Unless you live under a rock you know that Walmart wants to be all things to all people! Of course, that includes hard liquor. In most of Florida, if liquor is sold by a grocery store, it must be isolated by the infamous liquor wall and is essentially an adjoining but separate space with its own entrance. That is the case here. All three of the grocery stores I patronize sell hard liquor in this way and I find them very similar. Atmosphere- Clean with good signage and lighting. Variety- Normally decent but currently a little depleted due to pandemic-related supply chain issues. Pricing- So similar to the others that for value, whichever one is convenient gets my business. Customer Service- Just fine. This one has two registers but only one is normally open except for the holidays. If I know what I want, I can be in and out in under five minutes. To me, compared to the competition, the only thing that differentiates these folks is that parking is less convenient so they get a solid three stars.

I bought a box of fried chicken and I'm disgusted! This is like mummified deep fried chicken! It has the texture I'd imagine sun dried roadkill would have. Walmart has consistently had terrible chicken but this is beyond bad! If we served this in the prison I worked at we would violate several human rights laws. You get ZERO stars! I wish I could give negative stars!

I strapped that baby on and moseyed on down to check it out! Arriving- It's on Avon Park's Main Street about a minute from US Route 27 and simple to find. There is a small parking lot complete with easy access for those needing a handicapped spot. Ambience- This is one of the most beautifully merchandised stores I've seen in some time. It's spotlessly clean and meticulously arranged. It was a true pleasure to wander around and check everything out. My pictures do not do it justice! Customer Service- I was greeted by a delightful young lady who expertly answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, she was unimpressed with my giant Yelp belt buckle, but I didn't hold that against her! Product- You come here for western clothes and accessories. Hats, boots, belts, shirts, and jeans. It's all there and so beautifully organized, it's easy to find your size. I'd say they are a mid-priced store. See my pic for some beautiful shirts that were on sale for $39. These folks are owned by locals, and I always appreciate that! If you are blowing through Highlands County and in the market for Western wear, you'd have a great experience here!

The items were then given to the people who worked on them or were resold. Goodwill's philosophy is "a hand up, not a hand out". Today Goodwill has become a $5 billion nonprofit organization that provides job training, employment, and community programs for people who have disabilities that might prevent them from getting a job on their own. I was in the area so I decided to check out this Goodwill in Sebring. It was completely different than any other Goodwill I have been to. They still had the same racks of clothes I am used to but they also carried a wide range of brand new household decor items including art, rugs, and decorations. One large part of the store was roped off and it contained hundreds of brand new Halloween costumes in bags. It was a far cry from the one rack of used mismatched costume pieces I have seen Goodwill stores carry in the fall. This store also carries brand new mattresses. This Goodwill resembled more of a Big Lots than the Goodwills I am used to. The prices were on par with those of discount retailer Big Lots as well. They even sell snacks up front. I inquired about what they sell and was told it was new and thrift items. The new items had been donated to them. I don't know if this store is unique or the way Goodwill wants to move in the future. Everything was clean and displayed nicely. I really wanted to find out more about this store but unfortunately they were getting ready to close for the night. If I lived in Sebring I would be a regular customer at this store.

They focus on helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and do a super job. As part of their fund-raising efforts, they run numerous ARC Resale locations where they resell donated goods and it's the Avon Park resale location that I'm reviewing today. My mother recently passed away and I had a need to donate a great deal of stuff she had accumulated over 94 years of life. I chose these folks Arriving- It's right on Main Street about a minute from US Route 27 and it's a snap to find. Parking is simple. Donating- Easy peasy! The customer service folks explained clearly what they could take and why they didn't except certain items. It was painless and quick. Shopping- Let's assume you've been to other places that sell donations. This place is clean and organized like the competitors. The staff is just fine. Pricing- Unfortunately I'm deducting One star as they seem to price higher than all the competitors. They make up for that a bit by having selected days with discounts like Seniors Day etc. However, the standard pricing, in my opinion, needs to be adjusted. Conclusion- Even with the pricing blip this is a fine organization doing good work and the store is worth a look, especially on discounted days!
