On numerous occasions when picking up my child, I found them wet, cold and being neglected leading to pneumonia. When contacting the school to discuss concerns I encountered directors and staff that were dismissive, would down play my concerns and who were defensive. My experience was both disheartening, and unsettling. Following investigation into this facility I learned that they are NOT a registered school as lead to believe but instead is licensed under a child card day care facility which in my experience is very much how they operate.

Our family members always comment on how far she's come and how confident she is. Her teachers are extraordinary and she adores them. I have experience with another popular preschool in town and the level of compassion and care from the teachers here at MDC is far above. Academically she's on point, if not ahead. She has a late birthday so, as of now, she's not in kindergarten yet but academically she is at the same level as her friends in Kindergarten at a S/K school out south. At MDC she began reading when she was 4 and now, at 5, she is reading compound words and even some long vowels! She knows all letter sounds, several blends, recognizes sight/cvc words, creates her own story books, writes numbers, counts to 100... but beyond that she's loving learning about other cultures, the world, and art. The teachers/caretakers are what make a school/daycare a good experience or not. Lori and Jessie have been the primary teachers and both are extremely dedicated and care a lot about the children. Lori has always gone the extra mile to keep me updated on my daughter. My daughter runs up to her excited every day. The daycare is tidy/orderly, they do a lot of crafts, they provide healthy snacks, if you forget your kids lunch they won't call you and tell you to bring something, they'll find something for them to eat, etc. They try to be as accommodating as possible. I do think they need another full-time teacher, for support, in case anyone gets sicks, and just to make things easier for them. I also think whoever owns LMA should be more involved in helping the Salem location grow.

After our long search, we couldn't be happier with KELC. The most important characteristic of this provider is the curriculum that begins in the infant room. Our baby came home singing songs, her ABC's, and counting before she moved into the toddler room. She gladly jumps in the arms of her teachers each morning. Our 5 year old is learning to read and write before kindergarten. KELC is on top of early childhood education, and I am incredibly thankful for the effort. The staff have always had a personal relationship with each of our children. They take pictures, send home projects, and have a variety of events throughout the year. This week is Dr. Seuss week. The summer is even more fun! I have always felt the staff are qualified for their roles and are properly coached by the owner to ensure the quality of care is exceptional. I find the structure and routine are valuable. The are offered breakfast for an hour and fifteen minutes every morning, which is such a relief if I'm running late. They have a generous drop off time (10:45!) with the intention of ensuring all children are napping at the scheduled time and not being disruptive. Most importantly, if a child gets sick, they ask you to pick up your child to prevent the spread of illness. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep all the families happy and continue to run a successful child care center. But, your doing great! Our son started at Salem Academy in 5th grade, and this school has changed his life in ways we never could have imagined. Unlike public schools, Salem Academy looks at the whole child--focusing not just on academics, but also on character and personal growth. It's a safe, encouraging place where kids can learn, grow, and become who they were meant to be, surrounded by positive role models and supportive peers. Our son has thrived there the past two years and never complains of being "bored" as he used to do. He's learned to read and write and count and more. Once a week they have Japanese culture and language lessons and they grow to love their Japanese teacher. Several times a year they put on programs where all the students sing and dance, learning various cultures, languages, and styles along the way. The interaction of this school and our own efforts have been completely in sync and we will be sad to leave them but are truly grateful for the solid foundation they have helped give our child.

They offer half day or full day preschool and kindergarten, plus before and after care at a very minimal fee! They do field trips twice a year, and do a craft and show and tell on Fridays.
