I only recommend if you MUST stop. I just stopped, not sure if staff is on duty on Sunday at 5pm. The women restroom are not cleaned and does not appear to have been cleaned today. A tardy update from early Spring. Nice to upgrade to a 5 star experience. The grounds clear of debris. Restrooms updated and clean and best of all the merchandise and hospitality in the visitors area. One of Virginia's best rest area. read more

Virginia is for Lovers! I love stopping in to see the love song, stretch my legs & use the restrooms.

The staff were super helpful, and proactive in getting us brochures for where we were going and telling us about the ferry. We ate outside at a picnic table, but they actually had a few tables inside! At the time we were there, about half od the women's restroom was out of order. read more

When crossing into state borders, I always try to stop at the State welcome center and Virginia was no different. Unfortunately it WAS closed. However I did have a chance to walk around the beautifully landscaped grounds and and enjoy the scenery for a little bit while taking a bit of a break for a long drive. Did you know that bees sleep in flowers? Neither did I until visiting here at dusk. That was pretty cool to learn. read more

Love the restrooms here!. They are big, very well lighted, clean and CIVILIZED...and by civilized I mean 21st century amenities like.... Disposable seat covers! No more TP'ing toilet seats like Cro Magnon women...we can now approach the throne like gentlewomen! This rest stop has many helpful amenities in addition to restrooms and everything inside and and out is neat and clean Lots of parking for both personal and commercial vehicles (like tour buses and cargo trucks) that are positioned right at the rest stop building There are entrance doors on both sides of the building, the side with the LOVE sign is the front with restrooms on right and visitor center on left There are two sets of restrooms for both men and women, and all are in rooms with a separate entrance and a separate exit door They have automatic hand soap, automatic water, and automatic paper towels so you won't need to use your hands There are vending machines both in the main corridor between restrooms and also right of the main entrance doors with recycling and trash receptacles - I didn't check out the prices or selection There's a large general map with a "you are here" marking - I'm not sure whether it would be difficult to decipher or not If you have concerns about this center, there's a number you can call or a UPC code you can scan They have a small playground outside for the kiddies Very clean, quiet, cool rest stop with a visitor center, restroom, and snack food items which is a great place to stretch your legs and catch your breath a bit before you head to your intended destination read more

Not your average highway rest area, this welcome center has the usual bathrooms and vending machines but there is also a large lobby with helpful people who will get you set up with Virginia hotels and other tourist destinations. Of all the travelling I did from home here in Virginia to Mississippi and back, this was the best rest area of all the states we crossed through (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi). This rest area also seems to be the most technologically advanced ones as well. The rest area is located just inside the Virginia state line at mile marker one. The outdoor landscape when you drive in is well manicured and kept up. Of all the rest areas I went to on this recent trip, this was the only rest area to actually have a playground for children. This is great when you're travelling with a five year old. The inside of this rest area is beautiful. There are plenty of vending machines with many options available to you. Use cash if you can when using the vending machines, as the cost increases ten cents when using credit instead. Also, there are big kiosks where you can get directions and just about anything else you need. The restrooms here are well maintained as well. I've noticed overall Virginia welcome centers tend to have some of the cleanest and well maintained restrooms around. The restrooms and vending are open 24 hours daily. There is a visitor center in here as well, which is open daily from 8:30 am to 5 pm. You can get maps of the state, directions and setting up hotel reservations if needed. I didn't need any reservations since I was on my way home. However, I do like to pick up the state transportation map when I do come back. This is a great rest area for everyone, including those with children. With a great outdoor landscape, picnic tables, and a stellar visitor center and restrooms, you just can't go wrong coming here. If this rest area is along your route, you should definitely stop in here. You'll be able to get just about anything you need about Virginia. read more

Bathrooms are fairly clean but vending machine options are quite limited. Virtually no snacks are available without cheese or dairy.

Clean bathrooms! Vending machines and a nice lobby with plenty of benches make this center really live up to its purpose. VDOT is pretty well known for keeping their roads in great shape compared to other (cough, cough) states so I would not expect any less with their rest areas. If you are driving north into VA from NC this is a great place to stop, stretch the legs, use the facilities, and take a break from the monotony of interstate highways driving. There is an ample parking lot for cars and trucks (in the back) and many pinic shelters to stop and have a nice time outside of the car on your long trip. Lots of grassy area to play for kids and your four legged companions too. read more

As far as Welcome Centers, this is as good as it gets! The bathrooms were clean and had a plethora of stalls. They have tons of vending machines, and although overpriced, they have a wide variety of snacks and beverages. This location felt safe and helpful. read more

I love this welcome center. The best part of all is that it has a small playground. If you are traveling with young kids, it's the perfect spot to have a snack at a picnic table and let your toddler or preschooler loose to get some energy out before hitting the road again. There is a visitor center open until 5pm , bathrooms and vending machines with snacks and drinks. Everything was well lit and felt safe. Bonus: the adorable litter of feral black and white kitties ! The cleanest and most inviting rest stop I have EVER been at. Very large and clean bathrooms. Lots of vending machines with large snack& drink options. They had inside seating to eat near the vending machines and outside picnic tables that were right near the parking lot & under shelter, which were a perfect spot for the fam to have a quick lunch. And the information center is really helpful. A young lady by the name of Anna really helped me out with some questions I had. Always clean and well lit. Gas is reasonable compared to most stops and they try their hardest to keep the bathrooms fresh.

They have tons of vending machines and clean restrooms and a decent size pet area. They just can't get that 5th star because they don't do complimentary coffee and sodas like they do at the Mississippi and Georgia welcome center. Guess you really are leaving the south. read more

This is the nicest Welcome Center/Rest stop I think I have ever stopped at. In addition to the staffed welcome center, there is an ATM indoors, along with indoor vending machines. Very nice and spacious rest area. Being the welcome center on the VA/NC line, in addition to the usual restrooms and vending machines there's also a large lobby and counter where you can get all sorts of VA tourist information. The place is kept very clean and the parking area very well lit at night so feeling safe never really an issue. Plus there is a constant flow of people all the time, even at night. I stop here almost every trip back from visiting my parents. There is a fair amount of shaded grassy area too if you just want to stretch your legs or walk the pup. Have taken refuge here when driving through the monsoons that precede a hurricane and caught 40 winks at all hour of the day when I was just too tired to keep driving safely. read more

Greeters were friendly. Holiday decorations up. EXTREMELY clean with no lingering urine smell. No restaurants but vending machines with snack, coffee and sandwich choices. It was just shocking. Glad we did not bypass as we normally do. read more
