If this place were a few blocks closer to the canal, it would be hopping. It is situated in the (now renovated) Marché Sécrétan, which has recently reopened with a new grocery store, clothing shops, and a Neoness fitness club. The brasserie is way up there on the super-cool scale. It's got a huge wood fire pizza oven, various types of seating, and a cabin-y decor that makes you feel "at home" (if home is in the mountains of Canada). The menu is fairly typical, with pizzas and other snack-type food. The drink list is large and diverse. The biggest drawback of this place, though, is the prices. Basic lemonade for 5€. Bottled beer (Brooklyn...hipster magnet) for up to 15€ a bottle (are you kidding me?!) Plus food that is approximately 25% more expensive than it needs to be. This neighborhood is not accustomed to the price tag of Wanted and it wouldn't surprise me if it gets pointed to as a prime example of conscious overzealous gentrification. This is still the 19th, where the average income is far below that of other areas. Sure, it's brushing up against some of the wealthier areas around Buttes Chaumont, but I can see the run-in waiting to happen with the lower income population that resides nearby. If the prices were more reasonable, I'd hang out here regularly after my workout next door. Don't get me wrong, the place is very good overall and I love that good places are making a point of branching out up here in our neck of the woods. I just wonder if it's going to be able to sustain itself given its location and prices. read more
