Valero Custom Cabinets - Unfinished work. I had to drive to Modesto to pick up the panels myself because he kept saying he forgot to bring it.

We had a very disappointing experience working with Valero. In the beginning, he made big promises…read moreabout quality and said he would meet all of our expectations. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. After almost a year, the cabinets we received were much lower quality than what we were promised, especially considering the price we paid. He told us we would be getting dovetail drawers, but instead we got basic drawers put together with staples and no glue. We only found this out after doing our own research and pointing it out to him. This was never explained to us upfront, which was very frustrating. In reality, it felt like he took advantage of our lack of knowledge in cabinetry. When we brought it up, he said real dovetail drawers would have needed to be ordered from somewhere else. That was surprising to hear from someone with so many years of experience. We had already paid him 50% of the contract a year ago, assuming he would use that money to purchase materials. Later, we found out he hadn't, and he came back asking for more money, which we still paid. On top of that, timelines were repeatedly delayed, forcing us to reschedule other site work and incur costs due to Valro's last-minute cancellations. He repeatedly asked for more money throughout the project without finishing the work. Every time he came to the site, he made sure to ask for payment, but somehow "forgot" to complete the work he was there to do. We also treated him very fairly throughout the process. We paid for his hotel when he came to install, and we bought him lunch and coffee every time he visited. We did this because we expected good quality work and honesty in return. Overall, this was a stressful and expensive experience, and we regret choosing Valero for our cabinets. He overpromised, underdelivered, and failed to meet basic expectations of quality or professionalism. I have attached the contract and the actual installed cabinet. There is a photo of the unfinished work from Israel because he "forgot" the side fillers and the finished side panels of the cabinets. Just stay away from this CHEATER and LIAR called Israel Valero.

Aaron and Lori Miller guided us through the entire process, start to finish; from helping us pick the perfect lot to build on, to guiding us through EVERY detail inside and outside our house during the construction process. Aaron has incredible vision and the ability to make that vision come to life. There are SO many decisions to be made when building a house from the ground up, and he listened to us whenever we had indecision or doubts and always steered us in the right direction, making sure our home turned out to be the beautiful home that it is. Lori is a huge asset as well, weighing in and offering suggestions and guiding us on making decisions on everything from lighting and plumbing fixtures, interior hardware, to laying out and designing our outdoor landscaping. We are so happy with the finished product and receive compliments all the time about how beautiful our home is :) We highly recommend Murphys Design Center to anyone considering building a custom home.

Their work, project timing, details, and budget performance were all outstanding. There weren't any unpleasant surprises. We intend to use them again in a couple of years to design and build a four bedroom home on a hillside. Lastly, the Millers still keep in touch with us and we never felt like just another customer, they both truly care about their product and reputation.

I wanted a small bathroom and very small kitchen remodeled. They were already gutted. He gave me a quote and I signed it. He started in August and he finished in January. He told me it was going to take 8 to 10 weeks. So if you are not in a hurry he might be the guy for you. Just a couple of weeks before he was done he gave me a bill for things he had done that I was of the understanding were already part of our initial agreement which raised my total by $1430. He charged me for painting the bathroom (I provided the paint), fixing the new toilet (I provided the toilet still in a box). He charged for an exhaust fan in the bathroom which was one of the first things I told him I wanted in the bathroom, charged for installing white outlets and covers on white subway tile (I provided the outlets and covers). He had already installed beige for white subway tile. I asked for drawers in all the lower cabinets. He charged me for installing metal drawers in one lower kitchen cabinet but not all the others made of wood. There was no discussion that one would be metal. He charged for installing under-cabinet lighting and glass shelves in two kitchen cabinets (he asked me if that was what I wanted before he gave me my contract). Not once did he say any of these things would cost extra and he never presented an additional estimate before the things were done. There wasn't even any discussion about these things after I signed the contract so he already knew they were things we talked about. My point is to be sure everything you talk to him about is detailed out in the contract. Don't assume that since he is remodeling your bathroom that includes painting it. All in all, I am happy with the work. There are a few things he told me he would do that he didn't do. I didn't remind him to do them because I didn't want another bill. I'm "ok" with the extra money because I'm happy with the job. I just wish he would have told me, "Look, I under bid this job and I really need $1400 to make things right." I wouldn't have liked that either but would have preferred that to him making me feel "taken". I personally won't hire him again because I don't feel comfortable with his style of business. I still like him and the work he did. Just think about my advice before you hire him.
