Asked to have my rounded hairline lined up, he cut it back an inch and created this squared look

Diaclaimer: This review applies to my experience with a single barber called Comfort. I can't speak for all the barbers in the shop, some of whom I witnessed doing good work. So, I believe it is possible to get a good haircut here, just not from this particular barber. I had a tapered cut that was growing out and was looking for a barbershop to fade down the back. I took a chance on this place since it was nearby. I stupidly thought: I just want a fade, how bad can they mess that up? Walked in and a gentleman lounging in the wait area asks me if I'm looking for a haircut. Tells me to go to back of the shop and have a seat. That should've been the first clue. He puts on the smock and begins looking for his tools. Still hasnt bothered to ask me anything about the cut I'm looking for. So I tell him, to make sure he can pull it off. My exact instructions were for a 2 inch blended fade at the back of my head (I pointed out the area in the mirror to be sure). I dont like the look of the squared neckline with my style so I ask for a rounded hairline at the back. In front, I only wanted my existing hairline cleaned up, specifically asked for no changes. I also pointed to a specific design pictured on the wall for my undercut. He walked over to confirm the style and said he understood. He begins with the undercut but I keep feeling like something is cutting me. He tells me not to worry, everything's fine. Then he moves to the front to "cleanup" my hairline. I start seeing chunks of hair falling and ask why he appears to be cutting hair from my front hairline. He continues telling me to calm down and not to worry. He actually tells me that he's not cutting ANY hair, he's only lining up the edges. Then he takes a razor to a spot higher on my forehead. He did EVERY SINGLE THING I said NOT TO DO! I ended up with squared edges, he took my hairline back a full inch in the front, the fade just went from longer hair to no hair without any gradation or blend. The cut was extremely uneven with lumps of hair in some places and a razor-close shave in others. And my undercut design was a Bullshit line across the middle of the shaved area, not the curved design I asked for. What's worse, he actually cut a line in my skin clear across the back of my neck (see pics). Thankfully, I can hide the butchery beneath a wig. Not sure how a guy would. Other barbers in the shop may be skilled, but I would definitely stay away from the one called Comfort. Wasn't jack-shit "comfortable" about my experience.

Blind Barber in Philly is one of the best true speakeasies I've been to. Located right near…read moreRittenhouse Square in a super lively area, it looks like a regular barbershop from the outside. But walk through the shop and into the back -- and boom -- you're in a whole hidden bar. It's got that classic speakeasy feel without trying too hard. Parking-wise, there's street parking nearby, but it fills up quickly, so plan ahead. When I visited, only the upstairs bar was open (the downstairs one was closed), but the vibe was still great. The space is simply decorated -- nothing over the top -- but it works. The bartender was super friendly and made the experience even better. I ordered the wings and a Diet Coke, and let me just say... those wings were phenomenal. Some of the best I've had at a bar. The staff overall was warm, helpful, and attentive. One heads-up: I tried to go the night before (Wednesday), and even though their hours said they were open late, they closed around 11 because it wasn't busy. Apparently, they sometimes close early on Wednesdays and Thursdays if the crowd isn't there. Totally understandable -- just make sure to give them a quick call before heading over on a weeknight.
