Wildly surprised…read morebut pleasantly relieved - I mean, where else can I buy good quality udon, kim chee, noodle mixes, frozen dumplings, super thin sliced beef/pork for hotpot and fresh shiitake for a good price? I know Japan Centre has similar quality but the price point is not always right. Chinatown is good for some things (fresh veggies, fresh rice noodle rolls, ramen, etc.) but it's hard to beat the selection at H-Mart. There is good lighting and sufficient aisle space so carts going in opposite directions don't have to awkwardly back out of the aisle so the opposing cart can go first (kind of like the naughty London roads!) - in most grocery stores in Chinatown, you are elbow to elbow with someone else trying to get a damn jar of Hoisin sauce in your overflowing basket. Customer service is lacking, especially when something is out of stock and no one in the store seems to know what is going on or when they will get more. Aside from the cashiers, most people working the floor do not speak English very well. The employees are mainly Korean and Chinese. However, most items are translated to English on labels and signage. I will continue to shop here for quality groceries and I hope they open more locations so that it is easily assessable to more people in London.

Opened in the late 1980s as the biggest store in the UK, this shop has increased in size twice before last year adding a 2nd floor and turning parts of its car park multi story. It appears the only way is up. So what is in here? EVERYTHING. I mean it is intended to stop you from buying anything else elsewhere. It has a parhacamy, petrol station, opticians, car wash, photo processing, car wash, clothing, cafe, electrials, Music and video, stationary, toys, butchers, bakers, fishmongers, candlestickmakers and a range of Carribean, Polish, Kosher, Hahal and Orenital foods. OK, I lied about the candlestick makers, but they do sell candles, matches, lighters, candlestick holders, lightbulbs and anything else to put the candlestick maker out of business. It is open 8am Monday - 10pm Saturday without a break and 10am-4pm on a Sunday, but they dont need your money. £1 in every £8 in the UK is spent at Tesco, it is all becoming a bit of a Tescopoly.

Overall, I believe that they've delivered on that promise. This Wimbledon store is a good size but can't compete on floorspace with the giant Sainsburys Savacentre or the Tesco Extra store nearby. However, it's a good size for a town centre supermarket. They have a nice selection of food counters where you can buy and eat at the tables provided. Alternatively you can take home a ready made meal such as fresh pizza to be cooked at home. I like their fish counter very much and I tend to find more interesting fish and seafood here than at their competitors. I've bought fresh oysters, octopus and sushi grade fish here. They will scale and prepare any of the fresh fish for you. Similarly the butchers seem to know what they're talking about. The rest of the store is quite generic. One trick I feel they're missing is a loyalty scheme like Tesco's Clubcard

It hasn't changed much in the years that it's been part of the local shopping scene although the cafe has gone to make way for a plant department. There always seem to be queues at the checkouts although the store is generally well-staffed. This may be testament to its good value. I believe that it now stays open until 11pm on weekdays and, further to Yee Gan's review, there is a loyalty/price comparison card available.

Their new chocolate would be next on my list but it is very expensive for a bar of chocolate. I went to pick up two for my niece and nephew and it would have been over £5 for two tiny portions. We also recently had their bone-in chicken kievs and they were not good. Way too salty and honestly a bit inedible. I'm not sure if it was a one off but I would never buy them again.

The entrance is situated just inside the Centre Court shopping centre. Although the store also sells some stationery items, Greetings cards and cut flowers, this is really just a food store. But they have a very wide selection of their own products, such as ready meals and fresh produce, and at this store especially, a very good selection of bread. (I'm in love with their wholemeal Irish soda bread.) There is also a decent selection of wine. The store has a good number of self-service checkouts, so there are rarely any queues.

They are also a little more upmarket than your typical grocery store. There's lots of organic produce, lots of gourmet foods and a wide selection of wines. The prices you pay reflect the quality of the products and produce you're buying but it is great and I love it. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's definitely better than heading to your local Tescos.

If you are looking to buy wholesale goods (Costco style yeah!), come here. It was fun to read the prices for everything in the cart - they give you the price for one unit of the product as well as the price for a whole BOX of the product you are looking at. I come here to stock up on aloe vera juices (the lychee one to be exact), the wholesale price knocks it down to a good value per unit if you purchase a box of aloe vera juices. The lighting, cleanliness and aisle space is excellent. There is no fishy smell the moment you walk in, like some other Asian grocery stores *cough cough* Chinatown *cough*. They also have a bakery next door that I haven't been to but would like to go next time I stop by for more tofu and aloe vera juices. But the bakery goods sold in the grocery store seems to be from the bakery next door - there wasn't much of a selection left by evening (when I was there). I did buy some Korean fried chicken with yummy sauce in their deli that was already pre-packaged and a box of stir fried glass noodles. Both were tasty and enough for two people. Will come again.

I think my Korean nose knows how to find its roots. It's a bit tucked away and you can almost easily drive past it but look out for it after the B&Q. There is plenty of parking spots but if you're like me, I sometimes take the 265 bus from Putney or walk around from the rail station. I can't compare this Korean shop to like H-Mart or any of the others back in Flushing but man, this is almost as good as it gets in London. Most of the time I usually go to Seoul Plaza right by the station for my quick fix but go here when I need to do heavy duty shopping - 10kg of rice, etc. They stock pretty much everything in your Asian heart's desire from veggies to ready made food as well as plenty of frozen goods. They also have Chinese, Thai and an Indian section so it can be a real one stop shop. Remember to sign up for the membership. It's free and you earn points like a Nectar Card and get vouchers for your next purchase. You can also use it at the smaller satellite shops at Seoul Plaza.

You get groceries and other home goods. I might be a self-proclaimed anglophile but wasn't expecting this nice place. Walking down the aisles of goodies made me want one back home. As a result they have a massive car park which is very useful for those that drive and I personally have never had a problem finding a space there. The store itself is also huge and so a great place to do your weekly shop as you are more likely to find what you want. As well as that they have another section that sells clothes, toys and even electronic equipment. Always be sure to have a look around there while doing your food shop as there are sometimes some bargains to be had such as the recent 25% off its clothing range or the half price toy sale that was on a few weeks back.
