I waited to try Walnut Grill until almost a year after they had originally opened because I heard such bad things about the food and service, so I figured by now they would have the kinks figured out. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The restaurant was very clean and inviting, but it seemed only one section of seating was open since all the tables in the restaurant were grouped in the same vicinity. I would have had no problem with this if it was super early or super late since sections close and servers come and go for their shifts, but this was at 6 pm on a weekday. The menu denotes lots of happy hour options, but I had to ask the server about it and was not initially told about anything. I ordered a mule on happy hour which I never received. As for food, the menu is pricier than other nearby options, but I have no problem paying more for higher quality. The problem I had here was that the food was not great. For my entree, I had the tuna bowl. For nearly $20, I expected a generous piece of ahi and was sadly disappointed with the portion- it looked like a tuna tartare appetizer placed on top the bowl. I didn't personally like all of the toppings in the bowl, and poke is typically one of my favorite entrees. The mango salsa was hands down the best part. Other people in my party got the fried chicken wrap, pulled pork nachos, and potstickers. The wrap was pretty disappointing as well at a $16 price point. The potstickers were excellent and the nachos were pretty good which bumped this review from 1 to 2 stars. Service was more than slow and he only appeared to have one other table and they also seemed to struggle to get service. Like I mentioned, I never got my alcoholic beverage, and we only got water refills after we got our checks. He was nice, but our server never checked on us after being out our food, and we were finished eating for about 15 minutes before he even returned to ask about the check. This place could be good, but the food quality is disappointing and the service could be greatly improved. I may return to sit at the bar and take advantage of the happy hour offerings, but I won't be returning for food anytime soon. read more

Stay away! We met up with good friends for a casual dinner. The restaurant was not overly busy. There was a live band, Smoke and Mirrors, that was too loud for the space. We couldn't hear each other speak; more importantly our waitress couldn't hear our order. It took over 30 minutes to get our bar order. When it finally arrived it was wrong. God knows what red wine we were served. I ordered a 6 oz pour, my husband ordered a 9 oz pour. They came out exactly the same, in the same size glass. Two 6 oz pours. Our meals took 90 minutes to arrive. One ordered the fried cod with side salad, two ordered chicken Cobb salads and I ordered the bbq salmon bowl. We received three Cobb salads and the salmon. The Cobb salads were tasteless. The floor manager dropped by our table and we were honest about all the mix ups. She insisted on comping the cod dinner and taking 15% off of our bills. The bills arrived. They were charged for the cod dinner because he ate the Cobb salad. No 15% discount. Our bill was charged two 9 Oz wines (we received two 6 oz pours) plus another 9 oz glass. No 15% discount. It took 20 minutes to correct the bill. The one bright thing was my bbq salmon was good. read more

We stopped in Saturday morning around 11 for some Bloodies and Bennies for a lil RnR, mmm... Gotta take a min for some nostalgia and talk about how incredible WG Shadyside was when all the college buddies still ran it. The food was amazing and many of the meals were curated by a creative chef with flair! The interior was fun and whimsical plus the Meatloaf Wellington was heavenly, JS Not the case at the new Apple Bee's thing that's going on... We ordered Bloody Mary's and Eggs Beney each with mussels to share. Funny side note: they offer their version of a classic beney subbing in candied bacon and offer a California version too which adds spinach to the classic option. Avocado may have also been part of the alternate option. I love a good Eggs Benedict and generally order it when it's on the menu. Presentation was good and the food quality was good, except the potatoes tasted so fishy. There was something not tasty about the dish, maybe the hollandaise?!? Tbh tho I couldn't decipher it over the tongue paralysis from how much salt was in the mussels. Holy shit there was so much salt in the mussels that we stopped eating everything AND who leaves mussels behind? ORRR Hollandaise?!? We did enjoy the drinks! The Bloodies were so good we ordered a second round! I mean, if I can get the vitamins from the meal, at least the beverages were full of nutrients! The server was super pleasant and chatty. He did seem a little surprised that we were dissatisfied and said he would send the manager over. Manager just comp'ed half the check and opt'd not to have the face to face. Totally down with that too. #RIPWGShadyside read more

Ww took mom here for mom's day brunch. They offered a buffet, which included breakfast and lunch items. Our server was lovely and did her best, which led me to give a 3 stars. My mom ordered a mimosa- she said she did not taste any champagne in the drink. We had to wait for plates to get food- and many times when we did get plates- they were dirty. And then we had no silverware and the wait was really long for that. There were no napkins. Our server got us cocktail napkins. The food was being filled constantly, but it was slow. You had to wait a while for things. During our whole meal, the french toast was never filled. The bacon was good and crispy. I think they rushed some food- the eggs benedict were cold and I got them as soon as they came out. The prime red appeared and tasted like it was not cooked at all. And I like my meat rare- but this was more than that. My parents enjoyed the dessert and pasta salad. I never got to try the soup because there was never a bowl. It was disappointment for the price. read more

The restaurant is very nice clean and has an four star level ambiance. My waitress had one whole side of the restaurant but she was super nice and outgoing and taking it in stride excellent service from her. The wait for my fish tacos was over an half an hour so I'd avoid dining in on lunch. The food was disappointing, considering how nice everything was I expected top of the shelf seafood. But ti be honest I've had better fish tacos at long John silvers. At over 20 bucks that's just not good enough. I'm sure I'll give them another try because the place felt very welcoming and I hope a different dish maybe give a fuller context. read more

Place is staffed with the most incompetent people I've ever encountered at a restaurant. I've been here a few times and they never get things right. My wife and I both ordered the sweet and spicy chicken and when to got it there was no sweet sauce on it at all. To add to this experience my French onion soup I ordered with my meal had no onions in it. You'd think I'm making this up but I'm not. This is just this encounter. The last time we were here I ordered a steak medium. Well let's just say my steak was definitely under sized, charred on one side and rare in the middle. On a positive note their outdoor section is really nice. read more

Almost didn't give this place a chance due to reviews; I typically base my decision off of the reviews. However I room a chance because of the menu options. Very happy we did! The food was amazing!! Plated well, fresh, and great portions. I had the Blueberry Mango salad (no pic), so delicious and fresh! We also had the fried Brussels sprouts; definitely recommend. My husband ordered the Chicken and waffle sandwich after seeing someone else's, he loved it! The service was only okay... I think our server may have been newer; she wasn't that great. Very nice young lady though. Also, the hostess was not very welcoming. I still would recommend it you're a foodie. read more

Blood orange margarita was straight vodka and a water with a slight drop of some other liquid. Terrible. Had to ask for napkins and silverware, waited for at least 5 minutes for waitress to bring. Food mediocre at meat. read more

Went to this place for the first time this week for lunch and loved our meal. Interior is a little stark and cold but the vibe is industrial so that's to be expected. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with the menu. Had a crab cake and hands down --- BEST crab cake I've ever eaten! We also got the roasted brussel sprout appetizer with candied pecans, blue cheese crumbles and a balsamic reduction drizzle.... Fantastic! Would have given it 5 stars but the atmosphere was for a younger crowd. read more

We had a family dinner here this week and the food was hit and miss. Some was good, hamburger, chicken and gnocchi, some was not. The steak was so small and so was the shrimp. The shrimp and pasta had no flavor. They could t decide which wine they had, any took forever to bring it. read more

I really don't even know where to start! We showed up around noon on Saturday. There was no greeter or hostess at the front door. Once we arrived at our table, we were greeted quickly after by what appeared to be a kind and competent server. He seemed knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations. We ordered our drinks (one soda, and 2 drinks from the bar), it took at least 15 minutes to get our drinks. Mind you there was only a few tables filled. So there was plenty of wait staff, honestly I believe that their staff out numbered their patrons. We ordered the prime rib sandwich (which was suggested), it was served without aus jus and was dry, Buffalo chicken wrap, which had entirely too much buffalo sauce on it, and the California Turkey wrap, there was no avocado on it. We weren't provided a opportunity to discuss our issues with our server. He never returned after he served our meals to make sure everything was okay. So we made due. When he finally returned we voiced our concerns, to which he was very dismissive We should've known there was an issue since their parking lot was empty. read more

Nice new Walnut Grill. There is a large outdoor patio for other times of the year. I tend to get a salad when at a Walnut Grill because I enjoy the salads. Had the Carmelized Walnut salad and was very happy with it. read more

We waited 45minutes for beet salad and soup. We got the attention of our waitress and asked her if we were ever going to get our food. She filled my iced tea but did give me any ice until I asked. The other 2 in the party never got a refill of water. She never checked on us futon the 45 minute wait. 2 of us ordered the roasted beet salad , one with chicken that was waaaay overcooked. There were no visible beets so we asked for some. She brought us 10 cubed beets from a can . The gargonzola was tasteless. She said we were waiting on my sisters fish that was lukewarm at best. The cole slaw was rancid. She finally gave us our bill and had added $2 for the canned beets!!!! We asked to speak to the manager and waited about 15 more minutes. My sister finally went to the kitchen and the manager told her to wait he was taking off the charge for the beets. She told him we had been waiting since we got there. He was laughing and joking with the wait staff and told her to just leave. We did and will never return. Rude behavior and terrible service of lousy food. 0 stars if I could have left that in the review. Steer clear. This was a disaster. read more

They brought 5 orders out of our table of 6. When asked where the other order was, their explanation was "somehow it got separated from the rest of the ticket. I'm very sorry, I'll bring it out to you as soon as it's ready." 15 minutes later the order was brought out, and the eggs were so undercooked they were still raw. When the manager brought out the new order of eggs, it was a very quick apology and no comps were even offered. I heard two other tables in our dining area pretty much get the same quick apology for one reason or another. Won't be back. Don't waiste your money. read more

Having lived in the Pittsburgh area most of our lives we found Walnut Grill to be one of our favorites. We moved to the west coast 10 years ago and upon a recent trip we recommended Walnut Grill to friends for "lunch". Had we been there any longer it would have been a midnight snack. We waited over an hour, after ordering, for our food to arrive. It was mediocre at best. Our 8 year old granddaughter even made comment to the waiter that she had been very patient. This was the understatement of the century. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone who doesn't have hours to kill before dining. read more

The restaurant was clean in the seating & bar area. The waitstaff were pleasant. I ordered a hamburger, medium with lettuces and onion. There a tomato and no onion. The burger was well done and over seasoned to the point of a very salty taste and grease was running out of it. read more

Great place to come with a large group. We were visiting from MN and came here with our girls soccer team and 7 adults. They sat the girls at one table and the parents at another. We really appreciated that. We did have to pay with one check. Wish they would have done a check for each player. Still would highly recommend but be prepared to have someone pay for everyone. FOOD... Very good. The girls (as well as parents) were very happy with the selections and price range of $7-$18. SERVICE... Very good. No complaints. Our server was awesome. Thank you! read more

This place is the definition of average. Everything is just ok. The service, the food, just everything. I've been to several Walnut Grills and this one is my least favorite. Update: We gave them another chance on 7/25/22. It was actually worse than last time. The bread took forever to arrive and was warm but seemed frozen and re-heated. I had to ask for the one salad to be brought out before the food. The salad took 20 minutes and was served on a warm plate with wilted lettuce. It was not even edible. Two of us had the crab cakes. They were tiny with a tiny little smear of sauce under them, not even enough to actually taste it. They were ridiculously salty. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than actually working. It's shocking this place is still open. We all agreed that we will never return. This place needs need to close or get completely new management. read more

We were sitting waiting 30 mins before we even got our drinks, didn't get to put in our food order until 40 mins. Appetizers came out before our drinks did! didn't get our silverware until 2 minutes after we even got our food. Couldn't tell you our waitresses name, and gave us a cracked glass. Our collection of plates were never taken away from our table, and neither was the tables around us cleaned and taken care of. Food was good but service was awful. Blows my mind. read more

I haven't been to the Walnut grill in a long time and decided to grab an early dinner while out with my hubby. I heard they have made some great changes and wanted to give them another try. So glad we did!! The service, drinks and food were fantastic! I had the Caramelized Walnut salad with added grilled chicken and my husband had the Walnut Salmon. They were both delicious! I mean really delicious! The salmon and chicken were cooked to perfection! I added in a Blackberry Mule and it was honestly the best mule I've ever had. Add in kind and attentive servers and it was really a fantastic night out. So happy to have another great restaurant choice in Washington! We'll be back! read more

Food was good. Service was friendly. Brussels sprouts and fish sandwich was good. Would pass on the creme brulee French toast.

Went to walnut grill for brunch today with family. We each ordered simple breakfasts: eggs, toast, bacon, etc. It took an hour for ONE of the breakfasts to be delivered to the table (for reference the restaurant was about 1/5 full). The other breakfasts arrived about 10 minutes after the first breakfast. We've eaten here numerous times and have had very hit or miss service but lately everyone appears to be checked out. We won't be back. read more

Walnut Grill - 6 oz. Prime Sirloin Steak Combo - American Near Me - Washington, Pennsylvania

We just left this place. We waited forever at the hostess stand before finally walking to the bar and asking if we were supposed to seat ourselves. The hostess magically appeared then but had to clean a table for us even though there were several clean already in the bar area. Then that was it. We never saw another soul. No waitress, no drinks, no one even acknowledged our presence. So, we left and walked across the parking lot to Olive Garden where we were greeted at the stand by a smiling hostess who seated us immediately and our waitress was right on her heels taking our drink order. Walnut Grill desperately needs a lesson in customer service. read more

My husband and I ate here on Saturday 10/23/21 for the first and last time. Our server was less than pleasant ( I gave her the benefit of the doubt as maybe they were short staffed). We waited at least 20 mins for our drinks to be brought out and that was after I asked another server to check on them. The appetizer was good and brought out when our drinks were delivered. Our entrees, while tasty, were brought to us about an hour after we ordered. I might add, no explanation or apology was given as to the delay. The food was definitely nothing to write home about and the service was unacceptable. It is rather expensive too... not worth the price, save your money and Ride on by and go somewhere else! read more

Nice place, good service, good food. Lots of screens for sports. Great burger and fries with lots of options.

My mom and I wanted to try this place out just to see what it was about. It looked great on the outside so we figured it should be worth a shot. The service wasn't bad at all, however I spotted many hiccups. One being that my beer was without a doubt sitting on the bar way too long. It didn't even have a head when I got it. It was still cold though so that's a bonus. The steak I ordered that was priced at $32 was completely over cooked to medium well when i asked for Rare, and it had an insane amount of char on it making it pretty difficult to eat. I just wasn't happy with this place, i hate to say it. read more

I'll begin with a sincere "thank you" to the Walnut Grill staff who gave up Thanksgiving with their loved ones to take care of those of us who chose to spend ours at their establishment. Now for the bad news. The food was terrible. The turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing tasted very similar to TV dinners I've had over the years and while I'm certainly fine with that sort of meal, I'd expect something a little better from Walnut Grill. Making matters worse, 2 turkey dinners, 1 glass of wine, and the tip came to nearly $100. I typically don't even pay attention to the cost of our meals (or much else for that matter), but I was hoping for a much better experience for my wife and I. Instead, we ate a sub-par meal and shared a forgettable experience. On the bright side, we are now back home, decorating the tree, having some wine, and enjoying a little Christmas music. read more

Previously we had a wonderful experience that was on a Sunday but was not a buffet. Once again we had a wonderful server who seated us named Lauren and the food was delicious. Had family in and tried them out NYE for breakfast/brunch. Made reservation on OpenTable for 7 at 11am. When we arrived the place had maybe 5 tables full. Our table was the only one with no plates and silverware rolled in napkins but not really concerned. Waitress came over 10 minutes later ordered drinks. 2 bloody Marys that took 15 minutes to get. We saw them sitting at bar. You would think bartender would bring them since it was not busy! Anyway they were actually really good. We ordered breakfast and after an hour and 20 minutes 5 plates came out! Waitress apologized they had a large party ?? Ok then. 10 minutes later last plates come out! We have no silverware just laughable at this point. So you would think ok I don't see many people here, bar is empty 3 other girls helped serve our food whatever is happening our food should be amazing! Well once we get our rolled silverware some are DIRTY. Have to wait for new. Still laughable. We start eating and 2 of the meals were TERRIBLE!!!! COULD NOT EAT IT. Another plate of pancakes burned and yey another breakfast burrito was "ok" but cold. Waitress comes over ask how e everything is... My response not very good which she pretty much knew. I mean this was ridiculous Now it gets even better Here comes mister manager so incredibly arrogant asking what's the issue. I told him and he came back pointing out to our food what he thought was acceptable!! Well now I am beside myself! So pissed off at this so called manager. Gave us all the excuses. Short staff! Call offs! His kitchen is now cleared out! What???!!!! Said his food is best in the city!! Dying. This went on until now I'm shaking and have to tell this cocky fill in the blanks how he needs to fix it. He walked away ANNOYED HE DID!! HE COMPED 2 MEALS NEVER CAME BACK TO TABLE . SO WHOEVER THIS IDIOT WAS IF HE IS STILL EMPLOYED Hi I heard you were not happy etc. I am really sorry for your bad experience all around, we have had some bad luck with staff. Let me see what I can do. Here is a.gift card to gift card for your patience and to give us a second chance and let me comp a few meals That's it, simple. But now I'm writing my very first review because myself and my family were that baffled and disgusted. So thanks for making me look bad with my out of state family, thanks for giving us the line"best in Pittsburgh I assure you we used it the rest of the day and night. Funny I told my mother in law last how horrible and she said why would you go there! They are not good" ... Shame, shame, shame! Feel sorry for the staff that has to deal with that manager. I stopped in to get something to eat and though the hostess was a sweetie it went down hill from there. Coffee well tasted like it was made with old dish water and barely warm. The hostess got me a new cup and all I can say was it was hot, no amount of creamer or sugar could make it drinkable. I ordered a fish sandwich, I mean how can you screw that up, they did. The coating was almost black and the inside barely warm, how does that happen. Frys were soggy, and all in all a very underwhelming experience.
