We made a call to the shop and talked to "The Adam Fields" and he gave us the number to his manager. We were told to stop by the next day and they did a swap out for us. I was nervous about the 1:4 ratio, but since they were on the younger end, it was mostly a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for them. I had visions of them being pulled under a wave and being traumatized by the ocean forever, and it's true they did get hit by the board a few times, but the instructors were so positive that the kids didn't mind much, kind of like how falling is a fact of life when you're learning to walk (but we don't tell kids not to learn to walk). I learned a thing or two too - instead of reaching to a bad wipeout with "Are you ok??", I can try saying "Sick wipeout dude!" :) The one thing I would note is to pay attention to the tides - I think the camps are better at low tide.

When Kelly recommends stretches when you get home - do yourself and your quads a favor and listen to her. The best way to describe Jibtopia is it's like someone had a cool idea to make a custom wake board park pulley system whilst sipping beers around a camp fire with old friends - but then they actually built it. And then they built a bar, and then an ATV track, and then a club, and then adorable cabins, and then adorably clean showers for the cabins, and bought horses... This place is an outdoor lovin'-wake board learner's dream come true. You see, while I know I give off the air of a professional board sports person *sarcasm* - I've never once been on a wake board. But Andy and Kelly (the insanely nice owners who take beer talks seriously) had both me and Rob running down the full length of the private lake within 3 hours (might I also add they have the patience of 10 angels). Things to note: - If you're following Google maps, DON'T turn down the road it defaults to unless you want to say hey to Cole and help a guy mow his lawn. Go to the next left where you'll find a giant sign saying JIBTOPIA - that's where the park is. - Sunglasses aren't recommended and after greeting the water with my face at full-speed, I've got to agree. - I wore a bikini top and board shorts - I think I made the right choice. They provide the board, the helmets, and the life jackets - which you will very much need. BRING A TOWEL. - Do get lessons - these cats are insanely awesome teachers and made the whole experience top notch. They are really able to narrow down your issues and help with form. - Bring bug spray! Turns out my blood must taste like ripe mangoes or something - I'm covered in mosquito bites. - Bring shower gear (shampoos, towels, etc) and a dry change of clothes - they have really awesome showers and it's nice to towel off after that workout. - You can bring a camera, they have tables nearby to grab that award winning Nat-Geo shot and still keep your camera dry.

Initially I was alarmed when a trip to the Glenwood PIAS revealed it was closed! No worries,…read morebecause they opened another location much closer to home, over on Falls of Neuse. I was looking for another (heavier) kettlebell as well as some kettlebell workout DVDs. Anytime I need anything related to sports that I don't necessarily want to order from Amazon, I'll go to PIAS first. This is a great alternative to Dick's Sporting Goods, which is more expensive. PIAS doesn't have the clothing and most other apparel that DSG has, but you can't beat the equipment prices in here. At the other location, my sister got football pads for my nephew for half of what she would have paid elsewhere. You can get equipment for baseball, basketball, football, rollerblading, weightlifting, tennis, golf, and other items like treadmills too. Here, I got a 15-lb kettlebell (no DVDs though) and will be back for a pair of new Rollerblades. The guy who runs the place knows an area kettlebell trainer and looked up his number for me on my way out. He also offered to help me with a beginner lesson for rollerblading if I want. He is super-nice and very helpful to customers, as I noted while strolling through the store. Definitely stop here FIRST before you go anywhere else for your sports needs!
