Other than these bottom delights, Aldi is pretty crap. It is cheap and I went here in between gigs with bad roots to buy food. The pesto sauce here has an additive for every letter of the alphabet. You can buy cheap flowers here that look nice and not in the process of dying for 2-3 pound. The flowers look as good as Waitrose but for half the price. I don't hate Aldi as much as Sainsbury's. This store is usually not filled with kids. A definite plus and if I really want to make a good impression, I'll get Flowers and Loo Roll. Aww.

Yes, I am a fan of Aldi--It is ridiculously cheap and it is supermarket quality! They carry most brand names as well--quaker, cadbury, ribena, etc.. As far as the store itself--it isn't the biggest place, and it doesn't carry everything but as far as the value--you can definitely stretch your pound here! Some drawbacks are alot of the choices of fresh fruit and veggies are gone by mid-afternoon, they don't always have the same selections, and you have to purchase your bags. You honestly can't beat the value, if you live nearby--this place is an absolute steal!

Iceland Food opened over a year ago on the Broadway. It took over the space that Woolworths (RIP!)…read moreused to occupy. I was initially suspicious of a predominantly frozen food shop on a high street that already had an M&S and several successful corner shops, but I am happy to report Iceland has a place in Mill Hill. Entering the supermarket on a busy Friday afternoon, the aisles were easy to navigate (avec basket, sans trolley), no products were out of stock, and the maximum number of checkout attendants were present. Despite being known for its frozen produce, this Iceland had a good selection of fresh fruit and veg, and at prices comparable to the local newsagents up the road. Obviously, my total shop was much cheaper than if I'd gone to M&S, but the quality of my shop was similarly less. I have removed one star because it is still Iceland, and I am concerned about large corporations coming into small high streets like my own, gradually inching out the local businesses that already provide frozen and fresh produce to the local community. Having visited the Iceland twice more since my first visit, I haven't seen any OAPs/seniors (maybe they go there at other times?), and I can't help but think that the garish lighting and coffin-sized freezers are off-putting (certainly, my mother worries she'll fall in the freezer and then be sold off on special offer...). I was going to remove another star for the higgledy-piggledy arrangement of the non-frozen foods, but I reinstated it on account of excellent customer service - every time I looked confusedly at the aisles, someone jumped to my assistance, locating the flour, spinach or bouillon cubes as necessary. Pros: affordable produce, good customer service. Cons: anti-high street capitalist mediocrity with garish strip lighting. Ok, you can now say it: "Mum's gone to Iceland."

I think it's MARVELLOUS that Tesco®, in Borehamwood, is GIVING AWAY some of their Sunday trading…read morebusiness to Lidl®, Aldi®, B&M®, Farm Foods® and Morrisons®, etc. For example, their new rule TODAY (Sunday 21st Sept 2025), is that NO trolleys, not even the shallow ones, are allowed in the Store after 3:25pm, so the elderly, infirm, or people with weak legs or, like me, have a bad back, who rely on them for support, have been generously redirected to use the main rival local supermarket businesses instead. Tesco® clearly DO NOT need all THAT money OR the peoples' loyal custom, so "they" are helping the OTHER stores in the town by giving away a fair amount of business trading. And a BIG plus; I spent barely a third of what my similar shopping normally costs in Tesco®, so that has instantly CHANGED my shopping habits, with a huge win for my savings. I imagine it has helped ALL the other customers who walked away today, equally shocked and disgusted with their betrayed loyalty to a store that shows CONTEMPT and DISREGARD to the shoppers that helped establish its business.

I had not been in a UK supermarket for 14 years and I have to say they have changed. It reminded me of a french hypermarket, very plain and boring inside with just shelves of food. What happened to the well presented nicely displayed merchandise. I guess times have changed and Tescos is too busy with volume to warrant spending the time on presentation and repair. Cheap goods placed on shelves. Thats what you will find here. Confusing one way car park, and dont forget your pound coins for the trolleys! Still there's always Morrisons!
