A great place to play Bingo. I mean it, after yesterday's game I am hooked! Bingo is played here…read moreevery second Sunday, and each time it benefits a different charity. I paid $12 for one packet of Bingo games, and had fun playing with some friends for about three hours total. Next month I want to come again! Remember to bring cash to purchase bingo games, extra games, and to purchase drinkies and snacks from the snack bar. There were nachos, hot dogs, and chips available yesterday. Beer, wine, and soda were available drinkies. They also had free water and coffee provided. If you don't have your own dobber for Bingo they provide free rentals, but you can also buy one for $1 in cash. They also have raffles included with your Bingo packet, so hang on to that ticket. I won a bottle of Sobon Cab Sauv in one of the raffle drawings yesterday! :-) They have bathrooms downstairs and upstairs too, and though it does get busy we were easily able to find five seats together. Of course, two of us did show up early. For next time I will remember to again arrive early and bring cash for this cash only event. If you have never played legit Bingo before, they are patient and helpful. It is beginner friendly with many helpers available and walking around the room. Highly recommend! Yay Bingo! Outside food is fine. Street parking.

Ultimately, I think this is an awesome resource in our community! I love that various groups and communities are able to rent out the space for whatever the need. I also love all of the community events that they put on. From Bingo to movie nights, I love the effort they are putting into creating an awesome community space. The building itself is a bit out dated, but it is well maintained.

We came to Davis today to participate in the: California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic…read moreArts (CCACA). I love this event and we come to it every year from the past x number of years. This year they gathered 99.9% of all the student exhibits into the old Whole Foods store across the street from John Natsoulas Gallery. It was a perfect location. Instead of searching all over Davis trying not to miss and exhibit it was all in one place this time. It put off a differnt vibe, which was unique of course. The connivence was great, but I do miss having them divided up so you could focus on one school a a time. This new format has its pros and cons. I love the student exhibits of this Conference the best. You can sign up for demonstrations and lectures if you want, I haven't yet, but many people do and it's a wonderful opportunity. Schools all over California visit. The farthest school we came across is San Diego, but there may be farther schools. Both High Schools and Collage participate. I love them both. Some of those High School students are amazing and out do the Collage Students. All students come and look around for further inspiration. Years ago I used to dabble in ceramics. As a kid I loved taking Ceramics classes in the Community Center. As an adult I used to go to Verge Gallery of the Arts and participated in their open ceramics studio, which I loved. I really should get back into it. I had fun back in the day. There were several schools that created chains out of class. I found that really fascinating. I'd like to try that technique out. One of the Walnut Creek exhibitors crocheted a basket out of yarn and dipped it in Slip (LiquId Clay), and stuck a balloon it it so when it dried it would be poofy. It was so facinating.

After the performance, they were nowhere to be found. An hour before this, I went back, and it was in the lost and found! Before looking, the lady asked me about the sizes and colors. I appreciate that, because she wanted to make sure that I was the true owner of the clothing articles. I'm lame for doing this review, but I'm so happy I got the stuff back!!! Also, someone mentioned that lighting was bad. I've gone to several dress rehearsals and the staff patiently work with us to make sure we performers get what we prefer :) I'm going to miss performing at DDR at Freeborn Hall :(

For lu'au every year, I'm pleased with the tables of eight and how they are laid yet (and yet there's enough room for dancers to go through tables!). For shows like DDR, I like the seating on the main floor, and the seating on the side. For dance rehearsals, w00t for accommodating Freeborn staff! Minor grip-age, if you will: why is the dance room at the ARC technically bigger than Freeborn's stage?? Yeah, makes it's a tad bit difficult/ANNOYING that that is the case. You practice your steps and placement 1231800x only to discover that you need to downsize your steps. [end gripe]

We visited UC Davis so my daughter could take a look at the campus. It's one of the schools she is…read moreconsidering applying to. This is the largest and most spread out campus we visited. There is a lot of walking involved. This is the place to rack up Fitbit steps. Many students ride their bikes around campus, and there are many bike circles (roundabouts) at intersections to help keep traffic flowing smoothly. I think everyone should come here to learn how to manœuvre around a roundabout (especially people who shop at Costco Santa Clara because they can not figure out the new roundabout they installed in the parking lot). The campus has changed quite a bit over the decades. There are many new buildings, and many old ones being demolished. There is a large new visitor parking lot and a nice Visitor Center near it. The visitor center is a good place to grab a map and make a comfort stop before exploring the campus. You can also schedule a tour before you arrive. There is a mini gift shop at the Visitor Center. I suggest going to the store at the MU for a larger selection of gifts and souvenirs. Check out the arboretum (near the Visitor Center) if you have time. The Memorial Union is the center of the universe. You'll find student services, a place to pick up or return Amazon packages, the bookstore/gift shop, the game room (it's downstairs; has bowling, billiards and gaming computers), and most importantly food and coffee. Another place to find food is at the Silo, where there are some food vendors indoors and food trucks outdoors. We visited various dorm buildings on campus and also off campus housing. We even saw cows near Tercero (dorm). And also checked out downtown Davis, which is no longer the "sleepy" downtown I remembered it to be decades ago. There's definitely a wider variety of restaurants in Davis today. Trader Joe's is near campus, how cool is that? The Chem 194 building (large lecture hall) has been renamed to Rock Hall. The steps out front leading up to the front doors seem much shallower than I remembered them to be. In my mind, the steps were more numerous, similar to the steps in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (think: Rocky movie). Ok, my memory must be fuzzy, after all, it was a long time ago since I was an undergrad here.... This would be a good place to go for the college town experience, with the pleasant side effect of graduating with a decent education... but does this really matter? How many of us go on to do something that is related to what we studied in college? It's more about the journey, the experiences we have and the people we meet along the way. .
