    Lentil soup and mango juice
    Shakira H.

Wanaag brought East Africa to the East! Always pleases my heart to see a family owned business because the level of care and service warms me up just as much as this joint's lentil soup. Portions are massive for this Somali eatery. They're feeding families, people! I got the goat and lamb dinner with half/half pasta and rice - yes, you can do this! In fact, I encourage you to do so. Before I got my meal, I had a tall glass of mango juice (or you can get lemonade) with the most delicious lentil soup. My main was great. While I'm not usually a fan of goat or lamb, there was so much flavour! If you want to play it safe, try the chicken or beef suqaar. The caramelized onions, bell peppers mixed with all the spices was top notch. I tried to figure out if I liked the rice or pasta better, but I think I'm gonna get both because they were great in their own way. Rice had a few spices in it so it wasn't plain, but I also really liked how saucy the pasta was. I only ate half the food because it was ginormous. On my way out, I had to steal a glance at dessert. I settled on the coconut cake but they also have a flan, pineapple upside down cake, and others. They make all of them, except 1 cake, in-house. Halal for those that need that, and family owned. Definitely going to come back because it's places like these that feel like a warm hug.

Excellent food! The goat ribs and tbone have an awesome char to them. The milk cake is super addictive. Staff is super friendly.

I miss the original baristas who graced the shop when it first opened. It's great to know that many of them have gone on to open up cafes of their own. There are more than a few Rooster Coffee shops floating around out there. A similar named cafe called Rooster's Coffeehouse was established at Carlton University in Ottawa and has been around since 1960. Not to be confused with Rooster Coffee, a gorgeous cafe-roaster, located in Maribor, Slovenia.
