Part 1- This is in reference to the review that "Love K." left claiming that the owner of the store…read moreused the "N" word and that the general environment of the store is racist. This couldn't be further from the truth. It's so unfortunate that apps like Yelp can be abused and used as a tool for people like this woman to submit false accusations, without any repercussions, and are intended to bring economic and personal harm to the owner of the store as well as the employees who depend on it for their livelihood. The owner is very rarely in the store and when he is, he is not on the sales floor. He is a God fearing, religious Christian man who is beyond kind. His employees do, in fact, follow customers around the store for a couple of reasons. The store is very large and contains tens of thousands of products. It can be difficult to locate a specific product for a customer and for customer service sake, employees do their best to remain nearby in case their assistance is needed. Also, the economic loss to the store because of the incessant theft that occurs throughout each and every day is not only a fact, this statement doesn't not come close to giving you a realistic understanding of the issue being unexaggeratedly like an aggressive cancer that will multiply at an unbelievably rapid pace if you let your guard down for even one moment, no matter if that moment is a mere fraction of time. There are approximately 30-40 cameras throughout the store with a very large television screen that is suspended just above the checkout area. When the cashiers aren't attending to customer purchases, they maintain focus on the screen to, obviously, look out for shoplifters or other activities that negatively impact the store, it's employees, it's customers, it's products or the safety of anyone that is in the store. Besides theft there are people who will intentionally damage products, intentionally create dangerous situations by pouring hair oils and the like on hard flooring, adults both transient and non transient who will seek out an area of the store to prey on vulnerable people such as young women shopping alone or children who are allowed to run around the store unattended by their parents, this being another constant issue that employees must remain vigilant about. The store contains highly poisonous chemicals that can cause harm and can even be lethal if inhaled or ingested and can burn skin and eyes and when children are running around wild knocking over bottles of chemicals or curiously prying open packages and containers to see what's inside, not only is it dangerous but it also causes the store further economic loss because they can no longer sell that product because the seal has been broken. If the employees didn't keep an aggressive eye out for theft, the cost would be passed on to the consumer. And to say that they employees target black people specifically is ridiculous. This is a beauty supply store that caters specifically to men and women of color. This is not a beauty supply store where you will find products for Caucasian, Asian or Hispanic hair. The products carried in this store are for one ethnic and racial population only and that is the black population. There's nothing racist about a store having a policy to stay near customers and keep an eye out for theft when theft is a ginormous problem and every customer is basically the same race. No one is being singled out. Everyone is being watched and you can thank the jerks who come in and steal and make it such a bad problem that even 40 cameras and every employees eyes cannot reduce the theft to not being such a bad problem still yet! I was employed at this store for 3 months immediately after I was laid off from my job in CA when the pandemic first hit. My very sweet, 64 year old, hardest working woman I've ever known, carries herself with dignity, respect and grace and who is adored by countless black women who have come to entrust her with the health and beauty of their hair and skin, my Korean mom who has been employed at this store 6-7 days a week, from open to close for over a decade now, deserves to be acknowledged for her loyalty and contribution both to the store and to the community that she has been there for despite the fact that she is undeservingly verbally attacked and ridiculed for her race, her accent and her Asian eyes.
