When you go to a barber or hair salon at least 6 times, and you're personable, tip well, and…read morepolite, you might expect the business owner of a two man salon to say "hi", make you feel welcome, at least because it's smart business, humane, and the name of the business bears his name. Not Pete. For the last two months, at times from 11am to 2:30pm Tuesday through Saturday on at least 10 occasions, I've driven to Pete's Barber Shop and their gates are always closed. Having been their previously, and their gates were open during business hours, and having taken pictures for reviews, I know that to be true and reality. They have a phone line that they do not answer.
So over the weekend, I drove my bike over to see if they were open- the first time the gates were closed on a Friday, while 4 people, other than the barbers were in the salon. I was told they were closed. Pete was on his mobile phone, and I asked "what are your hours, because anytime I drive by the gates are locked." Pete responded. So I went to his barbershop the next day and arrived at 3pm, before their 4pm closing time. Two customers had just walked out, even though the gates were closed. I watched as one man walked in, even though the gates were closed, while I was putting the lock on my bike.
I walked up to the gate with two open padlocks hanging from it, as was the case the day prior, and when I opened the door, Pete was quick to rush over and tell me "were closed". I said to him, "I was here yesterday and you told me your hours. You stated you were open until 4. Pete stated they're "open until 3pm." Pete showed no empathy, and acted as if he could care less. The salon had people packed in there. Pete told me that every time I drive by with the gates closed that it must've been when they were closed. Please look up the phrase gas lighting. That's what Pete attempted to do to someone who told him that every time he drove past the salon and the gates were closed, it had to be when they were closed. PETE'S SHOP HAS THE GATES CLOSED DAILY.
I returned to the salon an hour and forty minutes later (see the time Day stamped pictures). The salon had at least 4 customers inside, and 2 were in barber chairs getting hair cuts. You can see the time and day stamped pictures, lights are on, people are inside. You can see from several sites online- all of which state Pete's hours. NOWHERE does it state that they close at 3pm on any day. It wasn't because of the Easter holiday the next day. The barber shop is closed on Sunday snd Monday every week.
I don't know if Pete had an awakening and has an issue with non-colored customers patronizing his salon. But, when you go to a salon and repeatedly are told they are closed, and you're not allowed in, while customers of a different race are allowed in, you sadly have to question reality. I don't condone bigotry, racism, antisemitism, nor any type of prejudice. I cannot recommend a salon that discriminates who they allow into their salon, nor a business that doesn't treat their customers politely and professionally. Pictures don't lie, nor does a photographic memory. I would rather, and did, pay nearly 70% more to go to a salon where they are kind, welcoming, professional, and provide excellent service, than go to a salon where they act as if you're trying to get into a club, and they're on the other side of the velvet rope. Pete's is not a salon that's professional. Their pricing is arbitrary. I've gone in for haircuts and paid more than someone sitting beside me who had started getting a cut long before me, yet they paid less- on more than one occasion. I wish people treated others how they would want to be treated. However, Pete's is a microcosm of the myopic society we live in. I recommend you patronize a local salon that values you as a customer and treats you properly. Don't expect either at Pete's.
