It surprises me that so many people think this is a great restaurant, my wife and I have eaten here several times since they opened and have never been overly impressed. The steaks are not as good as Conners or The Chop House, the appetizers are over priced for what you get, and their drink prices are extremely high based on the pour you get. So if your up for average quality food, and high priced cocktails this place is for you!! The atmosphere is very nice, the restaurant layout is a bit odd, but overall a nice woodsy, barn, country atmosphere. I'd wish them good luck, but enough people have already drank the cool aid so I'm sure they do fine! read more

First the good: the interior is really well done, with a nice open layout. Popped sorghum is an excellent 'local flavor' touch that was surprisingly good. Service was prompt and efficient, and the food tasted very nice. Now the bad: my steak came out very overcooked; I ordered medium rare, and it came out well done. This is steak cooking 101: know how to cook a steak to order. My wife's hamburger was similarly over cooked. They took the food back and remade it, and gave us an appetizer (corn fritters) for free; that's fine and all, but I didn't want a free appetizer, even though the fritters were excellent. Not once did a manager come out and apologize, which is the minimum expectation in a restaurant at this price point. Overall I probably will go back; as I noted, the food tasted excellent. The burger is in my top five I've ever tasted. But I suggest a little focus by the management on the little touches that make an experience memorable. read more

My wife and I went to Walnut Kitchen to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was the first time for both of us, but it won't be the last. The ribeye steaks were wonderful, and the wait staff (thanks Gracie!!) was friendly, helpful, and always caring for whatever we needed. I can't recommend it more highly!! read more

We went to Walnut Kitchen last night for our anniversary. We were seated in the back room in a corner and it was cozy and quiet. The waiter was the best! We started out with an appetizer to share. It was the pear pie. It was so creative and delicious! I ordered the filet with Wedge Salad and stuffed potato. Both were delicious! My filet was melted in my mouth. So good! My husband ordered the special salmon which he loved. Our waiter suggested we purchase a nice bottle of red wine to go with our meal. Excellent choice. Finally we split the banana cheesecake. Very good! Small but enough. We will definitely be back! read more

Excellent! Great atmosphere and delicious food. They have an old fashion that is a prefect balance of sweet and whiskey. Their whiskey list is extensive. Try the chicken lollipops. I would have taken a picture, but they were snatched up quickly by the friends that had eaten there before. read more

Visited the Walnut Kitchen in Feb, 2017 after hearing mixed reviews. First thing I noticed is the generic "trendy" decor. Tries too hard to be "hipster chic". Next, I was aware that this was a pricey restaurant, and this is probably just my preference, but the waitstaff dress was more suitable for a small local coffee shop than an upscale dining experience. On to the food. I got the Cider Brined Pork Tenderloin ($26) but since I'm allergic to cinnamon I skipped the apple chutney. Tenderloin and andouille is served over grits. The meats were both tasty and prepared well. Andouille is smoked in house. Grits portion was way too small. And I had not ordered and appetizer so entire meal left me wanting. My wife got the aged beef filet ($34) with sweet potatoes and hazelnut side. She said it was one of the best steaks she had ever eaten. Side was equally tasty. So why the low score? Two things: The waitstaff and price:serving ratio. First, Staff seemed indifferent and lackadaisical. We are not alcohol drinkers so we just ordered water. I think this offended them. If we wanted water refills we had to seek out the waitstaff (not an easy task) and ask for it. We noticed a nearby table that ordered burgers and beer, cocktails, wine always had a waiter hovering about. Second, the price to portion ratio. The portion of tenderloin and andouille I received was very small as was the accompanying grits. My wife's steak was adequate but side was quite small. Pseudo-hipster decor, small portions and lacking waitstaff equals no return visit. Perhaps if I had order a burger and fries ($16) and alcohol I may have upped my score some. We had a great experience here tonight. I highly suggest you give this place a try. We loved the atmosphere, service we received from Gianna, and most importantly the food! The portions were very generous, and the meal very fresh. We started off with the chicken pops and then ordered filet with a couple of sides, and finished with the cheesecake topped with pineapple. My wife and I dined at The Walnut Kitchen for a late Mother's day dinner. Our waitress was attending to a large party; however, instead of waiting several minutes to be welcomed another waitress stopped by to attend to ours needs while our waitress was occupied elsewhere. We had two cocktails that were spot on, not too strong and with an excellent blend of flavor. We then had the house cornbread, which was according to my wife, "better than Grandma's". I had the 14oz. Ribeye(mid-rare) and my wife had the fried snapper sandwich. Everything was perfect, taste, presentation, timing, service. Lastly the price was extremely reasonable. Considering the quality and freshness of the food coupled with the atmosphere and vibe I was expecting a fairly hefty bill. Contrary to that expectation the bill was quite a bit less. We were very impressed with the presentation, service, and food quality and flavor. What a great evening we had. Every one of us had an exceptional experience. The cocktails were amazing. When we got back home, I realized I had forgotten my wallet there. We called, and they eventually located it. Natasha was just as excited that she found it as we were. My son and husband drove right back to claim it. Of course she didn't want to accept a finders fee, but we insisted. She didn't have a choice. We were so grateful. Meh. Undercooked scallops, undercooked steak. Everything was very salty. I would say the best thing we had there was the pimento cheese appetizer. The service was just as disappointing as well as the $12 glass of Riesling that was about 2.5 ounces of wine at most. My wife left this same criticism with the online reservation system used to make the reservation. No one has contacted us regarding it. Oh well, I was REALLY hoping it would be a much better experience. We need places like this in Maryville but I can not recommend this one to anyone. For the price we paid for the meal, we could have had way better at another restaurant. read more

Food was ok but not great when we went a year ago. We had heard of this restaurant on TV and my dad wanted to try it out for his birthday. We enjoyed our meal and like watching the kitchen work. Food wise it was good but nothing to write home about. Would go again if asked but would not be my first choice for a steak restaurant in Maryville. Longhorn Steakhouse has a WAY better quality of steak then this place also for the amount of food you get the price dose not reflect the quality you get ( couple be a WHOLE lot cheeper for the quality. ) read more

Overall an Outstanding experience . Locally sourced meats and vegetables are prepared to perfection. Highlights were the Fried Chicken Lollipops, Lamb Chops, and Duck. The atmosphere was lively and jam packed, was glad we scored a private room for the 6 of us. There is also a countertop chefs 'table' beside the open Kitchen that looked like a great experience, good to know for next time! The overall experience was good. Nice ambiance, server was pretty decent, but it was overpriced for the food. The chicken lollipops were fantastic for an appetizer, but the steaks were all cooked under. My wife and I both had the strip while my mother in law and daughter had the sirloin. My steak was great (I like rare/med rare) but the rest were all a stage under what they ordered. The hoppin John, Mac and chz, and fries were all tasty but the sides were a bit overpriced for the portions. Same for the desserts. The desserts were insanely good, but the price point was way to high for the portion. Overall I would say to give it a try, but I feel like we will not make it a regular restaurant. read more

First off, let me say the overall food and drink experience was wonderful. That being said, it was our first time, and when we walked in, there was not a welcome or a feeling of direction. We got seated, and it was a few minutes before our waiter showed up to ask for drink orders or to welcome us or give us a menu. Once that was done, things got better. Sunday brunch menu that had good options from tomato salad to steak and eggs. My life mate had biscuit and gravy and I had steak and eggs. My steak was the best steak I've had anywhere in a long long time. Cooked perfect, seasoned perfect and so very tender. The bloody marys were excellent, but a bit pricey. Our server Jake was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and took great care of us. Food was amazing, and everything tasted so fresh. I came here earlier this year with my aunt and uncle and had an amazing experience. Had the charcuterie board and chicken lollipops for main course, we tried the ribeye, the filet, and the pork porterhouse chop and good night was the steak good, but the pork chop threw me for a loop it was so good. The drinks were priced very well and the service was second to none. Want to get the quality of a Blackberry Farms meal at a fraction of the price while also not stuffing Betsy DeVos' pockets? Fantastic whiskey selection and great food. Have Stagg, Pappy 15, WL Weller, Eagle 17, and a lot more at reasonable prices. I had a ribeye and broccolini and it was great. Service was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. My steak came out more rare than I preferred, and they were very gracious in taking it back and cooking it more to my liking. I believe the restaurant is new, the interior was spacious and inviting. The hostess was able to accommodate us arriving 30 min early to our reservation. Our server was so sweet and knowledgeable. We ordered a few appetizers and split a steak. The Butcher Board was definitely a highlight for us, the quality and size was impressive for the price point.
