This is a KOA now, which is an embarrassment for KOA. This is one of the most expensive KOA camping cabins I've ever stayed in. There was no potable water or electric on the exterior. This made cooking and washing a real chore. I found myself dehydrated on 90 degree days because I wasn't drinking enough. The RV site next to us had it. It would be simple to split the spigot. If you have a fire ring, you should have water to extinguish said fire. You have to hike super far for water or bathrooms. There are only three showers for a ton of sites. For $150, this was a joke. There are no hooks or mirror inside or screen door (pretty standard at Kai camping cabins). Pay the extra money and stay at the Econolodge next door for $160. You'll have water, ac, and electricity. We wanted to go camping for the first time with our son. It wasn't worth it for the cabin. We should've just rented it. The campground in Newberry was half the price and worth it. read more

Pros-decent sized sites. Woodsy or sunny options. Close to Munising and sites. Full hookups to rustic. We hauled firewood out of woods and no one cared. Nice trails on site. Kids had fun with free mini golf. Cons-Noisy neighbors. People doing full pan of dishes AT the freshwater sprayer and no rule against it (different people, daily). Bathrooms seemed messy but not completely disgusting (we had full hookup so I only went in the park's bathhouse once). Noisy road, next to railroad (loud whistle @ 7:00am!), landfill across street with noisy trucks in am. Pool advertised as heated but quite chilly! Pool and mini golf need repair. Laundry facilities not adequate (but there are two laundromats in town). Overall, not bad, not great either. Served as a good home base for our adventures but definitely not a destination itself. Sidenotes: check out MNA Falls and Tannery Falls. AWESOME and easy to get to. If you do Pictured Rock cruise, get dramamine!! Go to IGA in town rather than Glens grocery. NEVER AGAIN! If you go to the UP for a northwoods experience DO NOT GO HERE! Head toward pictured rocks and try one of the State Forest camping sites. I felt the pit toilets at the primitive campsites were cleaner than the flushing/running water toilets at wandering wheels. Plus the campground is located across the streat from a LAND FILL!! Yep that's right. At 6 am you get to hear trucks going in and out of the landfill. About as far from nature as I've felt i a while. Worse than Jellystone. Worse than KOA. read more

We picked this place as a plan B, because we waited too long and the better camp sites in the area were all booked up. At Wandering Wheels, the sites are cramped, making you feel a little too cozy with your neighbors. Way too many kids and dogs, making it a very noisy place (we were woken up to our neighbor's little yapping dogs at 6:30 AM). I should also add that being as close to the road as it is, you hear cars all night and morning. I had a difficult time falling asleep... rather than being lulled to sleep by nature, all I heard were trucks. The bathrooms were also pretty gross; continually wet and smelly. The one pro is that the shirtless guy cleaning the bathrooms was nice. That's about it. I think this place is better suited for families who want a place to park their RVs at night; did not suit our group of young 20-somethings looking to camp in a tent. read more

This KOA rates in the bottom 10%. Bathrooms are dirty and dark. There is always a wait for the shower as there are only 2 for each gender. 80 campsites. There is no utility sink. No dressing space outside the shower as there is a huge chair in the way. Soap and paper towels were usually empty. Needs TLC in major way. Our first site wasn't level at all so we moved next door. Site still had garage and a bag of dog poo laying on the ground. Store was nice enough.. staff were friendly enough... but this is a first class dump. read more

This is now a KOA. Very rowdy campground. It's teen party central. If you have teens, they will love it. If you are looking for quiet, you won't find it here. It's a KOA now. I would've preferred something quieter with a tent spot surrounded by trees and no bright lights on at night. This place has a lot of families with loud children and a pool and playground. I shouldn't complain, because 2 of those kids were mine and they loved the pool. The owners were helpful and nice. The bathrooms need updating and there should be more for a campground this size. Covid-era no coffee in the camp store. But the Holiday gas station a mile down the road had good coffee. This campground just changed to a KOA. Which would have been helpful to know before we got there. We wasted time driving around for looking for this campground because there was no sign for wandering wheels. I would have been nice if they would have let people that had reservations to know before they came so they didn't waste time looking for a campground that changes its name and takes down the sign! Our site was woodsy and decent size. However the electrical box and water was on the wrong side of the lot. We could not put our trailer on that side because a rather large tree stump in the way. I was glad we had enough hose and extension cord. But had to be careful not to trip over it all the time. Bathrooms were ok. They were clean when I used them however they need more than 4 total showers in a campground of that size. Overall this campground was decent but needs updating. but I hope that now that it has changed ownership it will get the improvements it desperately needs. read more

This was a horrible campsite. For a KOA and paying the extra money I would expect a lot more. They put us in a campsite up front that was under a chokeberry tree. Chokeberries are like blueberries. Once you step on them they squish under foot then stain anything else you step on. After sweeping as much as I could away from the camper, I swept off the picnic table and put it under the camper awning so we wouldn't get creamed by the falling berries. When we went to leave I had to slowly roll up the awning to try and remove any stuck berries, although I could not get them all and some of them stained the awning. Why they would have this kind of tree in a campground is beyond me. The 2 showers weren't very good either. The bathroom could use a good remodel. read more

Not set up to provide water to electric only sites. You must walk all the way to the front of the office for water from the RV fill and dump station. Only one set of restrooms with just two showers for the entire campground. In the ladies room, only two toilets out of four were usable. Pool liner was ripped or something and out of use. They did provide a key to the budget hotel's pool next door for a $10.00 refundable deposit. read more

We stayed here one night in a 35' RV a few days ago. Owner was cordial and accomodating as to where we preferred to set up. There was a nice space at the rear of the property which appeared to be slightly neglected rustic camping sites (Maybe it was just due to it be the shoulder season). NOT HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE! If you're in a wheelchair you cannot use a bathroom because the men's and women's restroom have stairs. Owners are rude and THEY acted put out because I was handicapped. After reading many of the reviews already posted, I knew I was making a mistake coming here. And it was! I can't believe that this place was so bad. They charge a premium price for there camping spots but it appears as if they put absolutely no effort into the upkeep of the place. When we arrived, we had a mud pit for a site surrounded by piles of dead leaves (that other campers had raked up) from last fall; and this is in July. The whole campgrounds looked like this. No grass at all. Also, would it hurt to try and spray for mosquitos around the woods? When it rains, everything turns to mud and the breed like crazy. We bought wood here that was wet and wouldn't burn (that's after the mud pits dried enough to sit outside). I also had to rake up sharp gravel from the site as it seems that every once in a while they must throw down some gravel to keep the dirt from completely washing away. The only good thing about this place was the fact that I could leave every day to go take part in all of the great outdoor activities in the area and when we packed up and left never to return to this place. It's too bad that an area like Munising doesn't have more campgrounds than they do. If you're lucky, you can get a spot at the municipal campground, if not and you need full hookups, try finding someplace else. If there were more choices, I guarantee this place would go under in a heartbeat. We drove about 700 miles to stay here. read more

There were no pros with the campground. We were put in the over fill part of the campground. It was behind the hotel and down a path in the woods far from the campground. They had just mowed the day we arrived and the mosquitoes were not happy. We were attacked as soon as we stepped out of our truck. We had no access to water and have no idea where it would be. The pool was warm but the dead bugs on top of the water and slimy bottom made it impossible to use. The pool needed repaired as it was cracking. The mini golf course is old and needs to be removed. The junk that lays around this campground is everywhere. Snow machines and vehicles that I can only assume were broken down were all over. Scrap metal piles. We couldn't stand the mosquitoes (deep woods off and candles did nothing) and left after 1 night. Since it was a holiday weekend, they told us they would refund us our remaining money only if they rented our site out. I called the day after we left to see if they had opening, they didn't but never refunded us our money. read more

Avoid this place if you have a big (39 ft. or larger) rig and are assigned a site in the woods. The dirt, interior roads were riddled with holes that will jar your unit no matter how slow you drive. For added fun the branches will do a nice job on the sides of your motor home. And as George of the Jungle said, "what out for that tree!!" I made a reservation for a full hook-up, 50 amp site and was even given the number of the site that I would be occupying. When I arrived at this campground to check in, unbeknownst to me, I was assigned another site, and given an E & W site with 30 amps. I paid for the site since I had not been to this campground before and headed for my site. I check out this site and I immediately returned to the office and pointed out that the assigned site was not suitable for my motor home due to the difficulty of getting into the site and the fact that the hookups were located in the woods way toward the front of the site. The lady at the desk said that there was nothing that she could do about the situation since a large group came in and no other sites were available. When I asked about speaking to the owner, she said that "he was a big guy and you don't want to talk with him." So, the end result of this situation was that I asked for and received a refund for my three day stay. I then proceeded to head down the road to the Municipal Campground in Munising where I was able to get a site in a campground that can handle all types of rigs and is on the shore of Lake Superior. read more

At one time, I'm sure this was a nice park, but it is clearly neglected now. The bathroom facilities are quite inadequate for the number of sites (four commodes and two shower stalls per gender for 100 or so sites). They are never clean even after being cleaned. The paint is peeling, and the water doesnt drain right. The pool was full of dirt. It looked like it hadn't been vacuumed all summer and the water was beginning to turn green. The mini golf course was full of peeling paint and rotting wood. The few good things I can say about the place is that the sites are shady and the cable and wifi work. I'd look for a different campground if I were to come here again. read more

We stayed here in our 5th wheel. It was a pull-thru full hook up site on a wooded site, ground was level and easy to navigate. Not very ascetically pleasing and more sand than gravel. We faced our neighbors who pulled in the opposite way, we had to share the fire pit because really there was no other way. Setting up was ok, dealing with the sand. Slide units went into heavy brush. Cable & Wifi was not as advertised and the pool was closed. Thankfully we did not use the bathroom facilities except for one time and they were hot and disgusting! There was a train that was close and blew it's horn at least a dozen times at 2 am. I would not choose to stay here again. read more

I would definitely not recommend this campground as your ultimate destination. It's ok if you only plan on sleeping there and seeing the incredible sights nearby during the day. They absolutely need more bathrooms for the number of campsites here and also someone to maintain them. The pool didn't look too inviting so we didn't even use it. We stayed in a cabin, which was ok. This was our first trip to Upper Peninsula of Michigan and we traveled over 400 miles to stay at Wandering Wheels Campground. Reservations we made months ahead of time and we even checked monthly to insure the details. It took awhile to find their location, which was already a bad start. After checking in we were given details on how to find our reserved site. However there was someone already in our spot. We went back to the front desk and told them about the issue. The lady at the front desk told us that someone else must have been mistaken and took our spot. She recommended we go take a worse spot than we had before. She did not acknowledge their mistake. She did not throw-in anything that would make us stay. I told her we should not get a worse spot than we had reserved due to their mistake. They overbooked which is understandable but because I have worked at a hotel I know most places throw in more things in order to makeup for their mistake. However she failed to do so and became very defensive. She did not maintain professional at all and claimed she was having a long hard day and that we should just go and stay at the Econo lodge next door. She even mentioned that maybe we should go back home. We eventually were refunded our money and had no place to stay. There is no way that lady should be working at the front desk. She was the least professional person I have ever met and even suggested that after 400 miles traveled we should just stay at a hotel even though our trip was a planned camping trip. This started our vacation off on a horrible foot and I would never recommend anyone to stay here ever. This place and this lady they employ are despicable. read more

Reserved a full hook-up campsite weeks in advance of our trip. Did not receive a confirmation email, had to email them ourselves to make sure they had our reservation. Never able to get someone to answer the phone, had to rely on email. We chose this campground because of the amenities they offered (wifi, cable). When we arrived, there was a piece of paper taped to the counter that said "No Cable". We asked what was going on, and they told us that the cable company had "just changed things" the Friday prior to our arrival on Monday, and that now it had gone digital, they didn't have cable. We asked why we hadn't been informed, as we might have made a different choice. We had been in touch on the previous Friday regarding our reservation, and when we received the email response, no indication was made that a service we were paying for was no longer available. The female manager/owner, who was on the phone with a potential camper when we got there (I guess they do answer the phone sometimes), was very short with the phone guest. When she got off the phone to address our concern, she was very rude about our inquiry, never apologized or offered us a rate reduction for the lack of amenity. She shoved our reservation form back across the counter at us and said " You haven't been charged anything, you're free to go somewhere else!". Well, she had us over a barrel, because we didn't know offhand of where we would go, so we chose to stay anyways (against our better judgement). The campground itself was just ok...didn't mind the wooded sites, they were spacious, but unkempt. It is apparent that they don't do much upkeep, the sites could have been maintained much neater, the mini golf area was a joke (torn greens), and the pool needed vacuumed. Only one bath house for this larger campground (thank goodness we had full hook-up). Wifi was very unreliable. Because of no cable, we attempted to use our digital antenna, but this remote area only had one station, and it would go in and out. Loved the Munising area...we used this as a base camp for travelling to Marquette and Copper Harbor, as well. Based on the above factors, we would NOT stay here again, and would never recommend it to our friends. These people are not good hosts/ caretakers of this property. read more

This campground is in need of a maintenance person. The bathrooms were always in need of cleaning and rhe toilets always had a large puddle of water behind them. The basement laundry had a leak in the ceiling. The mini golf needs to be replaced. The pool always had sand and dirt on the bottom of it and was not ever cleaned by staff while we were there. There are 106 designated sites and only 4 showers (2 for males & 2 for females). Most evenings and mornings there was quite a line for the showers. The garbage truck went through the camp road at 7 am on Friday morning to empty the two dumpsters. We did hear the trucks and seagulls from the landfill across the street. The website promotes a heated pool but the only heat is from the sun so the water was chilly. Basketball is listed on the website and a few members of our group was disappointed to find the hoop in a state of fisrepair. One family in our group reserved a pull through, full hookup site and found they could not have a campfire as the fire pit ended up under their awning when they lined up with the sewer connection. Our group of 4 families will not be returning nor recommending this campground. We will be returning to Munising but not staying here. read more
