52p for an apple? Really? I know it is a delicious Pink Lady, but is this what the world is…read morecoming to? (These are the thoughts I just conveyed to the lady at the till when purchasing my apple...) As this is my local supermarket, I spend a lot of time here, and as a regular face, many members of staff now say hi to me and we have a chit chat - I like this, it makes for a nice community vibe, and makes the shopping experience generally more personal and friendly. Recently though, I have found that they often don't have the items I am looking for (eg. black beans/ innocent pots/ coconut yogurt) but I suppose this can be forgiven, seeing as how this is not one of those ginormous, mega-supermarkets... Also, is it just me, or is Sainsbury's more expensive than some of the other major UK supermarkets? Just a thought... On the plus side, this store always has good deals and special offers on wine and champers and they have an extensive magazine selection at the front of the store, which I frequently stop at for a good 20 minute power browse after purchasing my shopping!

If you keep your shopping to basket size its pretty quick to pay, the ques for trolleys can get very long and tend to back up down the aisles. This can all be avoided if you stay away during peak times and if you have less than 5 items pop down to the ciggarette counter and you'll be out in no time. At the end of the day its a Sainsburys and no-one is going to make the trip out to see it but if you live in the area its more than sufficient to get your weekly groceries.

I love the Sainsbury's Basics range which I virtually live off if I'm not entertaining guests. One can take quite a basketful to the checkout and it only seems to total a few pounds. I won 4 tickets to a top West End theatre show Treasure Island worth about £180 from their magazine although unlike Morrisons and Tesco this magazine is not free. I was also selected to take part in a customer listening exercise for Sainsbury's which lasted about an hour and took place at The Marriott Hotel in Maida Vale for which we got a £30 voucher each for an hour of our time. I find most of their staff helpful and their checkouts seem to be spitting out lots of 100 Bonus Nectar Points coupons for me which is handy as I spend 500 points on £2.50 off my shopping. As Big Business I find Sainsbury's less insidious than Tesco but Tesco are more generous I find with their reduced counter. The Basics range is great but milk, cigarette papers, lighters and cigarette filters are cheaper in Poundland and I never buy tobacco from the supermarket any more. Newsagents often sell it cheaper with special pre-printed prices from the manufacturers.

I am a huge fan…read moreof the grab and go meal deals (only £3.85, less than the competitor next door or any fast food). I visited at 8am and the shelves were fully stocked. Having every option of meal deal sandwich available may have been a first for me, and they just released the limited edition holiday specialties yum yum yum! The US really needs to get onboard with this prepacked sandwich/wrap/sub/salad/pasta (that are relatively healthy) plus a snack and beverage for $5. It was very busy inside with what I imagine was mostly the regular weekday comminutors. There are many self-checkouts so the line went fast. Advice for visitors: like the vast majority of stores in the UK, make sure you bring your own bag or you will be charged for one.

This grocery store was highly convenient since my hotel was right across the street…read more Being able to buy cereal for breakfast or a quick heat lamp lunch or dinner helped me save some money. One of the reasons I deducted one star is because one of the female cashiers came off as being rude. She said, "If you want a bag, you should've said so" with so much spite. What in the world was going on in her life that she had to take it out on a customer? Meanwhile, on the other spectrum, her coworkers went out of their way trying to help me find shelf stable milk since my hotel didn't have a fridge. So pros: convenient, helps save some money, some of the employees go out of their way to be helpful. Cons: At least one female cashier needs to be spoken to by management about how she talks to customers.
