While inside I saw that they carried some of everything beauty related. Hair care, skin care, some make-up, accessories for hair too. I even saw hair care products from small businesses. She doesn't just carry larger brands in her store. The owner was so nice and explained how she named her store. She also said she hosts braiding events for people who may not be able to afford to go to salons. Of course the people braiding are professionals, they just don't charge like salons do. I was thoroughly impressed and happy to have found her shop. Her prices are comparable to other beauty supply stores too. I was able to purchase some products from 2 companies that I typically have to buy from online, so no waiting to receive a shipment in the mail. The store was clean and inviting. The owner answered any questions I had and I was able to support a black owned business in my community while also getting some hair care products that I needed.

I was able to get an appointment on the same day I broke down and decided I couldn't wait another day for enough gas to wander around Atlanta to find the salon I actually wanted to visit. And, hell, who says local means bad? Right? So, the place is right next to a Target. I thought, in this era of conservation, maybe I should combine errands in one handy shopping center. Bonus: I already knew where this salon was. Inside, the place was a little crowded with ladies sporting the kind of hairdos that you can buy as a wig. I think the color is called "frosted". One of them with a flip version, probably called Bethany in the catalogues, was my date. She motioned me right back. She spent a few minutes consulting with me. It went something like this: "I'm in a hair rut, and I'd do anything to avoid pageant hair. Whaddaya say?" I showed her a picture of the bob that had been my companion, in one version or another, for the past year, and we got started. The shampoo girl there, by the way, deserves a raise. "Bethany" showed me a hair oil that smelled like the beach and vowed it would solve all my hair straightening woes. She cut a bob of very straight lines, without the A, but the product smoothed my hair like glass, so I couldn't really complain about all the bulk she left behind. The oil, though, was 40.00. My hair cut? I was "cute as a button". Salon verdict? Well, do you ask your grandmother to dress you before you go on a date? More importantly though, now I use Organix shea butter oil on my hair before I blow dry it... which is freaking awesome. Thanks, next door target, at 4.99. No more frizz.

As should be a well established fact, going off visual recommendations is always a better choice that just guessing based on online reviews (ignoring the irony of that statement in this context). Anyways, I made an appointment with Sara, who was willing to work around my schedule and coordinate to lock down a time for a relatively short-notice appointment. I explained the issues I had with my previous cut, and she readily picked up on what would be the ideal high and lowlights necessary to get back to the preferred hairstyle. I left with a very natural looking blonde that I expect will last me a good amount of weeks without streaky roots. The shop itself in in a large shopping center without many frills, but a good number of stylists and chairs and a solid stream of clients in and out the whole visit. They truly care about the health of your hair here and are gentle during every stage of the process. Asheba & Crystal have both nurtured my hair during pregnancy & the postpartum stages- recommending what to do when I'm not here and course correcting bad hair practices that they've been able to detect without me even telling them. I always get the wash day special! It includes a wash, condition, steam treatment and trim if you need PLUS two strand twists or defined coils. And it's reasonably priced around $120! You can't beat that, especially now when most places want you to come prewashed. Another plus: they only schedule one person at a time so it may take you a while to get on the books but your time slot with your stylist will not be shared with anyone. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that you have to block out a large chunk of time to get your hair done as they sometimes move on the slower end.
