This place, in contrast has made lemonaid out of lemons so to speak. The room was great, as always. The staff was great, as always. They no longer have a breakfast buffet.... most motels have stopped offering it while not reducing their room rates. The Eagle's view came up with an interesting solution. You fill out a menu of what you want in the morning and when you'll show up and hot coffee and all the goodies you ordered are waiting when you get there. Being a big eater I was concerned that the portions would be skimpy. But the gal working the b'fast really heaped on the food. It was great! This motel has always been the best lodging in town (by far). Always stay here when we're in town.

We found that the cabin was so well supplied and the view from our deck so lovely, we made our own dinner and enjoyed every bit of the lake view and surrounding scenery. The fridge is small but adequate and is on the porch. Each cabin has a nice porch area with a grill, table, chairs, and fridge. The kitchen does the trick although at least in #7 what I thought was an oven turned out to be an old fridge that didn't work. Coffee pot and microwave are provided along with plenty of cooking supplies. The grounds are well kept with an amazing view of Wallowa lake. It's on the side of the lake away from the tourist areas so it's quiet. There's a game room and a playground. I walked around quite a bit and really enjoyed it. The owners and their family were friendly and helpful. I could really go on and on. No cell signal here and no wifi so it's a great place to unplug.

Service was perfect, check in was excellent and we had a full size kitchen. The large kitchen was perfectly stocked and a lot of thought was put into the kitchen supplies. Pots and pans, pretty much every kind of utensil you will need, travel mugs, coffee, cream, and a coffee maker are provided. I took a bunch of stuff that we didn't need. We stayed in the largest room that included three queen beds. There were two beds in one room and a separate room with one bed and the bathroom. Television reception was terrible, but that was no problem for us. There is a little patio outside of the room with two tables, which is where we had our dinner each night. There were only two of us and our dog, but we stayed in this room since it had a full size kitchen. It's a peaceful retreat and a short drive to Joseph and Wallowa Lake and it is much safer than staying in Joseph at this time.

My family just spent five days at the Wilderness Inn. The price was right, the rooms were…read morecomfortable and all the staff we dealt with were super nice and helpful. I booked the rooms on booking.com, which somehow charged them to a card I'd used previously instead of the card I input. Booking.com also listed one room with two beds and showed a photo of a room with two queen beds but when we arrived, they were both rooms with only one bed. When we asked for another bed, the staff handled that for us right away. I don't think this was the hotel's fault, though, I think it was booking.com. This was the perfect place to stay as a base for adventures in the area. There's a great bookstore a few blocks away on Main St, a restaurant a couple blocks down the road that served elk and bison and delicious milkshakes, a Safeway if you just want to keep yogurt, fruit and gorp in your room, and a little local store right across the street. It's just 5 miles down the road to Joseph with its galleries and bronze foundries, and just a few more miles to fantastic hiking in Eagle Cap and beautiful Wallowa Lake. We're coming back and I'd be happy to stay there again.

We have come two years now and rent the same cabin on the lake. PJ was the housekeeper and it was spotless. Thank you PJ... we love the way you clean and present the place. We had a not so great airbnb a few days before and it was a bummer. We were so excited to get here and know that it would be clean and presentable. I used to be a maid, so I get it. The upgrades are so fun. The connection to wifi was fine. We don't expect a great connection anyway since we came to get away. It is expensive, so we can't stay too long. We do love it and hope to come back again. They are always friendly and the welcome book is so thorough. Thank you!

I won't go into the details of the chaos that ensued, but suffice it to say that waiting two hours for dinner was unacceptable, especially as we watched other people get seated, order, be served and leave before we had anything, Not even a bread basket or crackers for goodness sakes. The young man who was identified as the manager was sarcastic instead of helpful. When I asked him what the holdup was and pointed out that our dinner orders had been in place for two days, his snarky response was, "Well, we didn't start cooking them two days ago." No explanation and no offer to help. Afterwards, I sent an email to Jane, the woman I'd coordinated with for weeks asking her to just explain what happened. Her response? Crickets. Not enough professional courtesy to even respond to an email let alone offer an apology. Being ghosted after your group has been treated rudely and after spending hundreds of dollars is more than a lack of courtesy. It's the mark of a poorly trained staff. I'm sure dinner for two they can manage but don't take a group there.

This B&B is in an historic farmhouse with a huge porch to take in all the views. There's a private suite above the garage and a couple rooms in the farmhouse. My husband and I stayed in the Buffalo suite, which is downstairs and has 2 rooms plus a wonderfully remodeled bathroom. Much care is taken to ensure you have a wonderful stay. The rooms are really clean, sheets are crisp cotton, linens are fresh and new...... and the breakfasts are out of this world ~ all homemade, all from scratch including Diana's famous lemon curd and Hunter's famous biscuits... Hunter and Diana are wonderful hosts, willing to leave you be and kick it on the porch, hammock or outside firepit, or fill you in on what to do, where to go, whether it's a town experience you are looking for ~ or you want to go remote and explore the beautiful wildness that makes up Wallowa County. This couple brings a wealth of knowledge on the area and can create a custom day for you whatever your interests! Bring your binoculars and spotting scope, you can glass from the porch, look at birds in the nearby trees, or put the glasses to great use scanning for elk on the Zumwalt or in the Eagle Caps. Friendly dogs are welcome at Barking Mad ~ and they supply a field for your dog to kick up it's heels in. They've also got cats and donkey's which will come visit and ask for a pet.
