I know Winnipeg has a lot of great places to get a hamburger so I asked for a recommendation from…read moremy aunt who I was visiting. She recommended the Dreamland Diner. So driving back from the Banjo Bowl, I decided to try it out. It was somewhat busy but I was immediately sat in a booth and left with the menu. My eyes are usually bigger than my stomach and I have a habit of ordering more than I can eat. So to play it safe I ordered their smallest burger, the Junior which is basically a double cheeseburger , onion rings, and a milkshake. They had quite an extensive milkshake menu with various flavours and toppings. This was the most difficult decision I had to make so I went with a bubblegum milkshake with marshmallow topping. May sound off putting to some but it was very good. I didn't have to wait long at all for everything to arrive and tucked right in. The onion rings, more Dairy Queen style opposed to A&W, were a bit over done and lukewarm as though they had been sitting for a while. I only ate a few. The burger itself was good. I'm a big fan of using Kraft single cheese slices for burgers as they melt much better than most "gourmet" or exotic cheeses some places use. The patty was a little dry and could have used some seasoning but they mixed diced onions into the meat which added some texture to it. To my surprise I actually finished the whole burger. Surprised not because it wasn't good, it was, but because, like I stated earlier, I'm not a big eater but I left the onion rings behind. Overall it was a good experience. Service was fine. I probably wouldn't go back by myself but if I was with people and they suggested it I wouldn't say no.

The staff were very cheerful and professional. The food is first rate. Bring your appetite for one…read moreof their burgers! The steady stream of "oldies" playing brings out the charm of this retro style diner.

The website describes the…read moredining experience as: "Michele's Restaurant combines the elegance of the past with today's mouth-watering food offerings. It's the perfect place to mix friends, food and fun!" I would describe it as: "paying hard earned money to line up for a buffet of bland hospital food." The menu was sparse overall. The service was lacking, and their wine menu could use some work. There were 2 selections of red wine, and the one we chose was sold out. No wonder why they make you pay in full before walking in.

It's very rare that I don't like anything at a buffet. I mean even at a crappy one I can usually…read moreeat something but this one was terrible. It's the restaurant located in the McPhillips Station Casino that serves up cheap buffet food - cheap meaning price and quality. I've actually dined here twice for lunch (not willingly) and on both occasions the food was gross. The dining area actually looks nice in a traditional sense but once you head towards the cafeteria area where the buffet is served everything starts sliding downhill. Hate to say it, but the food looks similar to hospital cafeteria food. Maybe hospital food looks better cause you think the sanitary conditions are better. I don't think things were actually dirty but sometimes buffets can give off this feeling that the food has been sitting here for hours and too many people have been poking around this food and that really grosses me out. The salad area looked kinda sad. The meat the carving station is usually not the best - one time it was this fatty hunk of ham. It was actually the worst piece of ham ever as it was unbearably salty. The side dishes seem to be sitting too long as the pasta was mushy. The rice was dried out and the veggies (which looked like those cheap frozen perfectly cut veggie mixes of green beans and carrots) had turned to a kind of murky colour. I think the only things worth eating were the soup because it was hot and you can't get sick from that. And the wide selection of desserts. Service was good as plates were cleared quickly and they were really friendly. But here's a tip, if you happen to find yourself hungry and confused at the McPhillips casino go to the McDonalds just past the main entrance instead.
