is well-run and maintained. The Japanese-inspired baths were a wonderful way to begin our weekend. The massage therapists are exceptionally experienced and capable. There is 24-hour ping pong in two buildings exclusively set up for the purpose. Saturday night, the campfire is lit, and most guests gathered around for a singalong of old camp songs that had children from 7 months to 70+ laughing with innocent silliness. A large and well-organized library. Many books, once left by guests, are available to take home with you. Throughout you can spot people simply reading, playing cards, talking, and everywhere children freely playing. Capon Springs is run by the descendants of the founder, a businessman transformed by failures into a deeply spiritual innkeeper. A spirit of trust and safety pervades the resort. The tranquility of Capon Springs quickly washed us of the anxieties of the wired America in which we work and live. In the dining room, at the same table for every meal, our waitress learned our preferences, and we dined contentedly on excellent simple American cuisine. We had adequate cell service (using our ATT sim cards) and, when the urge was irresistible, used the wi-fi that is always available near the center of the property in "The Meeting Room" building. The rooms and furnishings are simple. There is no glitz, no pretense -- neckties are forbidden in the dining room! This is place where families celebrate grandpa/great grandpa's birthday, and there is a flag raising ceremony before breakfast. Every guest is part of the community, united in the pursuit of peace, joy and human connection. This is a place that we are going to return to! I know that if I can arrange a family reunion here of cousins, siblings and offspring, it will be a huge success.

The bed was comfortable. Be sure to bring your own body lotions as there isn't any in the bathroom. There is a hairdryer under the bathroom sink . It was located on the back road from the main street down the hill on what looked like a small farm. There was a beautiful pond just behind the B&B but it was partially frozen. The scenery was amazing to look at plus they had a small red barn just to the left of the entrance. When we entered we were greeted right away. We received a free bottle of wine and 2 glasses to take home with us with inscriptions of the bed-and-breakfast name on it. The rooms were very clean and well-kept although I do want to complain that the bed was not as comfortable as I thought it would be but it was rather stiff and bouncy. The pillows weren't comfortable either they were flat instead of fluffy like the kind I'm used to. When evening came we decided to get into the Jacuzzi but when I ran the water for some reason it looked brown. I took a clear glass and scooped some water out just to make sure and thought it was okay to get in the tub because the glass was clear. I later developed a rash on my neck and four arms and thighs from what I now know is called hot tub rash. I thought it might have been a necklace I began wearing but when the rash started showing up on other parts of my body that the necklace had never touched, I knew that this had to be it. The staff was very friendly and accommodating but another downside to this place is that the walls and floors are extremely Hollow. I could hear the guest above me walking around and making noises that sounded like they were bowling. we had to ask them to settle down so that we could sleep. I could also hear people talking out in the common room as if they were right next door even though we were a good 30 or 40 feet from the entrance. Breakfast was very good in the morning so I have no complaints about the food it's sad to say though they had to waste a lot of it because people didn't eat. There's one kitchen that all the guest shared that included a refrigerator, stove and cabinet space. A lot of the people there were very friendly and allowed us to partake of their food and drinks while we were there. The BnB also supplied snacks and beverages for us to enjoy. I'm not sure about the other rooms but our room had a Jacuzzi and a fireplace and a king size bed. I didn't get much sleep because of the room being so bright do to the fact that they have those candle lights in the windows. The owner said that I could have unplugged them but I didn't want to bother with their decorations. I'm very upset that I have to give this place a low rating it was so beautiful upon first sight but after the fact it was just upsetting. I would probably only return here if I was able to sleep upstairs and be sure that my hot tub was cleaned properly.

Each room has it's own outdoor space, and the area behind the property has been thoughtfully done to give guests plenty of places to sit, swing, or just hang out by a fire. It was too chilly for the pool while we were there, but it looked very inviting. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, and the entire place was kept impeccably clean. There is even a self-service area for snacks and drinks, or things you may have forgotten to bring along from home. There is access to the lake, as well as a place to dock a boat, if you have one. There are also plenty of interior gathering areas that are comfortable to hang out if the weather isn't cooperating. I would highly recommend Cove Creek Lodge to anyone looking for a place to stay at Deep Creek.

The phone number is 301-387-7633. Interval International suggest that the nearest airport is located at Pittsburg, 110 miles northeast. Be careful not to confuse the Lakewood Resort in Maryland with a similar Lakewood Resort Club located an hour east near Morgantown, WV. The two resorts bear some similarities. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake is in western Maryland just 45 minutes east of Morgantown WV or 60 minutes southeast of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Lakewood Resort is located just south of the Mason Dixon Line. Additional driving times are as follows: three hours northwest of Washington, D.C., five hours west of Philadelphia, and six hours east of Cincinnati. Lakewood Resort seems to be a comfortable motor trip from many eastern and Midwestern cities. The Interval International website provides eight accurate pictures of this townhouse timeshare. The indoor pool is located across S.R. 219 and requires a short drive. Families will not want children walking across a sometimes-busy highway. The exterior townhouse photo suggests a "pond" within walking distance of the Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake. This "pond" is actually a very large lake that is named Deep Creek Lake. Deep Creek Lake has been a very popular resort for years. During the winter months, Deep Creek Lake may be frozen and covered with several feet of snow. The visitor may be unaware of the presence of a very large lake. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake is an excellent summer, spring, fall, and winter holiday for couples and family. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake is an older, small, but well-maintained resort. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake is located very near S.R. 219 and check in is not a hassle. Parking is convenient, and because Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake has been "sold out" for years, there will be no problems with a sales staff. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake provides many activities throughout the year. Vacationers will enjoy swimming (indoor pool and large lake), tennis, fishing, boating, sailing, waterskiing, snow skiing, golfing, horseback riding, hiking, and bicycling. The units are fully furnished with air conditioning, VCR/cable television, fireplace, washer/dryer, and a completely equipped kitchen. The living areas are adequate size, and the bedrooms tend to be smaller than average. My preference is for two king beds rather than the twin beds in the second bedroom. I-68 provides a beautiful east west corridor for a motor trip through the Maryland mountains. The elevation at Deep Creek Lake is 2,487 feet. And because our family holidays frequently times in the Canadian or U.S. Rockies, I use the term "mountains" loosely. However, Dictionary.com defines a mountain as "a natural elevation of the earth's surface rising more or less abruptly to a summit, and attaining an altitude greater than that of a hill, usually greater than 2000 feet (610 meters)." Thus, the late John Denver got it right with "Take Me Home, Country Roads," a song referencing West Virginia. Western Maryland topography is very similar to the Allegheny Highlands. This is because Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia all are part of the Allegheny Highlands. The Allegheny Highlands are part of the Appalachian Mountains. The Allegheny Mountain microclimate in Maryland's western panhandle contrasts with the state's otherwise temperate conditions. If one arrives from an urban area such as Dayton, Richmond, Washington, D.C. or Baltimore, the Allegheny Highlands offer a superb mountain retreat without the potential elevation sickness that can befall those entering the Rockies. McHenry is small and unincorporated. Other nearby Garret County locations are Accident, Deer Park, Loch Lynn Heights, Mountain Lake Park, Redhouse, and Oakland. Oakland affords the most commercial businesses in Garrett County. Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake and the general area offers some two-dozen restaurants from chain to "mom and pop." Perhaps, because Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake is in Maryland, there are several seafood restaurants in this mountain retreat. We have been able to exchange into Lakewood Resort at Deep Creek Lake during the summer and during the winter.
