My son swears by this place and I think it's okay. He loves the chicken tenders and fries. Again, I think they're okay. The service at this location is rather slow but they are almost always accurate. On this trip I adventurously tried the fish sandwich. Please look at the attached image. Give me a break! I was hunting for a quick, down-home meal in Wilmington, and this chain of fried chicken shacks hit the spot. As the name implies, it's all about the chicken here. I ordered a three-piece dark box and it was tasty. They cook the chicken fresh so that first bite is full of warmth and crispness. The skin was fried perfectly and the meat was well seasoned and flavorful. It came with two sides that were ok - fries and the Mac and cheese. Both were ok. The drawback is they nickel and dime you on virtually everything else. Ask for barbecue or hot sauce, that's 50 cent a piece. Ketchup wasn't readily available. Horrible. Whew. Absolutely horrible. I'm pissed i spent $22. As a matter i'm on my way back so I can either get new food or get my money back because this food is awful. look at the fish sandwich that they served me. There's no fish just fried skin. I was livid. How are you just going to sell fried skin on some hard bread?! Unbelievable. Red beans and rice are extremely salty I damn near choked and the macaroni and cheese taste like it was made with fake cheese. This is awful absolutely awful I am so upset. Update: when i went back to Miller RoAd and showed them the fried fish skin sandwich, the lady agreed it was not acceptable and attempted to refunded me $5.75. I said, "why $5.75 when i paid $6 for it?" (Sidebar: And come to think of it, originally, the clerk didn't want to give me my receipt. She said they kept them back here and she pointed to a receipt collector thingie. I said, "i would like my receipt please.") She corrected the amount to $6.00. I then showed her the chicken which was not even warm and looked like it was fried up 2-3 times. She then just said, "let me just refund your whole order." It was bad. Smh. Even she knew it. Oh! I also found out that these various Walts Chicken establishments do not have the same owner. The spot on Lincoln street said the miller road location had different ownership (they wasn't claiming that fried fish skin sandwich). The owner bio for this establishment on Yelp says this location is owned by the widow of the original Walts owner (which i thought was the spot on Lincoln) but the two places say they have different ownership. read more

This has to be the worst soul food I ever had in my life. After being sick for a few days my husband decided he was going to bring me food that was filling and good for the soul! I was super excited especially since I hadn't eaten in a few days (hence the caption that I was so hungry I would have eaten a horse) to my surprise I opened the container of food and thought ... ok is this a joke. He ordered me fried fish with Mac and cheese and greens. However we were givin mac n cheese and rice and beans if thats what you would call it. The fish looked like it was from Gordon's in the freezer section of the market. The rice was hard with dry beans placed on the top. ( no sauce, no gravy). I must say I'm thoroughly disappointed. Since 2003 when I moved to Wilmington I've heard nothing but good things about Walt's. So they opened a location less than a quarter mile from my home and boy was I excited. So I stopped by he other afternoon after my weekly visit to Home Depot. Firstly, I just compliment the staff. Place was clean and very friendly and efficient , however when I got home with my 6 piece chicken I was so disappointed as to how salty and I over cooked it was. Dry as a bone and not much flavor at all. The two dinner rolls were an excuse for a roll. Highly processed white rolls the size of a small marshmallow. Maybe I will give them a second chance since it's so temptingly nearby and maybe the owner will respond to this review and offer some redemption read more

Just stopped at the Miller Rd Location and OMG that chicken was perfect! It was hot, crispy outside, juicy inside. Perfect! Also got the macaroni and cheese. It was good. Better than average restaurant mac & cheese but I like it a little more cheesier but I get it, this is not grandmom's Sunday dinner. Overall , The place is very clean. Staff Very friendly. Welcome to the neighborhood, Walt's ! I just stopped in for the first time, looking for a warm meal on a cold Saturday night. The takeout area was full of hungry people waiting for their orders. I took a few minutes to look over the menu. Not just chicken and not just lunch and dinner-- they also have breakfast. I decided to go with the fish platter, which comes with a roll and two sides. I'm experimenting with a low-carb lifestyle these days, so I doubled up on the collards. Otherwise I would have been all over the mac n cheese or potato salad. The fish and collards were perfect! The fish was nice and crispy and the collards were just so perfect-- tender yet firm, not greasy, and served in a generous portion. I've been eating at Walt's all my life that it's in my genes!Their chicken is evenly coated with a very light spice seasoning that taste like a Tabasco or hot sauce dust. This chicken must be at every single sole Wilmington party. With a side of hot sauce, potato salad, or a freshly made waffle and syrup this chicken is dope! We ordered the breakfast platters, with eggs, sausage and cheesy grits. First thing, the cheesy grits, DIDN'T HAVE ANY CHEESE IN THEM!!! The price we thought, was not the price they charged. They said they were revising their menu. They should have honored the price that was on the online menu.
