Was in town for a family reunion at the 4H camp and our cabin decided we wanted pizza for dinner one night. The majority of people wanted Pizza Hut or some other chain restaurant pizza but me and the wife insisted on trying this local place, and we're glad we did. EVERYONE loved the pizza and we took the leftovers up to the main hall for others to eat and they also loved it. Whether you're local or in town, highly recommend the pizza, and the store. The employees at the deli and in the store were super kind and welcoming. EXCELLENT food and customer service! They went out of their way to check around the store for odd things we were shopping for. Thanks for a memorable experience all around!!!! read more

This locally owned store meets so many needs for the community. There are no other close places to shop. The owner stocks a bit of everything from farm supplies, hardware, gardening supplies, and household products to soft drinks,canned goods, ice cream, bread, and almost any item you need. They also sell alcoholic beverages and have a great deli where you can get fresh meats, cheeses, and pizza, subs, and sandwiches made to order. The quality is great. read more

History

Established in 2001.

In July of 2001, Tim Morgan and his wife were tired of mainstream city life. They started negotiating the purchase of an existing retail country store in rural Roane County, WV. Building on their existing customer base, they started offering services and products not found in the Wal-Marts of today's world. 15 miles from the nearest city in any direction, they decided to go out on a limb and become an old-time, modern-day general store. Offering everything from fresh-ground beef to a quality wood, gas, or pellet stove, they brought the fading "Mom and Pop" store of the past back as a vital part of small town U.S.A.

Meet the Business Owner: Tim M.

When Tim and his wife were opening Walton's Thriftway, they had one vision. Rather than trying to compete with the chain stores on everyday items, they decided to go against the grain of traditional retailing. The resulting old-fashioned general store (with some modern upgrades) has proven to be a pleasure to stock and run.
