With all that said, today my review is for their coffee offerings. Of course they have as the traditional pots of coffees in a variety of flavors... always fresh and very good. If you bring your own container they will charge you a refill price. However the potted coffee is not available all day. For those times when you want a cup in the afternoon, they have a coffee machine made with fresh beans. There's also a cappuccino machine, also made with fresh beans. The staff is very nice and always helpful.

Well that's truly no fault of this business believe me. It comes down to nothing more than the logistics of my daily commute to work which takes me down that most evil of Salt Lake County roads, Bangerter Highway, and not down I-15. As such a couple of other locations are just more convenient when I need gas, snacks, or when I need to quickly turn off to escape the plague of devils who have been slowly massing and following me since turning on from I-80! So now I've got that off and well in the rear view mirror, let's actually get down to what makes this Holiday great. Simply put, when it comes to 12600 South, I'd dare to go as far as to say this is the best gas station between the Oquirrh Mountains and the freeway, so when I am heading that way (weekends generally) this is my stop of choice whether I'm gassing up and/or needing to visit the convenience store. Believe me, this criteria does include plenty of other choices to stop at. However, for gas this one tends to generally be cheaper and more convenient to get in and out of. Add to that, the interior is very clean, including the bathrooms, and customer service here is always great. Service is fast and friendly to boot. What more could you really want or expect? I've found this to be common with other Holiday stations I visit too, especially when compared to other chains around the valley that seem a little more sketchy.

Talk about a niche market: People living or working around the Fort Union triangle who are too cheap to get a membership -- or too lazy to drive 5 miles -- to Costco. On this night, we fit that description. They have ... let's just call them the sparsest amenities of any gas station in the area. While the TWO amply lit Maverik "Adventure's First Stop" (less than a mile apart!) were packed, we shared the Shell station with a night clerk and some grizzled dude in an ancient Ford Taurus who parked in front of the door ... and was just there to buy a pack of smokes. There was an old Simon & Garfunkel song, "A Heart in New York", where the song goes "Lookin' down on Central Park, Where they say you should not wander after dark." Well substitute "Central Park" with "the Shell Station on Fort Union Boulevard." Well, I'm exaggerating, but I'd turn the safety off your mace ... just in case ;) Again, we were there for the cheapest gas, and Shell has everybody in a 5-mile radius beat.

I guess it is, or we believe that it is, because the Costco gas line is more popular than the cool kids' table in high school. This location seems to be even more happening than others-probably because it's right in the center of everything, not because the gas is any better than other Costcos. It's a littel tricky to navigate being at the back of the parking lot, not easily accessible from the road. But that doesn't deter folks...they gotta save those dollars!

NOT UT/WYO/CO/ID/MT/NM's higher Altitude (less O2) 85 Octane "Regular. Only way to get @ COSTGO is "split" Buy of 1/2 Regular; 1/2 Premium. (A "pain," & doesN'T "make friends" w/ cars' waiting!). Yes, newer eng's "detune"/lower Compression themselves automatically, so 85 works fine -- BUT: Comes at performance cost of less MPG due to less HP w/ lower Octane. Less HP Less MPG = MORE gasoline/MPH. Even though factory-Recommended MIDgrade "up" here costs more, eng. gets better MPG, so basically a "wash" $$-wise. WHILE getting "advertised Performance" pd for with vehicle. ;) :)

These stations are $20 higher than reputable emission facilities around the valley. Both business charge $60 for older vehicle emission testing for cars made before 1996 and $45 for newer cars when other centers, like CURT'S EMISSION AND CAR WASH, charge only $40 for older vehicles and $35 for newer. So don't get ripped off. Shop around. There is a lot better choices out there.
