In my opinion, HomeDepot is more for construction workers, Lowes is for those looking for better quality and Menards is totally upscale and beats them both hands down. Before relocating from Keego Harbor, MI to San Angelo we purchased 2 ceiling fans for our San Angelo condo. Not sure what happened during our chaotic move, we discovered that one light didn't work after installing them in our condo a month after moving in. I emailed Menards customer service and explained that we purchased them in MI and installed them in TX with no way to easily return/exchange it for another fan. Menards doesn't have a store (yet) in TX. Linda w/Menards customer service took the bull by the horns and within 2 weeks we received not 1 but 2 light replacements for the ceiling fans. Talk about GREAT out of state customer service! Menards is simply the BEST. They could have said "you need to return the defective fan for a refund".

But I needed a garbage disposal, and the store is at a convenient location, so I went in and got excellent service from a man in the plumbing department, who took a lot of time to compare two different versions of the same brand garbage disposal and go over the pros and cons of each of them with me, allowing me to make the best decision. He was amazing. Unfortunately, when my plumber opened the box to install the unit the next day, he discovered that a part was missing, so I had to take it back to Home Depot to exchange it. Again, a very helpful man in the plumbing department assisted me, opening the box this time to ensure that all the parts were there before I exchanged it. Both times, the woman in Customer Service called for someone to meet me in the plumbing department, and they came right away. I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that could have made my experience better would have been receiving a small discount for my inconvenience of having to return the garbage disposal that was missing a part. It really was an inconvenience, as my plumber was waiting and it was very heavy and hard for me to return. The Customer Service woman said I couldn't have a discount because I was exchanging the item. She said that if I was purchasing it, I could have a discount. That made no sense at all. At any rate, the service at the store seems to have improved a lot.

Imbued with this "buy local" spirit, I drove to the store to purchase a product priced $30 higher than I would have paid on Amazon. The person who worked in paint on Aug 13, 2022 at 3:30pm, who asked if they could help me, turned out to be condescending, demeaning and downright rude, leaving me no choice but to walk out of the store, extremely agitated and frustrated, and with great restraint, not irate. I then went to Great Lakes Ace in Novi, and by stark contrast, the service I received in Novi was stellar, making for a very pleasant 5* experience. It doesn't take much to treat a customer right to build loyalty and advocacy. But when the customer has been wronged, they will go out of their way to take their business elsewhere. The people here are so friendly and super helpful. I recently found out they have a personalizing engraving machine that you can use on miscellaneous gifts like cutting boards and Yeti drink ware. So we came here to get a couple Yeti items. We found some light lavender cups, one small high ball for coffee and one large tumbler for water and had the best time customizing them. You can do pictures and words and even import your own images and each item took only a few minutes to engrave. So adorable. It was also very reasonably priced and you can even bring your own to get personalized, you do not have to buy it there. They also have a nice variety of BBQ's and even pizza ovens. They even demoed the pizza the other day, it looked and smelled spectacular. This place is located in a very convenient area, easy to get in and out. I love shopping here.

The manager of the service desk was unable to answer my question unless I walked around to the entrance to the service desk. When I did finally reached the front of the line , the service desk employee could not find anyway to help me and needed to asked the manager(same person standing in the isle I had previously asked for assistance) Finally an employee showed up to help make a duplicate key but it so happened to be this same employee that I had encountered earlier when I had asked for assistance locating 2" furnace filters, he must have been having a bad day and was short and angry dealing with me so i gathered they do not sell 2" filters in store. Relative to the store, it has all the basic stuff you would expect from a hardware store like Hardware, electrical, plumbing, tools etc and also offers some unique stuff Like Traegger smoker Grilles/supplies/pellets and a full assortment of Stihl power tools that you will not find in the bigger home improvement chains. Ace also have a free rewards program where you get periodic cash awards for use with purchases at their store and has some great sales. On this particular trip I purchased Scotts four step fertilizer 5000 square ft program for $65 dollars (regular $85) which is a great price and used a $5 rewards card to further lower this cost. You can't touch this cost anywhere else and is much cheaper than the $300 lawn service I used to use. Also I bought some Traegger cherry wood pellets for my smoker for the same cost that you can get it on line and avoided the shipping cost. Overall a great alternative to the big chain stores especially if closer to your home.

Service is always there without having to look for 10 minutes like the big box stores. Quality is always worth the extra price and clearance after the season is cheap for the quality. The product selection is also much varied than the big box in what you come to get. Having 2 entrances , 1 off of Maple using the bank entrance and directly off Orchard Lake to the big parking lot. While it is not the biggest of the chain, it is not the smallest either. Will be back when I need any plants or decor.
