I came across Wally's Cafe on DoorDash and noticed it was new to the ghost kitchen. I love trying new spots, so I checked out the Yelp reviews--and after seeing all the rave reviews, I had to give it a shot. My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken shawarma plate with extra pita and extra sauce (of course). The portions were massive! To top it off, it looked like the owner threw in a free side of lentil soup and a slice of baklava--such a thoughtful touch! This place was great I wanted rice and meat and that's what I got. The owners run it and are very generous. They use the same recipes from the shop in NorCal. It's simple Levant style food like mom made in a big guy and I still only ate half and destroyed it that night. Tasted my wife's wrap it was good too. Wow! This yummy location was really, really good. Our first time here, parking was not easy, better, I think, to park on Rochester and walk over. The restaurant is worth a small walk! I really really wanted to like this place given its reviews and my love for Mediterranean food, but I just couldn't get there. The shawarma was dry, over-seasoned and under-marinated, and didn't look like the more authentic kind you can find at other local spots; the rice wasn't particularly good either; and the salad was just fine. I must say the portions were really big (although mostly just rice), and true to the other reviews the restaurant was super friendly and added soup and baklava, which I appreciated. However, ultimately, the food quality just wasn't good enough for me to want to go back, especially at a $21 price point. read more

I don't leave reviews very often but hot dayummmmm, Wally's Cafe is the real deal! I'll be back soon. It's located in the Costa Mesa Kitchen building. Despite the horrendous parking and security (iykyk), they managed to turn my frown upside down. Food was so good, I forgot to take pictures. I had the beef shawarma wrap, lentil soup and a baklava. Everything was 10 out of 10. The wrap was huge and they do not skimp on the protein. Garlic sauce was spot on and the baklava was delicious, best I've had. Staff is very friendly, huge bonus! I LOVE Wally's. Wally's has been my favorite restaurant for years, when I used to live in Rocklin. They have a location there and they have always served amazing food. When I moved to SoCal, I was so disappointed to leave my favorite restaurant. So imagine my surprise to find that they opened a location here, only 20 min fron my house! YES! I checked it out today and the owner is Wally's son and his wife. Super nice and friendly couple, they gave me a free lemonade that tasted very refershing and was definitely made with quality ingredients. The only disappointment was my favorite menu item, chicken livers, was not available at this new location. That is a bummer as I'm one of those people who orders the same thing every time I go to a particular restaurant because I know what's good there and that's all I want. So you KNOW the chicken livers is good. (Pretty please put chicken livers on your menu?) Since there was no chicken livers, I ended up ordering chicken schwarma and beef schwarma and baklava. Super tender and juicy meat, rice was flavorful, and the salad and lentil soup were on point, as expected. Portions were huge, definitely enough to share. Also! I was treated to free lentil soup to sip while I was waiting for my food to be prepared (even though I also received lentil soup with my orders). The owners really take care of you! First time trying this place, and I must say, their food is amazing! I got the beef shawarma, my wife has the chicken shawarma, and my daughter had the beef shawarma wrap. The beef and chicken were cooked to perfection! The lentil soup was absolutely delicious. It helped balance with your entree. Each portion was huge and could possibly be served for 2. Garbage food. Very disappointed. Saw an ad online and decided to try them. THIS IS NOT LEBANESE FOOD!! unauthentic, super dry, weird seasonings that aren't Lebanese or even Middle eastern, low quality meats that tasted old. Live and learn to trust an online ad. Got to eat at SoCal's first Wally's location today! So clutch to have one locally. When I lived in San Francisco, Wally's original location in Emeryville was one of my favorite hole in the wall local foodie spots. For those in the know, they've been recognized as being one of Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants for many years! Their pomegranate chicken and lamb kabob were incredibly flavorful and perfectly juicy. The owners were there today and were really welcoming and served us themselves. I drove down an hour from Los Angeles to try it - can't wait til they hopefully open one closer in LA sometime soon! I want to see these folks succeed! It was easy to place an order online and they were prompt with pick up time. I ordered a combo plate with pomegranate chicken and falafels, and a lentil soup. The combo plate was good but I could live off the lentil soup! Parking is a bit tough because it's a small lot and I went when there were a lot of pick ups, but because all orders are carry outs, parking becomes available quickly. Getting out of the lot can be a challenge when Newport Blvd. is busy as well but manageable. read more

The old saying "You get what you pay for". Not at Wallys. Today July 22, 2025 I ordered a chicken kabobs plate which was supposed to come with PITA, GARLIC SAUCE, and TSATSIKI. I got NONE of those. I choked down the dry chicken and it was unpleasant without sauce. Its like ordering a combination meal at McDonalds and just getting a plain burger. Disappointing. All Wallys has to do is create a checklist for its workers to make sure all items are in the delivery bag. They failed at this and I was the victim of their carelessness. Not a way to run a business. Falafel is fantastic! Very fresh and do not sleep on the lentil soup, very flavorful. Chicken pomegranate was delicious, but falafel was the winner!! Baklava is unique (cashew), more buttery than traditional honey and sticky. read more

I discovered Wally's by chance when I was in Emeryville for work and picked up dinner based on the 2k+ excellent Yelp reviews there. When I went inside to pick up my food, I looked on the wall and saw they had another location in Newport Beach! After eating the absolutely delicious pomegranate chicken, I couldn't wait to get it again when I was back home in SoCal. I picked it up today and it did not disappoint again. This time, I also tried the beef shawarma and chicken kabob, which were also good, but the pomegranate chicken continues to be the star. The salad, rice and baklava are also excellent. Not the biggest fan of the lentil soup, but there is enough tasty food otherwise that I just can skip the soup. Lots of food in each meal, enough for at least 2 meals for me. Waited almost an hour for the food I ordered then was promised lentil soup for the wait time. Never received the soup in my bag. What a wonderful meal! I ordered lamb kabobs. When I got home I discovered the rice and lamb were enough to feed me four meals and there is salad and pita to boot! I came for the baklava ice cream and left with a meal. The counter clerk (owner?) was kind in explaining the food and kinder still teaching me the digital ordering process. Wow! My mom says "I'm kind of full. I've had sufficiency, any more would be superfluity" quoting her Aunt Nettie. We ordered a lot of stuff as we wanted to try a bunch of things. The Lemonades were very good. I liked the lemon mint one best. The pilaf and the pomegranate chicken were delicious and "more than enough for two people" says my Mother. Loved the French fries and the onion rings and the falafels - just delicious! I'm afraid I didn't do the salad justice, but will have it for lunch tomorrow. The dips - babaganoush and hummus were also really really good as was the parsley tomato cucumber salad. The tzatziki was really good , too. The lentil soup was pretty thick, more of a paste you would put on crackers, than a "soup." Wally's son is running this one, with his lovely wife, Jessica. Wally taught them everything he knows and they have a stunning efficiency to get this food out pipping hot in an amazingly short period of time- it's a delight to watch them do it. I am left gasping in awe at the Bakalava ice cream. The only thing I would upgrade and get from a local bakery, who bakes daily, is the pita bread - everything else was "to die for." Run don't walk to this establishment. There is a parking lot in front with delivery drivers hanging out as their spot is in the lobby of a "ghost kitchen" although they have a little kitchen "slip" like a boat slip in a yacht harbor - where they can prepare their food and meet and greet their guests. Very personable and kind people! You could also park in the lots down Rochester, the side street, which we did, as we found it was easier to find it on foot. We took our food back to our cottage at Crystal Cove (20 min. drive) very convenient to that or Balboa, Newport Beach or Costa Mesa. read more
