I usually pick up my meds from Walmart Pharmacy on South Main St in High Point, but for whatever reason, my Primary Care Provider sent the refill order to Walgreens at 904 N. Main St, I didn't know until I got the text advising me that the prescription was ready for pick up. After, coming from a sleep center counsultation in Kernersville, I drove directly to Walgreens. There was a young African-American male at the window. He was good, polite, very professional. He asked me to verify some information --the usual: name, DOB, address. He went to get the pens and asked me where I got my pens from before. I told him from Walmart on South Main. He asked me if I'd taken any other dosages. I said that I was started on the lowest dosage, but that the dosage was increased because the lower doses did little for my A1c. That's when things went bad. I've never really liked Walgreens; I've always found the pharmacists at THIS particular location rude, and not just to me, but I figured just picking up a prescription shouldn't be much of a hassle. Drive in, request meds, receive meds, drive the eight minutes home... BOOM! DONE! But, then, another pharmacist who had been working at a computer stormed over, takes the prescription from the other guy and started barking "YOU CAN'T START AT THIS DOSE!" That, to me, anyway, was a stupid remark. I must have started at the lower doses in order to get to the 12.5 mL. So, I said "I know. She started me at the lowest dose, but I had to work my way up." "YOU CAN'T START AT THIS DOSE," he yelled again. "WHERE DID YOU GET THE OTHER PENS FROM?' "Walmart on South Main," I told him. "YOU DIDN'T GET THEM FROM HERE. YOU CAN'T START OUT WITH THIS DOSE!" "No," I said, "they're usually sent to Walmart on South Main. I don't know how they ended up here." He grows increasingly frustrated. "YOU CAN'T START WITH THIS DOSE!" I started to drive off, but my wife reminded me that I really needed that medication. I hadn't had it for just over six weeks because there were backorders; there was a shortage of meds like Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, etc., because they were (so I was told by one of Walgreens' own pharmicist two days prior) mostly being prescribed for obesity, rather than diabetes and A1c. As I started to explain that I HAD, indeed, used the lower doses, but I usually get the pens from Walmart, he slammed the phone down, typed something on the computer by the drive-thru window, then stormed back over to his workstation. I didn't see where any of that was relevant. I HAD gotten meds from that Walgreens before, but only five times in -- what? Six years. I only go to Walgreens if my provider sends the meds there by mistake; if she punches the WALGREENS tab, rather than the WALMART tab. In fact, just two days prior -- one of those five times -- I picked up my metformin from that location and no one asked me if I used a lower dose of that. I'm not saying ALL Walgreens locations are bad. My wife gets her medications from Walgreens and has never experienced anything close to that. The worst she's seen was having to wait for the pharmacy to restock the needed meds. This location, however, is just a bad apple.
