Great plate of food and wine from Capital Market!!!!

I LOVE this place!!! I recently went to the annual Market Mixer with friends! Great food music and wine! Yes, it's a farmer's market, too so you can't beat it!!!

    Grilled shrimp tacos.

You need to try the brisket breakfast taco, the burn end breakfast burrito and grilled shrimp tacos with the seasoned fries and cole slaw. We got a feast!!

This warehouse is open seven days a week. Parking is a bit cramped, perhaps because the signs saying that it's for visitors to the market only are unenforced, and it is an easy walk to a variety of other downtown areas. The exterior offered a wide variety of plants for sale, mostly for decorating your house, but there was a farmer's market as well. I didn't find any ramps but it's probably a bit late for them. The interior housed a number of specialty markets and a cafe and restaurant. Some stuff was quite pricey but it varied, and the selection was full of things that I suspect aren't easy to find in West Virginia. So it definitely struck me as a place worth at least taking a look at.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and this market was hopping. There is a large outside covered area and also an inside area. The outdoor market consisted of plants for sale along with a homemade ice cream stand and lots of fresh produce. The prices were moderate. The inside market consisted of small shops selling fresh meats, local canned items, a wine shop, coffee store, kitchen supply stand etc. At one end there was a full service Italian restaurant. It's a very nice stop and right off the highway.

Capitol Market in Charleston is so great. It's Thad big city feel of a market right in downtown. In an old historic building that is nice and warm in the winter. And has so much to offer with some amazing merchants. They've got grocers, eateries (seafood, meat, sandwiches, Italian, sushi, chocolates, coffee bar, even wine and cheese shop), plus local artisan products representing the WV. And in the summer it gets bigger with outdoor merchants galore. This is an incredible market, they done a great job with the layout. If it could be any better, I just wish it was bigger. There are places to sit and eat, enjoy the free Wi-Fi and have a meeting, study, read or work. It's a very inviting atmosphere. I see the Capitol Market only becoming better and better. It's a first class destination right in the heart of downtown Charleston. Come and enjoy, you'll be stoked you did.

This place is wonderful. Was visiting Charleston to see our brother. Listed as one of the top things to do. Such a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables. The hanging baskets and plants were gorgeous. And everything was at a great price. Def a must-go if you're in Charleston.

Yes I love the Capitol Market and all of the fragrant and beautiful flowers. Whenever I am unhappy, depressed or just a little blue I can park free and walk through the outside area with all the plants, fruits and veggies and flowers and get a quick pick me up. Not sure if it is the herbs or the flowers but I love the aroma and fragrances that make me smile and almost want to skip...lol This is a lovely old train depot in Charleston that when I was a child growing up in the area was abandoned and just falling apart and they remodeled and developed into a lovely shopping area and inside some lovely restaruants. It is rather small compared to larger cities especially since this is the capitol of the entire state. My favorite two shops inside are Johnny's Meat Market that's been around since I was a child also but in another location. There is also the Purple onion which is fresh produce market and sandwich shop. It is free parking and a lovely way to spend an hour or so.

The epitome of water delivery devices.

Mediocre pork bun. However, the water fountain? Perfect. The pressure had been meticulously adjusted, so that the water's arc nearly but not quite went over the edge, providing a perfect experience entirely free from the attempt to make out with the nozzle which is unfortunately so common among water fountains. Furthermore, the water flavor, temperature and mouthfeel were all at the pinnacle of their form. An incredible experience all around.

You certainly can't come to West Virginia without going to Capital Market! Imagine, a farmers market type of feel but is actually inside offering everything you could dream of! A true step-up from an outdoor farmers market! I have a big affinity for market shopping! As I'm making my way around to all 50 states, I vision about going to at least one food market per state. So I couldn't pass up the Capital Market while in Charleston! Located right off I-77, Capital Market is an inside market with various stores under one roof. If you have an interest in fresh produce, snacks, hot lunch, a neat meat market, wine shopping or just having a great dinner with friends and family, then you have made a great decision to come here. The market includes the following small vendor stores: *Purple Onion *Johnnies Fresh Meat Market *Sushi *The Wine Shop *CoffeeBaR AND; *Hollis Chocolates The capital market is located near a former train station. I'm sure during the summertime, the platforms shelter make for good local produce sellers. But indoors they are open all year round. My favorites stores inside where the Purple Union, which is really good for buying delicious fresh produces, flowers, and organic snacks, the wine shop with all their different variety of wines and craft beer, and honestly, who could resist the yummy chocolates from Hollis? At the end of the market, there is Soho's which is a really nice restaurant. Overall, this is a very fun place to check out if you are around the area. We bought some delicious snacks and jams from here that was really good! Truly a "Must Visit"!

Located in side historic old train depot, so the building itself is very nice and sort of uplifting. The lighting here is fab, so open and airy. I really enjoy the vibe I got here. The staff was very friendly! Also extremely helpful in answering a few questions. The salads are large for $8.99 and you have your choice of various salads and dressings. They are big and I wanted one but not enough room in the stomach for something this big so I opted for a small container of Egg Salad with 2 slices of Wheat bread cut in half in the container neatly packaged and sealed for $4.99 with todays day. The employee said everything made daily and fresh.. I also purchased some fresh produce some Cotton Candy Grapes about 1lb of those delicious little green globes. Total was $10.49 with taxes. The reason I am giving it a lower mark in the star scale is that within 2 hrs of eating the fresh Egg Salad I was so sick and I had to cancel my afternoon apt and visit the doctor. Needless to say, I will not order that again!! But I will definitely go back for some fresh fruit and veggies. I liked the location and I am not going to let one bad Egg Salad Sandwich stop me!! Dropped by here with a friend the other day and was impressed by the offerings. Their produce appears to have been hand-picked for appearance and quality, and they had an impressive array of excellent cuts in the meat fridges. The place was mostly empty when we were there, though they apparently do events here from time to time which sounded like fun based on their descriptions. Service was good, and they mostly left us to peruse the store on our own. The spice area deserves special mention due to its excellent selection. I have not seen options this good outside of large cities, and they even had vanilla sugar (which is great for baking, by the way). I will most definitely return here in the future when I make my next fancy dinner to stock up on ingredients! Overall: 4.0 stars ----- Pros: - Excellent selection of foods and ingredients for all your needs. - Well-designed store layout with a welcoming atmosphere. - Good service. Cons: - As you might expect, specialty items come at specialty prices. If you buy in small quantities it won't hurt your pocketbook, though expect to pay for quality. - Parking is minimal even at low volume times, you may have to park creatively during busier times.

The Athens Farmers market is year-round that runs Saturdays 9a-12p and Wednesday's (April through December) 9a-1p. With over 50 vendors, there is literally something for everyone. Some notable highlights: gorgeous state jewelry by Amanda Buchanan. I started holiday shopping early and snagged a few as stocking stuffers. I was blown away by some gorgeous pottery by Sledding Hill. Loved some tshirts and the concept behind It's Still Today. Tasted an abundance of salsa from Southwestern Style Salsa, they literally don't limit you or make you feel bad at all (which is great cause we ended up grabbing a few jars). Grabbed some jam from Fisher Farms and chips from Shagbark. I got the chance to meet the sweet daughters of Sarah's Sweets. Truly delightful girls who are so proud of their mom. You guys already know how much I love my sweets but what you might not know is that my favorite candy is fudge. I LOVE fudge so much and Sarah has a huge selection to choose from (more than 20) and it was SO YUMMY! And the flowers, swoon, the flowers at this market were just beautiful.
