Although this location is a little of a trek for me it is completely worth it. Wildly surprised…read morebut pleasantly relieved - I mean, where else can I buy good quality udon, kim chee, noodle mixes, frozen dumplings, super thin sliced beef/pork for hotpot and fresh shiitake for a good price? I know Japan Centre has similar quality but the price point is not always right. Chinatown is good for some things (fresh veggies, fresh rice noodle rolls, ramen, etc.) but it's hard to beat the selection at H-Mart. There is good lighting and sufficient aisle space so carts going in opposite directions don't have to awkwardly back out of the aisle so the opposing cart can go first (kind of like the naughty London roads!) - in most grocery stores in Chinatown, you are elbow to elbow with someone else trying to get a damn jar of Hoisin sauce in your overflowing basket. Customer service is lacking, especially when something is out of stock and no one in the store seems to know what is going on or when they will get more. Aside from the cashiers, most people working the floor do not speak English very well. The employees are mainly Korean and Chinese. However, most items are translated to English on labels and signage. I will continue to shop here for quality groceries and I hope they open more locations so that it is easily assessable to more people in London.

Overall, I believe that they've delivered on that promise. This Wimbledon store is a good size but can't compete on floorspace with the giant Sainsburys Savacentre or the Tesco Extra store nearby. However, it's a good size for a town centre supermarket. They have a nice selection of food counters where you can buy and eat at the tables provided. Alternatively you can take home a ready made meal such as fresh pizza to be cooked at home. I like their fish counter very much and I tend to find more interesting fish and seafood here than at their competitors. I've bought fresh oysters, octopus and sushi grade fish here. They will scale and prepare any of the fresh fish for you. Similarly the butchers seem to know what they're talking about. The rest of the store is quite generic. One trick I feel they're missing is a loyalty scheme like Tesco's Clubcard

It hasn't changed much in the years that it's been part of the local shopping scene although the cafe has gone to make way for a plant department. There always seem to be queues at the checkouts although the store is generally well-staffed. This may be testament to its good value. I believe that it now stays open until 11pm on weekdays and, further to Yee Gan's review, there is a loyalty/price comparison card available.

They have a far bigger range of goods too, salads, sandwiches and soups for lunch, chilled and prepared food, jams, preserves, cheeses, hams, homemade cakes and chocolates, corkscrews and linen for the table. Last time I was in there they were playing some jolly, very Christmassy and very twee music (it was November but I bet they started playing it on the first cold day in August) and the whole place smelt amazing. I managed to buy a nice chickpea salad but forgot to enquire as to the name of the band playing in the background. I was thinking maybe for my grandmother or maybe if I was having a very bad day...

They are also a little more upmarket than your typical grocery store. There's lots of organic produce, lots of gourmet foods and a wide selection of wines. The prices you pay reflect the quality of the products and produce you're buying but it is great and I love it. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's definitely better than heading to your local Tescos.

Perhaps surprisingly there aren't many other supermarkets, in close proximity, that provide such extended trading hours so I've occasionally found myself here, late in the evening, when I need a few items. The entrance is not the most alluring, or welcoming, as the main access route is via the large, covered car park. As you approach the store entrance there are a couple of handy cash point machines and a satellite McDonald's (not open 24 hours). Before arriving at the food and drink aisles, you'll discover a decent sized George section with a fair choice for men, women and children - although not all the lines are stocked here. If you're 'tempted' into trying-on any items, be aware that the fitting rooms close at around 10pm. Whenever I've visited late in the evening, it's a little like an obstacle course as it coincides with shelf-stocking time and that appears to take precedence over customer service. Few tills are staffed at these times, so both factors are worth bearing in mind - if you're not in a patient or tolerant mood! That said, there's plenty of choice in most areas and there are sometimes some surprisingly appealing or useful bargains in the homeware section.
