I almost died here. Let's rewind a little bit, though. So Walkabout is a great place but the seating on the upper level is not guaranteed after a certain hour, where they are certainly going to be reserved. However, there is ample seating on the ground level. The Walkabout platter is a GREAT bet if you're looking to share with one person. My group of 6 got three platters and we were happily fed. It comes with 2 kangaroo kebabs (TRY IT, KANGAROO TASTES AMAZING), 2 garlic breads, 2 corns, onion rings, french fries, and 4 total chicken tenders. Fantastic serving size for 10 pounds total, which is only 5 a person! As for the drinks, the happy hour pitcher situation is fantastic. It's a pitcher for 6 pounds!! Executing on this deal, I asked for a rum and coke pitcher. They said they don't do that, but offered a vodka/red bull instead. I gladly accepted. I noticed later that they had a rum/pepsi/malibu(?) type combination which I don't see why the bartender failed to mention. Anyways, I got my vodka/redbull pitcher and downed it quick. So I foolishly decided to get another pitcher and down that one as well. With the pitchers being six pounds, I figured why not. Albeit this was already 2 pints in. I was awake for the next 45 hours. I went over the top, let's be honest. However many Red Bulls they put in there kept me up for basically 2 days. Originally from Australia it was refreshing to find such a great place in the middle of London. I was in town for the Rugby World Cup final :( and came by to watch the 3rd place match between South Africa and Argentina. The place was extremely busy. Despite how crazy it was I managed to get served very quickly at the food counter with a great meat pie. At the bar I tried several of the Aussie beers many which I didn't even think were even being exported. Relatively they were priced well. The only negative thing I can say is that the upper area was all closed off for a private function and it was hardly being used. It would have been nice to be able to sit somewhere while eating. I have mixed feelings about this place; the last time I was here it was to see England being beaten by Australia in a rugby friendly whilst surrounded by a load of Aussies. It was a painful moment. However, I can't imagine a better place in London to watch sport. I tried to count the nuber of screens in this place and I think it was about 40 including one giant screen which is turned on for special occasions and fills the entirity of the far wall. This place is something of a mecca for rugby fans from the Southern hemisphere who come for the sport and the range of lagers and food hailing from that part of the globe. It's also massive and on big game days the atmosphere can be quite intoxicating. Drinks are many and fairly decently priced and the grub isn't bad either. A great place to come with a large group of mates, it doesn't have that nauseating machismo common to so many sports bars and the crowd is generally friendly, sports banter aside. read more

I'm a bit shocked by the positive reviews of this bar...maybe it's because I arrived sober and left sober as well while it seems the other Yelp reviewers indulged in a lots and lots of cocktails at Walkabout! My hubby and I were enjoying a walk along the river, started to get hungry and spotted Walkabout. This bar is huge and definitely has tons of televisions to broadcast sports (or, while we were there...a gospel music channel = weird). There was only one bartender and a line up of 2-3 other people already at the bar ordering drinks for their entire table, which meant it took close to ten minutes to get a beer and a bloody mary. Our food took a ridiculous amount of time to be served. Once our food was finally served (I was tempted to serve myself after seeing the nachos sit under the heat lamps for close to 5 mins), our nacho chips were burnt. Burnt, as in quite a few were black. How does a bar mess up nachos?! The waitstaff was in the process of attempting to hang up beer/booze banners while we were there. It was kinda amusing to see them drag a broken ladder (and then a ladder that was too short) around the bar in an attempt to hang the banners, but it seemed like an effort that should have been done after hours. I used to be a regular here back in the day. I can't believe i've not reviewed this place. In my regular days, it was called "shoeless joes". And it was a brilliant bar back then. Then it became a Walkabout, and sort of lost the nightclub feel and turned more into a bar. We stopped coming here after that. They took out the big dance area. But all in all, still not a bad bar, well big bar but still just a bar. I still give it 4 stars, cause it's better than a boring pub and I would rather be here than many places. Don't judge me - I have a very good reason for being here at 2pm on a Thursday, namely that I had just sat a 4 hour exam at KCL and could barely think let alone walk to an alternative. As you can tell I am somewhat sceptical of Walkabouts generally - I remember drinking snakebite with my feet sticking to the floor in numerous branches, quite fondly really, but I'm not 18 any more sadly... Right, so THIS Walkabout. It's easier to bulletpoint: - it's huge - the TV screen is huge and plays cricket - other Tv screens play triathlon, which is interesting - the barstaff at 2pm on a Thursday were somewhat slow, and struggled with the notion of a burger WITH cheese - the burger and a pint/coke deal is excellent - the burger is edible and filled a rumbly stomach - they have Heinz mayonnaise In a word, I'd say this bar in the middle of the day is convenient. I can imagine at other times, it has sticky floors and smells of snakebite. read more

I went here on students' night and really hated it. The crowd were extremely sloppy and drunk. The music was awful. Hard to maneuver to the bar. A lot of crying and arguing going on. Saw a couple guys start getting rough with eachother over football... There wasn't a match on or anything... Thar kind of place. Unless you want to dance with messy drinkers, I'd avoid college night. As an expat living in the UK I enjoy the atmosphere the Walkabout has during big sporting events. FA Cup finals, Euro's, World Cups which could be cricket, football, rugby etc but most of all is AFL grand final. With a TV screens everywhere and a big screen at the front. There are booths up top and along the sides. Ahh Walkabouts - there are a fair few across London and I think this might be the pick of them - for watching sport that is! You should know before you enter a walkabout, if you haven't done already, that you're stepping into an identikit antipodean pub that serves the same southern hemisphere beers to the same mix of punters all looking for the same night as they had last time they were in the walkabout! Walkabouts might not be for you... but if you like watching sport (preferably rugby), big wide open spaces, don't mind p!ssed australians and average food, then you're going to enjoy. The thing I like most about this Walkabout is that it's flexible - come Friday night its full of the suits I like to hang around with to unwind after a long week; on a Saturday it's going to be rammed with those same suits that've swapped their ties for national team shirts; and on Sundays it's serving hangover lunches to the same crowd again. Big tables, huge bar, never ending all hours food menu and countless pints of snakebite. Happy days. read more

I was denied entry to this establishment because, after I had been ID'd and told to enter, I answered the bouncers question "who is the next in queue?" by indicting the person behind me, and saying we're part of the same group. That individual was allowed entry, but I wasn't, and despite repeated requests, no explanation was provided. This is plainly wrong. Stop #15 - Temple When looking for a pub at Temple, you usually don't make it past the Walkabout. It's right next to the station, the drinks are cheap, the place massive, and given that it caters to Aussies and Kiwis, it loves a good messy pub crawling group. As Craig M describes it (far more eloquently than I could), the Walkabout is "an identikit antipodean pub that serves the same southern hemisphere beers to the same mix of punters all looking for the same night as they had last time they were in the walkabout!" My favourite thing about the Walkabout (or any Walkabout) is that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. Like that one alcoholic friend in every group, the goal is to get you sloshed and dancing as quickly as possible. Basically, it has a massive bar, friendly and efficient staff, tvs everywhere, and a floor that is conducive to cleaning via fire hose so they don't really mind you dropping a drink or two. In the evenings, it turns into a massive dance area but for the purposes of this review it made our fairly large group seem minute. We spread out, took a break to catch up on the game and sip a pint in relative ease, and a much needed bathroom break. Drink of choice: Snakebite. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's half a pitn of lager mixed with half a pint of cider. You can add a dash of blackcurrant cordial for a bit of sweetness and a bit of color although purists will call that a Snakebite Black. If you are looking for a fun karaoke place for your Thursday night you should definitely stop by the Walkabout! The crowd is fun and it doesn't get too crowded on week nights. You can also take advantage of their half price happy hour drinks and the £1 shots they offer towards the end of the night. If you are a fun of snakebites you can order one as cider with black hair currant, and I guarantee you'll love it. It makes me think of my uni years... Food wise, I would recommend the burgers and the sweet potato fries that I always have to get when I'm there. The husband has been going on about Walkabout and we were finally there to watch the kick off match for Euro '16. It was a Friday evening and we paid 5 pounds each to get in (card accepted). Make sure you are carrying ID proof. Walkabout would get 4 or 5 stars for me had it not been for the bad service that was a complete let down. One of the worst I have experienced. I wouldn't even give them benefit of doubt for the crowds because they were well staffed. To add to the annoyance, most of the card machines weren't working, which added to the long waiting! Considering they had a cash point inside the club, I don't know why they couldn't just put up a sign! I was particularly angry when I was waiting in the food queue (there's a separate area to order food) and when it was my turn the lady told me "we don't accept cards". So I went to the cash point, got cash, queued up again...only to see her accepting another guy's card!! So I asked her why she couldn't accept my card. To which her ridiculous reply was, "I had to try 5 times before it went through". So I asked why she could try his card but not mine! She tried to cover up by saying he ended up paying cash...a blatant lie because I saw his transaction go through. Once the food and drinks (we got lots of drinks at one go to avoid the crazy queue again!) were sorted, it was a party. Great atmosphere for the screening. Post match, the tables were cleared and some great music to dance to. Great place for a match screening and dancing. Service needs some serious working on! read more

We watched the Champions League final last year here, and that night brings back too many painful memories. But, on the plus side, the Walkabout was one of the few bars that actually had enough space to be able to get in and still see the TV. The only good night to visit a walkabout (there is never really a good night), is a Monday - there are cheap drinks (as far as I can remember) - a wide range of drinks are £1. This includes fosters (an aussie favourite), jd and coke (my favourite), a wide range of alcopops and maybe a few others. I spent an excellent evening/morning in here very recently with friends after being thoroughly entertained in the adjacent comedy club. The place is huge inside with loads of seating available (well until it fills up anyway!), with the opportunity of booking reserved seats in comfortable chairs by the window overlooking the river, (I would imagine you may have to book these well in advance for busy nights - although we just gate crashed them anyway!) During the evening we were there we were treated to an excellent band (rock/indie) which certainly added to the atmosphere and a bar that was open until 2am. The place was heaving and bouncing, but a very professional and courteous bar staff ensured customers were still being served very quickly (its amazing just how quick service can be when a pub actually puts enough bar staff behind the bar). One tip I can give when visiting Walkabout establishments is to purchase their loyalty card for a mere £3 and get 20% off all future orders for a year. We did this and saved an absolute fortune during the night (which is a slight indication of how much alcohol was consumed that evening!!!). We never tried the food, but a couple of food platters were delivered to the table next to us and looked delicious. As a pub location alone it is probably worth 3 stars but as a comedy venue and bar, and if you fancy laughing your goolies off watching a bunch of excellent comediens next door before finishing the night off with a rocking band and plenty of alcohol, then this place is certainly one to visit!! read more

I went there with some friends to try out a kangaroo burger, the bottom part of the butt of the burger was missing half, after the first bite I started wondering that it may have been eaten by rats throughout the night in the kitchen. Because the way it was, very weird shape. I complained to a waitress and she simply told me not to go back there anymore! I do not advise you to go there! read more

Australia should be ashamed this place is "associated" with it. Almost empty bar and at least 20 people want to watch Australia play their hockey semi-final but the bar manager wouldn't put it on until 10 minutes into the game. That also included being angry at multiple customers for politely asking to watch it. Finally put it on big screen five minutes into second half. Poor form and disgraceful customer service. This Walkabout is definitely not my favorite one of all the locations. But it's fun to sit at the long tables and chit chat with friends and have french fries (chips excuse me!) and drink a LOT of Fosters. Really loud music. Convenient to the Temple stop obviously, so easy to make your way home after a long night in Australia. read more

I am especially fond of the brazilian night on Mondays because of the excellent mix of typically latin american songs and songs everyone can sing along to. If that isn't enough, there's also the prices: Walkabout is free if you arrive before 7pm and afterwards you only pay 5 pounds. The drinks aren't expensive either. So I lived in London for some time in my undergrad, and this place was REALLY fun. We, as typical Americans would, would head here on Wednesday nights when they had pint specials. The place would turn into a huge, over populated with Americans-who-couldn't-afford-the- exchange-rate crowd, and music of Backstreet Boys, Nsync and Spice Girls. An ultimate dance party, so fun, and cheap drinks. Such a good spot. read more

Visited this place to watch rugby last Saturday. It was a disaster. We pre booked a table which is where the star ratings stop for this bar. Massively understaffed with around 6 bar tenders in total, this meant the wait for a drink was 40 minutes to an hour both at the main bar and the 'Beach Bar' The Line in the room where we were had just one bar staff and line at one point running back in to the main room. Lots of customers, myself include opted to buy a pitcher of beer see that we may never reach the bar again. Rather than get a pitcher pouring and serving another customer while it poured all the bar staff seem content to stand watching a jug fill for 3 to 5 minutes ignoring the massive lines at every serving point. This bar probably makes a lot of money but it could be taking 3 to 5 times as much over the bar if they employed capable bar staff and enough bar staff to cope with a Saturday of multiple matches across multiple sports. So, we rocked up here Friday night after work. Party for four?? Yes please. There was no entry charge before 9pm and after then only £2 per person, with £2.00 drinks (can't remember what they were) all night too so you could say it was worth while trekking there. However, when we got int, there were no tables either. Fortunately for us, this place is filled with Aussie's (Australians), Saffa's (South Africans) and Kiwi's (New Zealanders) whom are quite friendly so it was very easy to ask some people if we could share their table, which they so nicely obliged. Not only were the patrons friendly (for London anyway), so were the staff. Exception of course for a very clumsy galss-boy who tried to carry too many glasses back hence ending up smashing glass all over our table. Other than that they were quite well equipped on how to provide customer service. This glass-boy not so much however, as it took us three times asking him if he can sweep up the broken glass in which another glass-boy ended up doing anyway. The meals were priced reasonably i thought, the portions, however, were quite small so therefore not equalling value for money. Tasted alright, for average pub-like food, which i'm not complaining about believe me :-). The dance floor is medium size but that really doesn't matter because everyone dancers anywhere in the pub due to the nice bouncers clearing away all the unused tables throughout the night therefore making more room. The music is top 40/pub tunes but sometimes the DJ gets a little confused and replays his songlist which is a little disappointing. Other than that no other complaints. A special mention is deserved here for the amount of toilet cubicles in the female toilets. Finally, a place where there is more than two or three toilets for 50 ladies, so no lining up is required!!! :-D SO, if a fun, dancing, pash-and-dash night is what you are after, head here for a few snakebites to warm up and you will definately achieve your aim!!! read more

I'm a bit undetermined with this pub. One hand, it's not too bad a place to go in London, crowded, good music, stuff like that. On the other hand, I had two unpleasant experiences when I was there: First: at about half past ten, they had no beer left! Catastrophe for a pub. Shouldn't happen. Second: we were there with an Indian lass and she got mobbed by an English Skinhead. Bad publicity for any place with such folks around. Of course, this could happen anywhere. But it happened there. So, conclusion is somehow schizophrenic: I like this pub and then I don't. read more

Tried to go to Walkabout this evening to watch the match and have a burger, had a table booked and everything. One of our group didn't have I.D. but since two out of three of us did the first bouncer outside the building said it wouldn't be a problem. We get just inside the front door but still not inside proper and a second bouncer again asks my mate for I.D. We start explaining that there's two of us who have I.D. and that your colleague said it would be alright etc etc... and he, the second bouncer, just goes off on one. He starts saying that he will only talk to my mate and if more than one person talks he will consider it a row. This is at 7.30pm on a Wednesday night by the way, us stone cold sober and coming from work. He then told my mate he wasn't getting in, was unbelievably rude and handled the whole thing in the worst possible manner, policy or no. We're in our thirties by the way so not exactly in danger of being confused as underage. Walkabout tell your door staff to get some manners and stop acting like the typical jumped up idiots on power trips. They are the front line of your organisation, you would do well to remember that. read more

For those of you who would rather poke your eye out than go to a Walkabout this is one of the better ones. Because of it's sheer size you do not feel smothered by Ozzies, Kiwis etc and there are plenty of good Brits here. Great place to watch football. There are screens above almost every tabe. You can also keep up with the game when you go to the toilet with screens above the urinals apparently. Beer is the usual fare, nothing too exciting and the food is basic but ok if you are starving after a few pints. read more

I have been twice now- once for a World Cup game and once in the middle of the day on a Sunday. During the World Cup game the food came out and the wings were cold and rubbery. Basically inedible. We sent them back and got slightly warmer ones. The sliders were also cold. On the Sunday I went and realized they do not even have any Australian beer on tap. Also the place was FILTHY. Left over food all over the tables and the floor and the bathroom was also in poor condition. read more
