Last time I was here I bought a door mat with three cats on it. Now this has become a favorite with my cats. This time i found a table runner for my mom, which I'm sure she is going to love since it has all these fancy chickens on it! By the way the prices on these items were great even before the conversion! The store is very spacious, the use of the space is great. I like how when you are on the second floor one can look down and see almost the entire store. Great if you need to spot your shopping companion. They also have wifi, which is a great added bonus when traveling.

This Walmart is HUUUGE! It's also a grocery store with some really competitive prices across the…read moreboard. Heck, there's even a Tim Horton's inside of this place. It's like the Canadian dream! You can easily lose yourself in this place and there's a lot of things you can buy on the cheap. My only gripe with this Walmart is the overabundance of staff walking around yet so many displays can be empty. For example, I wanted to buy some batteries and when shown where it was by a member of the staff we both noticed the entire section for it was nearly empty except for a few select batteries I didn't need.

They have everything they sell at the American walmarts plus more. The main reason I shop here is for the Canadian exclusive items which are mostly food products. For example, they sell vegetarian gelatin-free Kellogg's Rice Krispies treats and vanilla Rice Krispies cereal. My favorite aisle to spend time at is the candy aisle. I love stocking up on all the unique Canadian kit kat flavors and coffee crisp. I never leave this Walmart without spending at least $30. Best of all, they have self check out.

The Long Version: I love discount stores and dollar stores, so I had to pop into Magi-Prix during my latest trip to Laval. It has a dollar store feel, but items are more than a dollar (although even stores that call themselves dollar stores these days rarely have anything that's only a dollar anymore. Most things are more than a dollar). They have furniture and I actually saw a few cool pieces, but nothing that I really needed. I was most impressed by their food section. They had lots of imported goods. They had teas from Germany, cookies from France and chips from France too. I ended up buying 2 boxes of tea from Sri Lanka. One was a green tea with soursop and banana flavours. I've never seen this flavour combination and admittedly it sounds strange, but more the reason to get it, right? Lol. The other was a black tea with ginger. It's rare to find a black tea with just ginger flavour. Many add lemon and honey. And some add lemongrass and/or licorice. So I was thrilled to find a plain tea and ginger. I was eyeing the Brets chips. They were $4.50 each, and had lots of unusual flavours, but I didn't find a flavour I had to try. Came by this Costco as part of a pit stop on our trip to Quebec City…read more Part 1: Costco gas - the line was not too long, waited maybe 5-10 min before it was our turn. There were 2 employees helping people to ensure everything was moving smoothly. Overall, a good experience. Part 2: Costco wholesale. It was pretty busy in this store. It looked like they had a pretty good variety of items. Veges and meat looked pretty fresh. Nothing out of the ordinary for Costco. Nothing that stood out to me as good or bad. Line up was long but everyone was moving smoothly. Part 3: Costco food - we got a hot dog which comes with a drink and 30 wings. Every 10 wings comes with 1 sauce package - bbq and some spicy sauce are your choices. The spicy sauce tasted like some sort of Tabasco based sauce. The bbq sauce tasted like McDonald's bbq McNugget sauce. The hot dog was average - need to ask if you want fried onions. The wings were freshly made. Nice breading on the outside and juicy on the inside but lacked flavor overall. The sauces are needed but even the sauces are very one-note. Only thing that was slightly bad was they forgot to give us our drink (comes with hot dog) and we had to go back and ask. Price for food is, of course, cheap - it's Costco! Overall, a pretty usual Costco experience. It's what Costco is known for (consistency) and what I expected - nothing more, nothing less.

I saw some skirts, which I don't think we're sold in hawaii, and asked her if they had a certain size, but she could not understand me and grabbed another that did. The other worker left and I had another question, but she ignored me because I guess she figured she couldn't understand or answer me. My son got poutine from the concession stand, and it was really good. Only about $5, which is really cheap. When I checked out, my card couldn't pay for the items because usa issues us visa Costco. Canada only accepts Costco MasterCard, so I had to pay with cash since we didn't bring our debit cards. There was a long line at the gas, we didn't want to wait in line to find out we can't use outwards to fill up. Luckily, we stumbled upon another Costco going towards quebec city that had gas 10 cents per liter cheaper than this one. I gave this Costco a 3 star because it's way too busy inside and more expensive at the pump, and the employees don't really help you.

But some things have changed: a new marquise, the addition of street art. This week is their annual sidewalk sale held every summer. Due to the closed businesses or vacant storefronts, the retailers displays were spaced out. The Plaza is 4 blocks long of budget retails, from Jean-Talon to Bellechasse streets. However, I had the impression that it was longer than this. Perhaps it's because I was still a kid back then. It's far from being my favourite shopping street, though it brings back childhood memories.

It's the part from Jean-Talon to Bellechasse where there is a glass covering the sidewalk. It's great for window-shopping, even if most of the stores have seen better days. While this street itself has seen a bit of a decline when indoor malls started opening, it has started to reverse. The area is becoming more and more famous for trendy bars and nightspots. The selection of restaurants goes from fast-food to old diners to upscale. It is still mostly about clothing boutiques, the fashion is hit or miss and it's over 90% women's fashion here but one could still find whatever one seeks here (batteries, luggage, perfume). Take a second to explore the streets that intersect the Plaza, Jean-Talon is a major artery for the city. Bélanger is up and coming, St-Zotique is more branché, Beaubien is the coolest (for me). Bellechasse is the quietest but it's good for a nice bike ride. Try to find when they have their sidewalk sales, you will not be disappointed.

Because this isn't the biggest mall on the island we usually find a lot of products that are sold out of other chain retailers here. The mall has a good selection of chains and independent stores. The parking lot has adequate parking and serval entrances. The malls entrances all have hand sanitizers and social distancing spacing stickers. Every store we visited had there staff following all safety guidelines.

One of the anchors has closed, so for now they only have three major stores. Inside the mall it was very clean, well-lit, and roomy. Outside there is a lot of parking available, and the mall is hard by major expressways so getting here and back is easy. Located right on the edge with entrances inside and outside of the mall are some nice restaurant chains - we went to the Baton Rouge steakhouse connected to the mall. While a mall is a mall is a mall is still true, this one was pretty nice with middle quality stores throughout. Loads of eating places near the center portion of the mall.

Back in the States, I had been looking for some hooks for the condo and I found a bunch of them at this Dollarame on the Plateau. I got a few to take back home with me. That is the thing about dollar stores, sometimes the inventory varies from day to day and also from store to store...it's like a gamble...but if you get lucky, take advantage of it. Love their self checkout registers.
