Associates throughout the store were knowledgeable, friendly, and cheerful, which truly added to the experience during a busy shopping season. There were plenty of sales and special pricing available, making it easy to find great values. The gun counter was extensive and well organized, and the associate working there was both knowledgeable and friendly. The electronics department was impressive with a wide selection, and the children's clothing section was especially large, offering many options for all ages. However, there was one major drawback that significantly impacted my visit. Another patron and I did not have our physical Star Cards with us and needed assistance retrieving our accounts. We were told there was only one person on duty who could access this information at night. Unfortunately, we were informed that this associate was working another job, arrived 40 minutes late, and that we simply had to wait. We were also told that we could drive to another location if we didn't want to wait--but that is not a reasonable expectation for shoppers who are already in-store and ready to purchase. To make matters worse, when the associate finally arrived, there was no apology for the delay. This staffing limitation and lack of accountability was frustrating and ultimately spoiled what otherwise would have been an excellent shopping experience. It makes little sense to have only one individual authorized to handle such an essential function, especially during evening hours and the holiday season. With better contingency planning and customer communication, this could easily be corrected--because aside from this issue, the MCX truly excels in many areas.

Inside, the men's room was clean and trash bins empty. Grocery section was fully stocked and tidy. I had no problem picking up snacks for the drive out to the barrier islands, finding exactly what I wanted and plenty of it. Now I have supplies! They close stores at 9 but only have 3 workers in the store working multiple areas with no help that are expected to close by 9:30. If a customer needs help in an area and there is no one scheduled to cover that area managers tell us to tell them we can not help and to leave. There is never any registers open because they are constantly under staffed, there is never any merchandise for online orders, and they prioritize online employees over in-store ones. They only care about making money, they do not care about their staff or you.

This commissary has great hours; their weekend hours are not as limited as some other commissaries…read moreand they open at 9am on Tuesdays and Saturdays and they close at 7pm on weekdays. I'm really impressed with the selection. The produce is lacking but that's par for the course at commissaries. There's a Walmart and a Food Lion just off base anyway. The organic section is awesome though. They carry a TON of different types of flours (tapioca, rice, almond, fava bean, gluten-free mix, etc) and cereals and some other unexpected products like flaxseed and xanthan gum. They also carry organic raw sugar in the regular baking products aisle. They don't have as many self checkouts as some other commissaries, but they have two self checkout lines with higher item count limits than usual (40 items and 100 items). The lines are consistently longer but the trade off is that you can still bag yourself even with a full cart.
