I patronized this establishment, one last time, a couple of years back. The guy behind the counter starts yelling and swearing at me the moment I set foot in the door to pay for gas, for absolutely no reason. Never met that man before in my life. Did not doing anything apart from park my car at the pump. Wasn't wearing any clothes with anything written on them (offensive or otherwise). There was zero reason for that lunatic to start yelling at me. Maybe it was just one rogue employee who was fired soon thereafter. I'd be inclined to cut them a little bit of slack. But read through my prior reviews and you'll see why, even though this is by far the most convenient gas station to me, I will just never stop there until they get entirely new ownership. There are many gas stations in Waltham that aren't nearly as awful. This place doesn't deserve any business. To be honest, they need to simply knock the place down (properly decontaminating soil of any fuel spills) and build housing there. Or an office building. Or hell just leave it a vacant lot, it'd still be better than what is there now. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before taking two cars to get inspected here, but it didn't pop up on Yelp. Reading these reviews, I am more certain now that I definitely got scammed. Yesterday I brought in my car and they showed me that the back license plate light in front reflector we're out, and tried to charge me to replace the reflector (the license plate light "came back on its own") but literally as the guy was giving his spiel, he tapped the reflector and it came back on. I showed him, and he seemed disappointed not to have to do the repair. I just ended up paying for the inspection. Today I brought our other car, which also needed an inspection. I should've thought to check the lights ahead, but didn't. Sure enough, the same reflector light and license plate light were out, he charged me 20+25 to replace both, on top of the inspection, or I wouldn't pass. Both ended up "getting replaced" (I should've watched to see if this actually happened) in moments, and $80 later I was out the door. I don't know if they just loosen them up or what the deal is, but apparently watch carefully. They do the inspection away from the wedding chairs so you can't see what's happened, until they're ready to charge you or fail you in the inspection. Beware of this scam! I said to the mechanic "it's strange that these exact same things were wrong with my car yesterday" and he said "yeah a lot of people don't think to check those lights." read more

I went there for my car's state inspection and was told the parking brake wasn't working. They offered a couple of hundred dollars to fix it. I refused it and tried the parking brake myselt. It was working ok. The guy then showed me the car was still slowly moving with parking brake on. I guess he pushed the gas pedal. I later brought the car to my auto mechanic and it was working ok. He said some auto repair shops took advantage of women and most of his customers are women. Don't go there especially if you are a female! read more

I really wish I had checked out the Yelp reviews of this place before going there for my state inspection. What should have been a $29 inspection became a $70 rip off. Coming from a family of mechanics, I'm not exactly unfamiliar with how my car works. I'm no expert, or mechanic myself (can't even change a tire), but I'm not as stupid as these @ssholes made me out to be. I went there for my inspection. After about 5 minutes the guy comes out and has me go into the garage (hello liability - yes, I'm a lawyer) to see that my lights aren't even. He says he'll fix it for $20. He gives me the impression that this needs to be done for my car to pass inspection. I say fine, and resign myself to paying $49. It's the last day of the month that I can get this done and I don't want the hassle of having to come back. A bit later he calls me in, tells me it's done....BUT then he pulls off one of my windshield wipers, which I admit wasn't in the best condition but it was still working. He proceeds to "demonstrate" that the wiper is shot by pulling on the rubber part of it, thereby ripping it off the blade! Then he says he'll replace it - for another $12. I told him from the getgo that the tube connecting my washer fluid tank to the sprayer was blocked and that he just needed to blow out the block with an airhose to the tube - a 2 second (should have been free) fix. Instead of doing that, he tells me that the fluid was empty (lie) and that he had to charge me $4 to fill it up (bullsh*t). When I complain about it he yells at me "I don't work for free!" Then I find out that he charged me another $5 to actually replace the bulb, instead of just adjusting it. I could have had my dad or uncle replace the bulb and it would've cost me $7. This douchebag charged me $25. When I got into my car to check everything out, I pushed the stick for the windshield washer sprayer and it still didn't work! I stormed back into his garage and told him he didn't blow out the block. "No, it didn't work because it was empty" I called him on his BS, got into a yelling match with him in his parking lot (in front of his other customers, who I hope left or at least had second thoughts), and made him fix it. He couldn't figure out how to do it, so I actually had to borrow his air blower and do it myself. NEVER AGAIN! I am furious and also disappointed in myself that I let myself get taken like that at all. DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

I've got two reasons for why this place sucks! I've never used this place for gas and it's simply because of the pricing. I can easily go to Prospect St., which is a couple of blocks down, and go to the Hess gas station. The reason, gas prices will always be roughly 20 cents/ gallon cheaper than at Shell. The second reason being the repair shop guy, Tony. This guy has a huge attitude problem. I visited this guy once last summer when I was having issues with my front wheel. The repair price: $300. I passed on that deal and went to Auto Zone. I got the part for $100, went to J & L Auto in Waltham, and they serviced the car for $40. So I ended up saving quite a lot of money. Recently I got a new car and had to get it inspected. So I decided to see if things changed here in the past year, but apparently not. The guy still has a major problem talking to his customers. I wanted to stand by the the garage door on the side, not being in the way of anyone while the car was being inspected, and he was just like can you go outside or go inside my office in a very rude manner. I get that it might be convenient for a lot of people to use this place considering its on a major intersection, but I highly recommend avoiding it. I will definitely not be visiting this place again. Tony thinks that its okay to be rude to his customers, and it just isn't. If you need your car repaired, check out J & L Auto. I went in for an inspection sticker when he advised me not to get one because my car was not registered to the state of MA yet. As a new car owner, I really appreciated him turning down my $30 so I didn't get The Commonwealth fining my dumb ass. +1 However, I didn't enjoy the owner tell me that I, as a woman living alone, was unable to properly care and maintain her car and he advised me to get a thorough tune up, even though I had one done by the dealership only a few weeks back. I got my car inspected here and failed the first time. When I went back to get reinspected they secretly charged my card for 35$ again, which is illegal if you go back to the same place as before. I only noticed this because I save my receipts and check my card card bill. They fixed my light for 10$ (I knew about this) but then proceeded to charge my card for a second 35$ and not tell me thinking I would not notice. I went back and was given a refund in cash with my proof of double charging but beware if you go here, especially if you are a female!! Here is why I am giving Waltham Shell each star: 1. Consistently reasonable prices on gas 2. Convenient location Due to #2, I've had a couple of oil changes/inspections there. They consistently make me feel uncomfortable. It's the type of place where I feel like I have to work to get a fair shake as a female. This isn't because of my own antiquated stereotype of mechanics being sexist. I actually had a male friend come along for the ride one time that I went there. He wasn't there to help or anything; we were just going out to grab some Chinese food after dropping off my car. However, the mechanic would only address him. I would respond to the mechanic's questions, referencing "my car", yet the mechanic would only make eye contact with my friend, who was quietly standing behind me. It was very uncomfortable and more than a little demeaning. Waltham Shell is good if you need gas in a pinch and are in the area. However, if you need actual work done, there are far less sketchy places in the Waltham area. read more

The guy in the inspection shop in this Shell location forced me to replace my wiper with their cheap knockoff wipers, or they won't give me the inspection sticker (this was exactly what he told me). Excuse me? Those wipers did not last for 4 months and the rubber on the wiper starts peeling off, making louder noise than my original wipers. It is awful experience driving around with these wipers on my windshield. Thumbs down on their honesty. There are other reviews mentioning similar experience as mine as well. read more

They always find a time to fit us in quickly, get the job done right away, and the prices are reasonable. I never feel as if we are scammed into getting more done than needed. After Hogan tire refused to fix my flat tire (even though it was under their extended warranty and my tires passed state inspection--instead they tried selling me new tires) I drove across the street to this Shell station to have my flat fixed. They took me right away, fixed my flat in ten minutes and $30 later I was happily on my way. Courteous staff and a convenient location at a busy intersection. read more

I've been getting my sticker done here for almost ten years for my and my wife's car. Almost incident free with the occasional wiper blades needing to be replaced or light bulb being out (all cases happen to be true). They charge to provide the service but they have an overhead and need to keep their business profitable which I respect. I've been here for twenty visits and am shocked from the other reviews I have read. If I read these reviews before going I don't think I would have ever given them a chance. I'm glad I did however. Only downside for this place is that the inspection sticker service can get crowded at times and so you either have to try to make it on a off time or bring a book with you. read more

Replaced my wipers without asking me during my inspection, telling me afterwards that they were scratching my windows. (I had replaced one only three months ago). There was also some dust/grit from some product they had used inside the garage coating the inside of my car. Customer service is mediocre and because of their lack of communication(professionalism...), I don't trust this place any more and wouldn't recommend them unless they get their act together. The gas station is great but the mechanics shop is incompetent and unprofessional. I went to get my inspection sticker here. The guy said my license plate light was off (the light was on and off), either I paid him $20-30 to get it fixed or I'll fail the inspection. In the process of replacing the light bulb, he cracked the glass cover and broke one of the screw holder (he hammered the screwdriver by hand instead of using power tool). I went back to complain and he said there's nothing he can do. Later I googled that the light bulb cost less than a dollar. read more

I got a surprise puncture in my tire on Thursday 6/2 just about the time the all the repair shops would be closing for the night. I stopped at the shell gas station/auto repair today. I was greeted by Tony, explained my issue. He said no problem, let me take a look at. Showed him the tire, and my donut. yes we can patch that up. Gave him my keys and let the shop do their thing. About 20 minutes later he got me from the waiting area to show me about my rear brakes. Suggest getting them serviced soon as the pads are almost worn out. He let me take a look at it myself which I appreciate. Went back to the waiting room and let them finish. 10 mins later I was all set. No pressure no selling tactics. Just recommend what needs to be done and they can do the work with a warranty as well. Happy as a clam on a Friday afternoon. Most definitely recommend this shop for service!!!! And they gave me back my lock nut. I find that to be trustworthy! read more

Atrocious service. I took my car in for an oil change about a year ago and they charged me $60 for an oil change ($60!). They said they gave me synthetic oil, but nope, the service guy handed me the oil can after the fact and it was regular oil. I came to find out at my next oil change that they screwed the oil plug in so tightly that it stripped all of the threads on the inside of the oil pan, which meant I had to get an oil pan replacement: $465. When I went and spoke with the shop manager about what it had cost me (at another mechanic), he said that I was, "telling a story," and that I was just telling him that to try to get money out of him. Seriously, do not EVER trust these guys with your car. Ever. read more

Yikes. I went here once for an oil change and I will NEVER go back. Owner was sexist and rude, and the oil change took 45 minutes at 2pm on a weekday. While I was in the owner's creepy office waiting for my credit card to go through, the guy asked me if I am Italian. I told him no, and he commented that it's odd then that I have dark, curly hair. This guy is a thief. I took my car here about 2 years ago. Without going into too many grueling details, I'll just say that every time I brought it to him he would find some nit picky thing wrong with it. Each time he'd offer to fix it (for an arm and a leg), I'd decline and have it fixed elsewhere for a much better price. It got the the point that I brought it back a FIFTH time only for him to fail me for mildly worn windshield wipers and mildly worn tires. He clearly held a grudge because I refused to let him fix it for his ridiculous prices. I took my car somewhere else and it passed inspection that day. Yesterday, against my better judgement, because it was late in the day and my girlfriend was on her last day to get it inspected, we took it to this guy for a sticker. My girlfriend has a brand new car that has barely been driven. This thief said her parking lights were too dim, and said they needed to be replaced or else he would fail her. He of course offered to change them. We waited in the waiting room for a half hour. He charged us 30 extra dollars. We paid 65 bucks for a 35 dollar inspection. I called my mechanic friend as we were leaving, he told me the bulb costs 2 dollars for a pack of 2. This rat fink charged me 30 dollars for it. The guys a flat out crook, and he's rude to his customers as well. Also believe the stories of him being sexist, as it's her car yet he only would speak to me about it. He even tried to have my boyfriend talk to me about taking the review off. Come ON! This guy is a straight up hustler who is looking to make a dollar on any little thing he can find. Great garage for repairs, bodywork and general maintenance. After years of getting overcharged by Boston Volvo Village and Toyota of Wellesley, I take my Volvo V 70 and Toyota Landcruiser there for all needs. Once the BMW comes off it's service plan, we'll bring that their as well. If you want free starbucks and a fancy waiting area, keep overpaying at your dealer. If you want affordable, reliable car care at about 60% of the price, try Waltham Shell. read more

Went for an inspection, and will never go back. Was told I needed new tires (which may have been true) and that he couldn't let me go without replacing them, and an additional $200+ of parts and labor for random sensors to pass the emissions. I sat in the creepy cold office in the garage for nearly 2 hours while they replaced 2 tires (after being told it would done in 30 minutes), and declined to have the other repairs done. I tightened the gas cap on my car, the light went off and took it somewhere else where it passed without a problem. read more

Most people go to this place for a quick and easy inspection. Well, adhering a sticker is about as far as their skills go. I'm new to town, and upon going to the Waltham Shell for my registration the owner gave me his business card promising a $15 oil change next time I came in. They seemed nice enough so I went in for the oil change, and since I needed to get my snow tires put on, too, I asked them to do that while they were at it. You know the routine: put the snow tires on the front, put my regular tires in the trunk. So I leave the garage and the next day upon getting groceries I realize, they didn't put my tires back in my trunk. Long story short: they threw them away. I called, visited them four times, before they finally gave me two tires. The mechanic insisted they were new as he put them in the trunk, and acted insulted as I pulled out a penny to test the tread. "They are NEW," he says. "Okay," I say. I get home and realize only one of the two tires was NEW. The tire he put in first, the tire I didn't test before I left the lot, has no tread and probably wouldn't even pass inspection. Negligence is one thing. But it's another thing to make a $100 mistake and when asked to fix it, purposefully provide only a $50 solution. There are plenty of garages in Waltham and although I've never been to any others, I advise you to stay away from this place. read more
