Black Friday at Walmart [Richmond, BC Canada] We had a little bit of time to spare before returning to the U.S. so we checked out their Walmart Supercentre in Canada looking for souvenirs. This Walmart in Central at Garden City is 2-stories high. The lower level is where you will find clothing, health and beauty, baby items, pharmacy and grocery... while the upper level has entertainment, home, toys and seasonal items. Christmas is approaching so lots of holiday merch. We usually find some souvenirs in a Walmart like in Orlando (lots of Disney stuff), Alaska, Hawaii and even Wyoming,... but in this location (after looking everywhere) I finally asked an employee where their souvenir section was and they didn't even know what I was talking about. I was just looking for stickers. I confirmed with another team member and she said they didn't have any. Oh well... I ended up buying Toblerone chocolates for stocking stuffers. As much as I like roaming the seasonal isles in Costco I actually prefer this particular Walmart a bit more . First no silly membership is required . Then there's the toy department . Despite it being the furthest away from any checkouts ( some kind of anti-theft measure I suppose ) , I always spend the most time here trying to relive my childhood memories . Surprisingly there are some good ol' retro toys to be found if you come often enough . And not to mention the Asian food isles here are impressive ! I do applaud them for catering to the local demographics and providing the must-have essentials in every Chinese household . read more

The price for the chocolate bars were incorrect in the system at the self check-out so we asked the employee for help. He told us to return to the shelf and take a photo of the price tag of the chocolate bar for him. How could the employee ask customers to work for him? It was the employee's job to check prices for customers. That means he did not want to help customers. We told him that the chocolate bars were just behind the self check-out area. He looked like he did not understand and then he said, 'okay' and went there. Then he came back and fixed the price for us. I was surprised that he was watching me from behind - he suddenly said, 'yes' when I was reading the screen. He tried to tell me what to do to show off his power because he was mad that we asked him to check the price for us. He kept watching me while I proceeded with the self check-out. That was impolite. Then the female employee stood in front of us while we were walking towards the exit of the self check-out area to make us yield to her. The service was horrible. It was ironic that the employees were wearing the uniform indicating 'Happy to Help' when they did not actually want to help. P.S. They did not fix the price for broccoli in the system and they did not input the Turnips Green into the system. So the customers needed to ask the staff to key-in those items every time. Went to exchange my Sodastream tank. Customer service lady could not determine which one is the correct one even after another colleague told her to make sure it's the correct one. She tried to sell me the wrong one but after I questioned her she abruptly said they don't have it. Please provide adequate training to your staff otherwise you'll always be getting bad reviews. read more

Walmart is located on Alderbridge Way and near Garden City in Richmond. It's a chain retail, discount department and grocery stores. This Walmart is huge, they have 2/F for electronic, toys and household stuffs. I rarely shop for cheap quality of food and household stuffs. May be disposable I would consider to get it here. We just came here for a walk after dinner but didn't buy a thing. As a smart consumer, it's good for price comparison if you need to buy affordable stuffs. read more

When it wasn't delivered, called their hotline twice, both times the agent promised to have someone call me back. I was shocked when they cancelled my order with no explanation whatsoever. Located in the Central Garden City Mall, this is a large Walmart with 2 floors. The first floor has mostly food and beauty products. The second floor has the home and electronics. You will find something here to buy, even as a tourist, as they have a lot of Canadian snacks to choose from. read more

I have been a long time customer using online pickup and delivery and will be canceling today. The last few order experiences were so bad, I can hardly believe it is real. Twice my order simply disappeared after the driver picked up, which I eventually was refunded but was given no explanation, but today really blew my mind. I created an order for delivery, paid for the order and the money was taken out of my account. A few minutes later I received a notification that the order was cancelled by the store yet did not get my money back. I called a rep and was told I was not charged, it is a hold that will be released in 5 to 7 business days. I told the rep we needed that money to buy food and could not wait 5 to 7 business days and she simply repeated that we were not charged that it was a hold that would be released in 5 to 7 business days and no matter what we said she kept repeating the same thing. We asked to speak to a manager and she said she would put me through but the manager or supervisor would say the same thing and kept repeating this when we asked to be put through until I snapped and yelled to be put through NOW. Unfortunately for us, the manager did nothing but the same thing, kept repeating the same answer, word for word, until we gave up and hung up. So basically, we spent the week's budget for food, got no food and won't have money to buy food for 5 to 7 business days and there's nothing we can do about it. We're cancelling our membership, of course, and will never shop there again, but I don't think they give a damn. read more

Wow, this place is huge compared to the Walmarts in the United States. There are two floors to this location. The bottom floor offers mostly groceries while the second floor consists of home items. Their grocery selection caters more to Asian customers than other Walmart locations. For example, they have a seafood station that is stocked with a wide variety of live fish. It is worth noting that while the shopping carts here are free, they do require a dollar to activate, which is refunded upon the return of the cart. This Walmart is huge, it's a super store with underground parking but parking lot was small considering the size of the store. There is a souvenir section but items are limited and quality wasn't the best. Had a hard time funding what I needed. Used the restroom in their McDonalds and they were filthy and gross. Out of all the Walmart in BC, this one is the best so far. I mean in terms of the things they have for sale. Yes this is one of the few ones that is listed as a Super Center. So it basically has everything. Because its located in Richmond, it has lot of Asian produce. The reason why I say this place is great is because of the price. The price is just better than T&T or other Asian Supermarkets. Even on items that are not on sale. The produce are fresh as well. Only one fall back is parking. Its like a war zone downstairs. Almost unimaginable. Even upstairs its full pack of people. I have never seen a Walmart that busy (not even in the USA). Its crazy. read more

This is my favorite Walmart. It is a bit out of the way for me but I do like it. It is huge! 2 floors, fairly clean and organized and parking is pretty good too. Being in Richmond they have a lot of Asian products as well. They also have fish tanks with crabs and fish like T&T. I believe they are open til midnight as well. read more

It's a super center, and being in Richmond it makes an attempt to appeal to the local demographic. While there is certainly room for improvement, the core offerings make it a place I could turn to, though not unconditionally. I arrived here in the AM to beat traffic, and was met by a surprise. An underground garage! There is unlikely parking issues here. Not only is there a parking garage under the store itself, there's an additional parking garage to the side of the store, not including additional outdoor parking. Once you walk in, you're greeted by forward thinking logic - cart escalator, elevators, and a McDonalds on the side with kiosks that take wireless payment such as Google Pay and Apple Pay. However, upon reaching the upstairs, this is where I'm thrown in for a loop, with mixed thoughts: On the plus side, they offer free WiFi and cater to the local demographic of predominately Chinese, (53% of the total population at the time of this review according to Wikipedia). The store is huge and the opening view of the store upon entering the second floor is clear of this. But it costs a dollar to rent a shopping cart. Alright, look, I'm used to this having been to Asia quite a bit, but, I've been to Safeway and other stores here in Richmond/Vancouver and I don't have to pay to use a shopping cart, so why here? Plus, if I were homeless, I could just bum a dollar off someone, pay for a cart, and take it off the premises. It's not a good loss prevention tactic if you ask me as it's still fully exploitable. Anyway, the store is huge, the prices are decent what you'd expect of a Walmart, but I was shocked to learn that self checkout doesn't allow mobile pay. Don't get me wrong, in the United States, you can't use mobile pay at Walmart stores, at least at the time of this review, but, I'd expect the Walmart Canada stores to allow this. Nope. Like I said, this store is a mixed bag and I could see myself coming back to the store, but only if I had no other options or if it was just close by. At this location, finding parking can be very difficult and frustrating (compared to the Walmart on Grandview, for example). Other than that, the store has a decent selection and prices. Recently, I didn't have a loonie for a shopping cart and ended up really struggling with the weight of a basket I had to use. My back had already been hurting and when the pain increased, I became miserable and was ready to leave. When it was time to pick up my online order, I was frustrated by lack of proper communication at the entrance as to where to go. Once I saw my package, I was even more disappointed by how ripped and wrinkled the box was, and even the clerk who brought it to me suggested we open it and ensure the product is intact (fortunately it was). This clerk's name was Juliana and she was extremely kind and helpful. She even offered me a shopping cart and went to bring me one.l herself. Then she helped me transfer my items from my basket into the cart, although I told her that it's not necessary. I know these workers are not paid a lot and they spend their entire shift on their feet assisting customers and being told what to do by management, so when one such employee goes over and above what is required of them, I truly respect and appreciate their effort. I was a bit confused when my family said they go to Walmart for their groceries but now I Know why. This Walmart is combination of an Asian and Western grocery store. Chinese veggies?? Giant house plants at entrance?? Car supplies?? Even winter parkas. Even though there were so many people and the parking lot isn't that big, I found it easy to maneuver quickly through the store and find everything we needed. read more

By far the biggest Walmart in a Vancouver suburb. Got 3 levels including the covered parkade. Electronics on top floor. An expanded bakery section, with seemingly fresh cakes like black forest but didn't partake. Prefer the local ones. Thumbs up for rotisserie-style chicken, a la Safeway. I'm not a huge fan of the set up of this Walmart and it doesn't seem like it's much cheaper than some of the other grocery stores. As usual, I come to Walmart for non food items and will continue to shop elsewhere for my produce. I do enjoy their cheap clothing section. It looks like they are improving on the quality of their items. The parking lot is odd as there's only a limited number of covered spaces. The rest is out in the open fyi so don't fight the lazy people for parking spots in the parkade. Bonus for the cool shopping cart escalator. read more

Yet the store associates at this location refused to match the cost of a product we purchased in store yesterday that was both advertised as on sale on the flyer AND online. This is an odd Walmart, not just being new and being the first one in the heart of Richmond, but the fact that it seems as though they have gone away from being an 'all-out' store of everything and now focusing more on groceries. Yes, when you enter this monstrosity, even before you get to the main floor, you have to go up an escalator from the parking lot, think Ikea.. and once you get to the door it reminds you of a retailer who died an inglorious death due to Canadian consumerism (Target) as you see shopping cart escalators... and the question is "why the heck would I need this, I'm going to walk in there and run!"... then you get to the main entrance, and you are wowed that a store like this can be so damn big. It is sucking you in to waste a good amount of your time to see what it has to offer, which is actually impressive, as you really have to see the size of this place, with it's 1.5 floors of walking space. Being in Richmond, I have a feeling this one purposely stocked up on Chinese grocery items, from vegetables, instant noodles, pork fluff and an aisle of different brands of rice... this is not your regular Walmart, not even close. I am use to seeing more clothing and odd knick-knacks and yet... this is where the store is lacking. Food dominant, and add everything else.. think Superstore but with the W branding. The prices... are exactly what you expect.... which is on the low cheap end, and this place was designed to move people... as they didn't pack the store hard where it feels like an East Van side street waiting for the next cart to roll by before you can go. Now the other question, the parking, unlike one Yelper who says the parking lot is a, "gong show", clearly maneuvering a car is not his expertise, and this is no T&T, the parking stalls are wide for your SUV's and S-Class Mercedes, the lighting is bright, and there is more than enough parking spots for your 4 wheeled people mover. Do not be fearful of coming in here, like everything that is new, people will flock here, and more will in time as the rest of the complex is barely open, until shops start populating. There is a Bed, Bath and Beyond... and I know some banks will be coming, so welcome the new Walmart, and maybe it will steer traffic away from my normal shopping joints for the time being! read more

I've been shopping at this Walmart for over a year now, but starting today I will not go there again. Here's why. Date : Sunday May 10, 2018 Time : close to 3:30pm The shopping cart conveyer stopped working when my cart is almost 1/3 of the way down from the upper floor. It started beeping really loud but Starngely EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE ignored it. I informed this to 6 of the employees - everyone gave me the same answer "somebody will come!". But NOBODY attended to it for 22 minutes! I couldn't leave the cart there as some of my personal belongings were in the cart. I was told by 8 other customers that this has happened to them before at this location and they had a hard time getting help! Every employee is ignoring this and couple of them tried to help without uttering a word but they couldn't get it moving. Then I saw some lady trying to key ina code or something on the small screen, I asked her "can I speak to the manager?" Her rude answer was "I am the manager". Wow! No apologies and the rudeness was very prominent. As if their lack of knowledge and the not training employees properly wa my mistake! Now it's been 32 minutes since this started, finally the conveyer started to move.. No apologies, no eye contact and that was the sh*tty service from "the manager (???) and the the staff. Staff at this Walmart never smiles and lack of knowledge of anything they have on their store. And if that actually was the manager that I spoke, I can see why. Walmart - Please get someone who can manage the location and train the employees properly so they can apologize and fix when a something like this happenes. Things break and go wrong sometimes but that's when you can show the skills and capabilities of the management and the staff. Again my family will never ever shop here again even5kugh this location is just 3 blocked from my home. I will happily use Superstore which is thousand times better than this Walmart! read more

Built and opened fairly recently, the Richmond Walmart is a large store that's clean and easy to shop with offerings that are mostly consistent with other locations. Much like other Walmarts, there are some minor differences between its offerings and others' in order to cater to local demographics. The selection may be limited in some departments as a result but that's every Walmart in the region. The staff at this location are very helpful and will try to assist you even when they are preoccupied. While the store is great, the parking situation isn't. There is a covered lot right outside the store entrance and an adjacent open lot but it's very hard to find a spot on a busy day as these lots fill up fast. You'll often find yourself resorting to the parking garage that's a bit far from the Walmart, having to walk and/or carry large hauls in rain, snow, cold or heat. read more

I ordered a 100 lb vinyl weight set online. My ordered arrive at the store with a damage box. When i open the box fully at home I noticed one of the 10 lb weights missing. I called the store and was told the box arrived damage so now I have to take 90 lbs back to the store. Don't make the same mistake that I did. If you are picking up a product at the store and you notice the box damage , check it at the store. lesson learn. read more

So called ahead to find out if they had Womens bathing suits and children's water shoes available at this location. Said they did not after supposedly checking. Went anyway to go check and right in the front was a rack full of Womens bathing suits. Went to the children's shoe section and they also carried watershoes. Also when I went to try on bathing suits there was a worker right there by the changing rooms and I kindly asked if she was able to get me a different size. She said she couldn't and walked away. Was not helpful at all. I gave it a 2 star only as they actually did carry items I needed that were not in season, but customer service was terrible. read more

This Wal-Mart is gross on the weekends. Way too many people and they all walk slowly with their hands behind their backs as if they are used to being handcuffed. Ok, so back to the store itself. I don't come here for much, but the things I do come here for, half of them 100% of the time are out of stock. Such a waste of time. Also, now this is very important. The workers in the produce section don't speak English, and I mean they don't have a grasp of even the basics. The first time I had a response in mandarin, I thought it was a one off. After 3 times, it's the norm. Wal-Mart needs to understand this city isn't 100% mainland Chinese yet, and until it is, a little bit of English or our other official language would be appreciated. read more
