West Coast Watercraft Club in SoCal

West Coast Watercraft Club returned to Walter's Camp last weekend for our 7th Annual year of enjoying the smooth waters of the Colorado... Brian and Rob did a fantastic job making sure our club members received A+ service upon arrival. The staff was courteous, professional and helpful. When our group of hungry watercrafter's pulled into the marina Brian, Rob and Robert had pre-loaded 5 gallon fuel jugs at the ready and had fuel pumps dispensing gas into 20 jet skis at 11 gallons each. During the fill up our members ordered pizza's and enjoyed their 2 hour break at Walter's Camp. When the rain stopped we were on our way back to Yuma, AZ. The next day was a bit more tedious as we had a more strict schedule to follow due to time constraints. We were traveling 160 miles round trip and Walter's Camp crew had to be ready for us. We arrived about an hour later than expected, and the crew helped to fill 22 watercrafts each fueling about 11 gallons. We left Walter's Camp heading for Blythe, CA where there was no fuel, we used our gasoline racks we had custom built for our skis. I called Robert twice to let him know we will be arriving at 4:30pm, after a group photo. We dashed back to Walter's Camp to refuel. Upon arrival after 80 miles of the trip, Walter's Camp crew was ready once again to fill those hungry jet skis and get us on our way back to Yuma. Darkness was approaching and it was critical we got back before 7PM. I want to express how thrilled I am with the new management at Walter's Camp making our experience pleasurable for all of our members. I did not hear one complaint about the weekend and we hope to return again this year. http://www.meetup.com/West-Coast-Watercraft-Club-in-Southern-California/

Best place ever!! In on a Wednesday with a group of friends from San Diego. Beautiful place on the River. Life is slow and easy...

I have been going to Walters Camp every summer since I was a little girl. This place has camping available right on the river. If you have an RV and a ski boat, I guarantee you will have a great time. The sad part is I've seen this place go from well kept to run down in the past 15 years. Yeah the dirt road sucks, but you get to launch your boat right on the river. The food in the store is out of date and the gas is very expensive. Cool location, but bring your own supplies.

Found this amazing campsite via a friend. Its the perfect location for boating, offroading, fishing, and camping. The owners have put a lot of work into the camp store and the campsites facilities which help make it a great family environment. Spent a few days here and will be back soon! Highly recommend.

We love the river Usually had fun there Most the people and staff r understanding and the same even in a click Wonderful place to visit

This is one of the most beautiful campground locations I've ever been to. And being southern California, and not high desert, it makes for warmer camping even during winter months. You can't imagine how brightly and vividly you will see the stars and milky way. The hosts are so friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable about the local geography and wildlife. We will remember this amazing experience.

Ask the Community - Walter's Camp

Would this be a bad area for a deep V hull boat? We've tried Blythe and had to go so slow to not hit the bottom. We tend to stay further north. Thanks!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to us. Not knowing the boat you run it is tough to say. However, we have folks running larger V hull boats all the time in this section of the river. We had a 26 foot boat with I/O drive last year that did not… Read more

We like the location because it is more mellow than Havasu or Parker, but still has amazing scenery and an awesome stretch of river.

Cable didn't work and when we went to the office to discuss they provided a Cable box. That didn't work either. WI-FI, its an open WI-FI so service is spotty and we had very little of it. So when they advertise WI-FI just know there isn't a password. You may or may not get Cable i guess it depends on spot your in. We were just told a water main broke so we have a little pressure tonight. Water being shut off tomorrow morning and service starting about noon. WHAT ??? now no water!!! When we were given our initial spot they were putting us in a place where there was a fire hydrant in the middle of it, obviously we weren't gonna fit and had to call emergency line to speak to someone to move us. He was great and we were given another spot. But... no cable!!! For the price we paid we won't be back. Its too bad the resort itself seems decent and the people in surrounding spots friendly. Alot of people are here fulltime and they have homes and rental cabins. Not our cup of tea. Should have just gonna to Parker i think. Sorry Arizona Oasis, we've been to much nice for less and full hookups with cable and WI-FI were just that.

Sally showed us how to get to the geode beds & Opal mine. She also showed us what to look for and what rocks can be found in the area. Can't wait to go back! Cons: NOTHING Note: Keep food locked/packed at night! There are animals that come around at night looking for food. We locked our coolers in truck bed, but found animal poop on the table. They were obviously looking for food. But they keep to themselves, did not wake us up or make noise. The road to get to campground is awful (dirt, bumpy), so go SLOW! If you are heading to the Hauser geode bed and Opal mine, you will need a high clearance vehicle!!!! No exceptions!!! There are some gnarly dips and creek/river crossings!

If you can get over that it makes for an interesting visit though. Because the desert is less interesting than Death Valley and Joshua Tree this is about as isolated as one can get in Southern California. On a Sunday at the end of March, when the campground is at its nicest, there were only two or three groups camping out of a total of more than twenty camp sites. The road in was reasonable for a two wheel drive vehicle, I got there in a Prius without trouble. However you won't be able to make it on any of the other nearby roads. Without four wheel drive a lot of the attractions such as the geode beds will be a prohibitively long walk. There was a little bit of Verizon cell phone coverage, but no AT&T.
